I want to switch from an Orange pay as you go to an Orange contract for my phone, but am i right in thinking you can't do that without changing your number? That seems really bizarre. I'm not changing my number. Is there any way around it?

You should be able to just upgrade directly, just call Orange and ask.

If its because you want to take advantage of an online deal, they should be able to match that.

You can port over any number from any network, there may just be a few days of having a temporary other number. Orange to orange should be okay but ring up/ask in store. All you need is a PUC code which your network normally supplies you and you then pass onto your new network but same to same I don't know how it works.

So in other words yes it works but I'm not sure of the specifics.

You should be fine, I've had the same mobile number since I was about 14, being on pay as you go until I hit university at 18, just ring Orange, explain and it should be fine.

Also ask for discounts, I mentioned I was a student at the time of my contract and got 5quid knocked off each month. :)

Even changing network should be fine. I was on pay as you go with Orange for about 10 years and all I ever did for that was put the same SIM card into a new phone. I've gone over to Vodafone on contract and they were able to get my number transferred. So on the same network it shouldn't be a problem at all.
