Posted August 30, 2011 Anyone recommend some decent video editing software? A feature I'm particularly hoping to find (if it exists) is something that allows multiple "angles" running simultaneously, where I can sync up various takes so they are running together and then just switch between each one at certain points. Sort of like the multi angle thing on a DVD, but instead of being able to switch whilst playing the video back, I just want to select which one makes it to the final video. Posted August 30, 2011 Yeah just some shit like the industry standard, you know. Nothing really. Particularly given that Apple decided to make the new version of Final Cut shit. If I'm understanding you correctly (you want to be able to look at footage you've shot from different angles and match them up so they're running at the same time then select which ones you want for a final video) then Premiere Pro will be fine. It's a lot more intuitive (IMO) for video editing than After Effects, which is more about the...effects. It can also be used for video editing but the route tends to be 'cut it in PP, manipulate it in AE'. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Posted August 30, 2011 Premiere Pro. It's so easy to use it's a joke. Both my videos were done on it, the Pitch Black one was my first ever attempt at a video, did it a couple days after getting PP and it took me half a day to finish it. Posted August 30, 2011 AE is a bit of a difficult one to get into. Its one of those programmes that you learn better by trying to achieve something specific rather than thinking "I need to learn AE". Posted August 30, 2011 Premier Pro is probably what you're after. Although After Effects can do all that, just a lot more as well. Premier Pro obviously is easier to use as a result. Posted August 30, 2011 Okay yeah I just re-read the original post and you don't really need specialist software for that. For "syncing" up, all you'd need to do is have a visual/audio clue at the beginning of the recording. Say you have four cameras all pointing at the same thing, just make a loud piercing noise or have something like a clock in the scene (that you don't mind being there or have it cropped). Then you have something to sync it, just look at the visual ref or sync up the audio at the start. I'm confused to what's actually being asked to be honest. I'll just be using one camera and using multiple takes to get the different angles. I imagine it's exactly the same process in terms of software though. Posted August 30, 2011 Nah that's a standard thing really. You just align the two videos side by side and can cut it to the precise moment. For example in PP: You just plonk the two videos next to each other on the timeline and then use the tool (the name of which I've forgot) and it opens up a new window in which you tweak the start and end points and then its changed in the timeline.
