darkjak Posted March 25, 2012 Author Posted March 25, 2012 Love the Vega one. But where the f**k is Ashley?
Magnus Posted March 25, 2012 Posted March 25, 2012 Patrick Weekes - writer of Tali, Mordin, Blasto and a bunch of other characters and missions - has allegedly spoken out against the ending. I say "allegedly", because the original post has been deleted and BioWare claims that Weekes didn't write it. But then they would say that. And if they asked him about it, he'd have no reason to tell them he wrote it. Well, make of it what you will. It makes more sense than the indoctrination theory, anyway. I have nothing to do with the ending [...] No other writer did, either, except for our lead. This was entirely the work of our lead and Casey himself, sitting in a room and going through draft after draft. And honestly, it kind of shows. Every other mission in the game had to be held up to the rest of the writing team, and the writing team then picked it apart and made suggestions and pointed out the parts that made no sense. This mission? Casey and our lead deciding that they didn't need to be peer-reviewe.d And again, it shows. Or if you prefer something that has been confirmed true but isn't related to the ending at all, here's a list of everything Patrick Weekes wrote in the game. Maybe I'm the only one who finds things like that interesting, though.

Magnus Posted March 25, 2012 Posted March 25, 2012 Based on the comic books, I'm not convinced Mac Walters is a very good writer. No idea about Casey Hudson. Even if he is/they are, though, sometimes good writers write bad things. Especially if they're in a situation where they're alone and no one else is around to give them feedback. Even the best writers need editors. Anyway, maybe it's not true.
Aimless Posted March 25, 2012 Posted March 25, 2012 Even if it was just the two of them they're not stupid. Surely they realised how much was wrong with it? Have you and your friends never had a terrible idea but ended up egging each other on regardless? I'd guess Hudson and Walters were both really enthusiastic about the 'speculation' such a 'memorable' ending would generate, and without that outside perspective to bring them down to Earth they simply couldn't see their patent lack of judgement. That doesn't make them terrible people, or even bad writers necessarily, but hopefully the backlash will ensure they don't make the same mistake twice. (Although a lot of people hated the ending to DA2, which Mac Walters also wrote, so...)
Magnus Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 Maybe he's grown accustomed to Nintendo's way of telling time, where "April" means "a few hours before May".
