Dannyboy-the-Dane Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 I couldn't really get into Californication cause of all the sex. Sometimes it felt like that's all it was about, a nice way for David Duchovny to show that he really is a sex addict. =P I always wondered whether it was the show that caused his addiction.
Ashley Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 I'd imagine it was the legion of female fans willing to sleep with him that caused it. Its how Dan Dare got started on his downward spiral.
Aimless Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 The show is about sex — the clue's in the name — but it's not porn. It explores the role of sex in society and relationships, plus all the reactions and complications surrounding it, and pushes things to the point of ridiculousness; that's just part of the humour of it. The sex is a catalyst. I certainly wouldn't classify myself as a salacious person, but that aspect doesn't get in the way of my enjoyment of the show. Likewise I've no interest in murdering people but that doesn't stop me from enjoying Dexter or untold police procedurals. Being interested in, and gaining enjoyment from, a fictional portrayal of something shouldn't be seen as real-world advocacy of such things, it's just a vicarious exploration of situations, ideas and personalities.
jayseven Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 You should be more specific about what kind of show you want to watch, but effectively all teh answers have been given. If you're after a supernatural drama than read JonSt's and Happenstance's posts. Also, we're still trying to encourage you to not make massive engulfing threads, so if you want to know what's out later in the year, or ask if anyone's watched buffy, then use teh relevant threads/make a new one. yes, I am aware I am being an arse.
Caris Posted August 10, 2010 Author Posted August 10, 2010 Stealing from Ashleys thread on the same page? New low Dante, new low.
