flameboy Posted September 20, 2009 Author Posted September 20, 2009 Got this yesterday after watching a few video reviews. After the crap previous few games, this one is actually surprisingly good. Handlings still a bit of a chore, but nowhere near as bad as previous NFS. Don't suppose you got it on PS3? Anyway I'm really enjoying it, the cockpit view is immense and gives such a great sense of speed, who cares if its an exaggerated sense of speed thanks to the fish eye view and motion blur, at the end of the day I'm playing a racing game where I want to feel like I am driving the awesome cars, I don't wanna feel like I'm stuck in traffic pottering around Harrogate in my shitty gold Astra...

Nope he got it on 360, he doesnt really like the PS3 pad
Goafer Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 Yup, what he said. I don't like the PS3 pad, especially for racing games.
Jimbob Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 I picked this up on Friday, damn good game i believe. Got the extras with it including the Elite races and a BMW. I love its realism, i can best describe it as Forza meets PGR in terms of gameplay/control. If anyone fancies a few races, let us know.

I think it benefits though from its Precision vs Aggression system over PGR's kudos system where high end progression relies on racing how the developers want you to race. Now you can do what you like with regards to tactics...go for the clean technical race or go for the dirty race. Loving online as well...played 6/7 races and won them all...love being aggressive then people get annoyed try to delivery some payback and come worse off...another race was in I started second on the grid and the 1st place person went and turned right straight to take me out, I just zoomed through and they missed me but ended up getting into a scrap with the other 2 drivers leaving me to pull away, I won the race by some 20 seconds whilst they were all within a second of each other...

That was a very quick description i came up with, but it makes more sence the more i play it. I was doing the Nurburing with a Verion (a challenge task in career). I found it challenging just to get a clean lap because the other computer drivers were dirty buggers.
Goafer Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 (edited) I'm loving this game more and more. Although the money does fly in once you get to the later races. My works tuned Elise (Pink is ace): Drift Slag BMW: Ye Olde Skyline (Works tuned): Evil Black Lambo Mucielago (Works tuned: Zonda (can't be modified, what a con): Scirocco (Works tuned): Edited September 22, 2009 by Goafer

Goafer Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 Some advice: If you have the Elise and fancy upgrading to the Exige, don't. The Elise is a lot better when fully tuned, despite the Exige being a tier above it. Mainly due to the Elise being works tunable and the Exige isn't. I made that mistake. Luckily I didn't sell the Elise.

I got myself 4 cars at the moment, these are Renault Megane RS Ford Shelby GT500 Mitsibishi Evolution X Dodge Viper SRT10 I'm saving up for a Tier 4 car at this moment in time, which is a Veyron The Renault is only upgraded to Tier 1/2. The others can go up to Tier 3/4. I've got Tier 4 unlocked, but am only 1/4 way through Tier 2 so money can be saved up to improve the other cars. Quick question, does anyone know about these "Works Upgrade" packs available on cars marked with a "W"??. Edited September 22, 2009 by Jimbob

It basically turned my Elise from a tier 2 car into something roughly between tier 3 and 4. I can win tier 3 races in my Works tuned old style Skyline (Tier 1) and I'd consider that to be one of the worst cars in the game in terms of stats. Works tuning is expensive though and you have to have fitted all the other modifications first, but it's worth it. My works tuned Murcielago (tier 3 IIRC) has about the same stats as the best Zonda (Best car in tier 4). Edited September 22, 2009 by Goafer

Don't get why you have to put a body-kit on it though Edit: Can you take a works-tuned Tier 2 car and go through Tier 2 with it?? Edited September 23, 2009 by Jimbob
Domstercool Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 Yes I think you can. I used a works tuned Shelby GT500 for the American racers in Tier 2
Goafer Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 Works tuned cars can still remain in their tier. It makes the game a bit easy though since they are so much better than the non works tuned cars in the same tier.
Owen Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 So is this more arcadey? Cause to be honest i prefer just to get in a car..race really fast in that cockpit view and view immense crashes which are happening around me, or is it like Forza/PGR/Gran Turismo which is more realistic? Which isn't a bad thing as i enjoyed two out of those 3....

You can play it as either take all the driving assists off and it a sim add all of them and its as arcadey and simple as they come, use a couple of them such as traction control and its a nice mixture of the 2.
Will Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 My works tuned Elise (Pink is ace): I like it! Definitely liking the look of this game more and more, hoping I can find it for a good price sooner rather than later.
Jimbob Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 I bought myself a Aston Martin DB9 (part-tuned), a Lotus Elise (this is 3/4 tuned) and a Bugatti Veyron last night. Still enjoying this title very much. I have been working on a few Quick Races to level-up my profile and earn some big bucks before doing Career mode, i get 40K per race now.

The crashes sound stomach churningly bad, mainly due to the sound the driver makes when you hit something and the way the image goes black and white/blurry depending on the level of impact. And the sense of speed from the cockpit view is unmatched IMO. If you get it and don't like it, get a better car. I started off with the old Skyline and didn't enjoy the game at all. When I upgraded to the Elise I enjoyed the game much more. There is a lot of variation between the cars.

The first car i bought was the Renault Megane (now Works Converted). It was a good car, but i enjoyed the game more when i bought a GT500. I also found an easy way to make money is to do Quick Races on all the tracks, i can make an easy 40K per race i do (it is also a great way to level up your profile). Edit: Technology is wonderful: Uploading a photo from the console to nfs.com and it appears, bloomin marvellous Here are a few pictures of my fully work converted cars. Renault Megane RS (Works Converted) Ford Shelby GT500 (Works Converted) BMW M3 E46 (Works Converted) I shall post a picture of my Works Converted Dodge Viper SRT10 which can go faster (just about) than a Bugatti Veyron And here we are Edited September 25, 2009 by Jimbob
Choze Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 Good game got into it last night. Pc demO sucked. I like! Definately the best nfs in a while even if it's very different. Trying to get the gtr vspec. Gonna save up.
Goafer Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 I'm seriously liking this game. I normally only use in car views for the novelty factor, but in this it works well. I still have to use the outside car view for drifting, but other than that it's strictly in car. I still use my works converted Elise more than any other car. The Murcielago is just too fast and twitchy. I'll probably use the Zonda more when I start doing races that it can actually enter. Unlocked 2 more garage slots so I filled them straight away with a Ford Escort and Toyota AE86 Corolla. I like collecting the "crappier" cars. The AE86 drifts quite well, although I still prefer my drift slag BMW.

Goafer Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 Unless you mean the classic Skline, I don't know. I haven't tried any of the other Nissans yet (except the ones you get to use in events with a set car, but I don't remember those). I imagine it will be good though, Nissans tend to be in most games.

Well i mean the GTR R35 spec V specifically: I'll get it anyway and the Elise! Tip: on vs races just knock the other car out :p
