I haven’t but have got their first Epic Collection preordered for later this month and I’m debating cancelling it to put the money towards some of these other X books. The first run? Yeah. I think I’ve got and read issues 1-mid 50s. Decent characters are story arcs. Characters like Chamber and M were really interesting and having Emma Frost and Banshee work together to teach them was a pretty cool concept. It was a very different X book compared to the others. More grounded. It’s worth reading Phalanx Covenant before heading into Gen X though. 1

Happenstance Posted July 5, 2021 Posted July 5, 2021 Do you remember which story has Colossus’ death to end the Legacy virus?

I think the last issue of Uncanny I picked up was 380, whereas the Legacy Virus event happened 10 issues later.

It was kind of a relaunch and figured it was a good time to bail as the books had massively dropped in quality by that point.

I wasn’t always a fan of the art but I thought the stories were pretty great. Astonishing X-Men from Whedon after it as well was brilliant.

I agree about the art work. I was t a fan of it or the black suit designs they gave the team. 1
Happenstance Posted July 7, 2021 Posted July 7, 2021 After mentioning Astonishing X-Men earlier this week it really got me in the mood to read it again so I tracked down Whedon’s full run on eBay. I own the first basic trade but it’ll be nice to swap it out for these Ultimate Collections. Finished X-Cutioners Song earlier as well. I enjoyed it. Despite knowing of Stryfe for years I don’t think I’ve read a story of his before.
Happenstance Posted July 10, 2021 Posted July 10, 2021 Ordered vol 2&3 of Onslaught to finish off that story. I wanted to get vol.3 from my usual online comic store as they had the correct details in the listing but for the second time the order failed so I have in and ordered it through Amazon. Different cover and list of comics inside but the correct page amount and isbn so I’m just choosing to believe that they got it confused with the Milestone version. We’ll see tomorrow but if it’s the wrong one then I’ll just send it back.
Happenstance Posted July 11, 2021 Posted July 11, 2021 @Hero-of-Time did you ever read Excalibur? That’s the next Epic Collection series that I haven’t ever read but feel like I should.
Happenstance Posted July 16, 2021 Posted July 16, 2021 Went on a bit of an eBay spree to get some deals: N My comic reading does tend to be almost exclusively super heroes so I figured I would branch out a bit with two of my favourite series.
Happenstance Posted July 31, 2021 Posted July 31, 2021 Joined a uk trade & sale Facebook page so managed to get some good deals on more x-men stuff: So I’ve now moved into Chuck Austen’s run. I might regret getting these but that’s the price of being a completionist!
Happenstance Posted August 2, 2021 Posted August 2, 2021 Another couple of deals. Once again filling in a gap with Nick Spencer’s Amazing Spider-man and then I’ve read some of Jason Aaron’s Thor before and enjoyed it so got the first two volumes of his complete run as they’re now out of print and harder to get.
Happenstance Posted August 2, 2021 Posted August 2, 2021 Didn’t take long for the top shelf to start bending! 1
Happenstance Posted August 28, 2021 Posted August 28, 2021 (edited) Another payday, another load of X-Men purchases to continue filling the gaps. Other than the super rare ones I’m actually starting to do pretty well. Edited August 30, 2021 by Happenstance
Happenstance Posted September 8, 2021 Posted September 8, 2021 Few more for the collection. Mostly deals on ebay and facebook this time. Just need to track down volume 3 of Age of Apocalypse for a good price now.
Happenstance Posted September 23, 2021 Posted September 23, 2021 Nice few vouchers again through TopCashBack so once again adding to the X-Men collection:
Happenstance Posted October 3, 2021 Posted October 3, 2021 Got my customary after payday orders in. In both my main collections (X-Men and Spider-Man) I'm starting to hit the point where its mostly out of print stuff I need now so I should probably end up spending less which will be nice! Only reason there was so many of this load of books was because I got deals on ebay for some of them. Also without @Hero-of-Time this thread is just back to me talking to myself
Happenstance Posted October 18, 2021 Posted October 18, 2021 Comic time again! All eBay deals this time, a couple of which are quite hard to find so I was happy with those.

What do you think of these? Any festive-themed issues/ storylines on your reading list at the mo?

Yeah I quite enjoyed them. Some good mirror universe stories that I think are supposedly still going on so I need to look into that. No festive themed stuff at the moment. I've just been finishing off a few Star Trek actual books then it's back to the X-Men backlog. Still filling in those gaps slowly but surely.
