LostOverThere Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 For anyone else who may be interested in domains: I've own a few domain names over the past five years and would recommend you avoid GoDaddy. Put simply, they have a Monopoly and don't mind abusing it. While their domain prices may be fine, where they get you is in additional costs such as Private Who-Is (Which I would recommend getting, unless you want the entire world to know your phone number and street address). I haven't been with them for long, but so far, I have been thoroughly impressed with NameCheap.
Ike Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 You can do your own theme. These days it's a million times easier to start with a CMS (such as Wordpress or Joomla). Don't use mambo/Joomla, they are horrible.
Cube Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 Don't use mambo/Joomla, they are horrible. Joomla can be great in the right hands.
Eenuh Posted December 10, 2010 Author Posted December 10, 2010 Joomla can be great in the right hands. I doubt my n00bish hands are the right ones. =P
Wesley Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 I got a domain and hosting for 50 quid a year from GoDaddy. I've yet to upload anything though! But for just a domain I used Express-Hosting UK and got a domain for 7 quid for 2 years.
ohyoume Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 Namecheap are really good. .com domains are about $10 a year and .info are at $2.99. They also give you free 'whois' which helps to keep your name and address private, if that is what you want. For hosting hostgator are excellent as the price is really cheap and the customer service support is really good.
Charlie Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 Don't use mambo/Joomla, they are horrible. Rubbish. Joomla is one the best and most customisable CMS' out there. It's a fantastic piece of kit that a lot of large developers work with full time because of its capabilities.
