Hollywood and Broadway... Silly names or Secret CODE!!!

It has always bugged me...

Nintendo codenaming their CPU n GPU... its like... why bother if its a souped up Gamecube? Why even CAUSE the buzz that they do by giving them SPECIAL names.

The CELL processor is supposed to be AMAZING! The name is fairly well known now... and so is the Broadway and Hollywood. But we no nothing about the last two, and when we do will it BE that great???

You see, a simple part of my brain says "There MUST be something special about this, a clues in the names, yada yada" and I kind of hope there is, cause I like suprises but then again I am not really EXPECTING anything HUGE to come up...

What do you guys think?

IS there something big waiting to be revealed? Is there a clue in the names? Or is this just a case of souped up Cube chips with silly names???

The codenames were assigned by the manufacturers such as "ATI" I believe, but im not entirely sure.

"Hollywood" movies is kind of a larger scale version of "broadway" productions, hehe, i dunno...

Hollywood (graphics chip)= Hollywood itself is a place of illusion, Movies aren't made with 30,000 people in the football stands or futuristic cities with 1000,s of people walking around. Hollywood always used technology to acheive shortcuts to a realistic outcome. Cube mapping etc. can make the Rev graphics amazing with low specs. This chip's specialty may be a chip comprised of many different 3d mapping techniques.

Broadway (CPU Chip)= Broadway itself is a place of small numbers pretending to be large scale extravaganzas. A cast of 30 people can make a play seem as if they are in a city of millions. This chip for the cpu may be sought of like amd athlon processors or intel celerons, they seem smaller when compared to pentiums but they are just as efficient if not better. I think the chip is a small chip thats not so powerful. Its only powerful enough to handle the Hollywood chip.

If you look at broadways specs you would think it sucks but its only purpose is to keep the hollywood graphics chip running perfect. This keeps it cheap and the hollywood chip is the magic of revolution. Low specs, cheap prices and next gen results.

I think it's a hint that they are working with the movie industry. Several directors stated that the Revo will feature stereoscopic 3D what will be introduced in cinemas in 2007.

I've got to agree, building up hopes and dreams to a fantastical impossible level is the only way to go really.

(I don't agree at all, how many times do Nintendo fans need to do this before they realise they're wasting their time?).

It fills the time. i hope there is some meaning behind it. they are great and will change our lives forever. :santa:

Didnt Iwata confirm Broadway because its the home of Live Entertainment (makes sense with the Baton Controller) and Hollywood because its the home of movie making? or something similar to that?

Yeah, Iwata did elaborate on the names and it was something to do with what you said but I've forgotten what he actually said. :heh:

I like your thinking. It has a very Nintendo thinking behind it, especially as Iwata's reasons he quoted seemed a little lame. I think he had to change his mind about what he was going to say at the last minute because Sony didn't show enought at E3.

It makes perfect sense not to be very CPU heavy as the machine is menat to be a games machine. Specialised (rather than generalised - Cell *cough*) kit is much more economical in evey sense.

Wow...that is really freakishly relevant to this idea of displacement mapping etc :bouncy:

Don't they always codename hardware components? The Cube's CPU was is known as "Gekko"(So tiny) while the GPU is known as "Flipper", so I never really thought anything of Hollywood and Broadway...
