Retro Studios Having A Crack At Zelda?

Off topic, yes, but I think could be interesting as an off shot of this discussion. How would people take/feel about a Retro + Monolith Soft collaboration on a new IP (or even work together on Zelda with Nintendo)?

Retro have shown a deft hand at nailing gameplay and atmosphere with audition and sound and Monolith Soft know have to handle characterisation and plot. Combine the two and you could get something truly special I feel. Just a thought....

Here's what I say: let Retro make a Zelda for Wii U. Give them no restrictions whatsoever (apart from no blood and gore, obviously). They can use whatever controller they like, focus it around dungeons if they like, or not, it's up to them.

At the same time, let Aonuma develop his Zelda at Nintendo (also for Wii U), and then see which one is better.

Yes, because Nintendi will definitely spunk millions and millions settling a fanboy debate!

An original IP.

Yeah, whenever I read that phrase that Retro is working on "something people want them to do", that's the only thing I can think of. As great as an F-Zero or Starfox by them would be, this is what the people really want, whether they realise it on a concious level or not:heh:

What could Retro Studios bring to Zelda? Only a Lens of Scanning.

I think that Retro would like to do a lot of stuff which Nintendo probably will never do. Retro could make Zelda a bit more story driven and gritty.

Nintendo have a habbit of creating fantastic worlds and then ruin them with silly stuff, like the floating bouncy castle in Twilight Princess. Or having characters tell you to press this or that button to do this or that. I usually get completely immersed in to games, but once stuff like that gets shoved in, my immersion is broken. I hope that Retro Studios will be able to bring Zelda on par with modern AAA titles.

With Skyward Sword, Nintendo have created a really good combat system and a few of the puzles are actually challenging. Now Nintendo need to focus on graphics and storytelling, and perhaps ad even more upgradability to your items.
