The TV licence doesn't seem like a rip off to me at all. I pay £11 a month and I watch a few hours of TV a day and regularly use the iPlayer and 4oD, it seems like a bargain to me.

Although it is a shame that BBC 6Music and the Asian Network could be closed down the BBC are planning to invest heavily in new comedy for BBC Two citing the need for 'exiciting riskier comedy' from 'new and unique perspectives', which is only a good thing as BBC Comedy has been in dire straits for years.

Like i say i have no issue paying for it. But why should i be expected to have two licences? I dont need more than one driving licence to drive more than one car.

I have no evidence and i cant be arsed to reaserch it onlie but im pritty sure a small part goes to at least channel 4. I know i was socked but it was on TV a bit ago.

I think ITV pay a bit toward Channel 4, not BBC. I can't remember exactly and I can't be bothered to dig out my books about the history of British television :p

The licence fee represents approximately 75% of the BBC's income with most of the rest coming from the sale of its programming overseas and other business allied to broadcasting such as publishing.[45] The UK's second public broadcaster, Channel 4, which is funded by advertising did however get funding for digital switch-over paid for from the licence fee.[46]

Some of S4C's programmes such as Pobol y Cwm and Newyddion, are made by BBC Wales and provided free of charge to S4C, meaning they are paid for by the licence fee. It also receives a fixed annual grant from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport with the remainder of revenue being generated from advertising revenue.

From the pedia of wiki.

Few minutes on google found me that Channel 4 gets part of its funding from S4C which is partly funded from advertising and partly from the TV license.

I'd agree the enforcement of the TV license is a bit protection racket-esque and some of the rules are bullshit (for example the rule that seperate rooms in a university house need a seperate license, despite being in the same building). However I still stand by it being excellent value when compared against say Sky.

If PC monitors were available in the same size as TVs, I'd ditch the TV and get one and refuse to pay the TV licence (when I move out, obviously). I rarely watch TV nowerdays (apart from using Dave as background noise).

I think its technically a room that has its own lock, so obviously uni places get raped in that regards.

You still need to pay if you watch through a monitor :p

I mean I wouldn't watch TV at all. Just DVDs and games (which is pretty much all my TV gets used for anyway).
