flameboy Posted September 22, 2009 Author Posted September 22, 2009 I'm loving this game more and more. Although the money does fly in once you get to the later races. My Elise: Pink is ace. Nice! I'm only actually on Tier 2 not played it since Sunday...
Goafer Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 Some advice: If you have the Elise and fancy upgrading to the Exige, don't. The Elise is a lot better when fully tuned, despite the Exige being a tier above it. Mainly due to the Elise being works tunable and the Exige isn't. I made that mistake. Luckily I didn't sell the Elise.

I got myself 4 cars at the moment, these are Renault Megane RS Ford Shelby GT500 Mitsibishi Evolution X Dodge Viper SRT10 I'm saving up for a Tier 4 car at this moment in time, which is a Veyron The Renault is only upgraded to Tier 1/2. The others can go up to Tier 3/4. I've got Tier 4 unlocked, but am only 1/4 way through Tier 2 so money can be saved up to improve the other cars. Quick question, does anyone know about these "Works Upgrade" packs available on cars marked with a "W"??. Edited September 22, 2009 by Jimbob

It basically turned my Elise from a tier 2 car into something roughly between tier 3 and 4. I can win tier 3 races in my Works tuned old style Skyline (Tier 1) and I'd consider that to be one of the worst cars in the game in terms of stats. Works tuning is expensive though and you have to have fitted all the other modifications first, but it's worth it. My works tuned Murcielago (tier 3 IIRC) has about the same stats as the best Zonda (Best car in tier 4). Edited September 22, 2009 by Goafer

Domstercool Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 Yes I think you can. I used a works tuned Shelby GT500 for the American racers in Tier 2
Goafer Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 Works tuned cars can still remain in their tier. It makes the game a bit easy though since they are so much better than the non works tuned cars in the same tier.
Owen Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 So is this more arcadey? Cause to be honest i prefer just to get in a car..race really fast in that cockpit view and view immense crashes which are happening around me, or is it like Forza/PGR/Gran Turismo which is more realistic? Which isn't a bad thing as i enjoyed two out of those 3....

You can play it as either take all the driving assists off and it a sim add all of them and its as arcadey and simple as they come, use a couple of them such as traction control and its a nice mixture of the 2.
Will Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 My works tuned Elise (Pink is ace): I like it! Definitely liking the look of this game more and more, hoping I can find it for a good price sooner rather than later.
Jimbob Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 I bought myself a Aston Martin DB9 (part-tuned), a Lotus Elise (this is 3/4 tuned) and a Bugatti Veyron last night. Still enjoying this title very much. I have been working on a few Quick Races to level-up my profile and earn some big bucks before doing Career mode, i get 40K per race now.

The crashes sound stomach churningly bad, mainly due to the sound the driver makes when you hit something and the way the image goes black and white/blurry depending on the level of impact. And the sense of speed from the cockpit view is unmatched IMO. If you get it and don't like it, get a better car. I started off with the old Skyline and didn't enjoy the game at all. When I upgraded to the Elise I enjoyed the game much more. There is a lot of variation between the cars.

The first car i bought was the Renault Megane (now Works Converted). It was a good car, but i enjoyed the game more when i bought a GT500. I also found an easy way to make money is to do Quick Races on all the tracks, i can make an easy 40K per race i do (it is also a great way to level up your profile). Edit: Technology is wonderful: Uploading a photo from the console to nfs.com and it appears, bloomin marvellous Here are a few pictures of my fully work converted cars. Renault Megane RS (Works Converted) Ford Shelby GT500 (Works Converted) BMW M3 E46 (Works Converted) I shall post a picture of my Works Converted Dodge Viper SRT10 which can go faster (just about) than a Bugatti Veyron And here we are Edited September 25, 2009 by Jimbob
Goafer Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 I'm seriously liking this game. I normally only use in car views for the novelty factor, but in this it works well. I still have to use the outside car view for drifting, but other than that it's strictly in car. I still use my works converted Elise more than any other car. The Murcielago is just too fast and twitchy. I'll probably use the Zonda more when I start doing races that it can actually enter. Unlocked 2 more garage slots so I filled them straight away with a Ford Escort and Toyota AE86 Corolla. I like collecting the "crappier" cars. The AE86 drifts quite well, although I still prefer my drift slag BMW.
Goafer Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 Unless you mean the classic Skline, I don't know. I haven't tried any of the other Nissans yet (except the ones you get to use in events with a set car, but I don't remember those). I imagine it will be good though, Nissans tend to be in most games.
flameboy Posted September 27, 2009 Author Posted September 27, 2009 NFS: Shift crashing on Xbox 360, tries to access PSN!? This is absolutely hilarious. A ridiculous and peculiar glitch in EA's new racing title, Need for Speed: Shift, has allegedly been unearthed, and it's amazing. The title supposedly contains a game-breaking error in which the Xbox 360 version crashes while attempting to connect to the PlayStation Store. You have read that correctly, a 360 game is trying to connect to PSN. This is just one of many bugs reported to have shipped with Shift. According to reports, the poor game is riddled with problems. The blogger who discovered the PSN connection error describes Shift as "the most bug-ridden piece of code I have witnessed in recent times." On the one hand, I feel sorry for the developers over what is an incredibly embarrassing cock-up. On the other, I can't stop sniggering at such an amazing failure. I don't think I've ever heard of a game trying to use one console to connect to a rival network, and I am itching to find out how such a disastrous mistake could have happened. Expect patches to be coming out for this thing very, very soon.
Jimbob Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 That's nothing lol. That's nothing lol. The Gameplay itself is riddled with bugs and the design smacks of being really rushed. I suppose this fits all of EA's problems to be honest.
Jimbob Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 Yeah i am going to earn some easy trophies and tie it all up. Quite clearly the people really praising this game strongly havent played through much. In the early stages the game is fine but later you get lots of dumb issues. I'm onto Tier 3 at the moment. All i'm intending on doing really is to beat the game and reach level 50 (i'm at 35 now, not long to go i don't think)
Goafer Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 Best way to get to level 50 is to just do drifting on quick race. Drift on one of the tracks where you can do laps and set the laps high (I go for 5 for Tokyo or 10 for the other 2). I can go up 2 or 3 levels per race.

I just discovered that, thanks for the heads-up on this. 6 laps should be enough if i do the drift challenge 3 times on Tokyo.
flameboy Posted October 1, 2009 Author Posted October 1, 2009 I've almost unlocked Tier 4 yet havn't even started Tier 3 which is a bit mental...working my way through the USA, JAPAN and EUROPEAN Series first... I officially hate the drift events...just can't get to grips with them, always been fairly decent at them in past games but not anymore...
Goafer Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 I struggled to drift at first, but now I seem competent. Best way is to get a semi decent car (I picked tier 2), get the handling and possibly brakes stats as high as possible and ignore the other stats. A slow moving, good handling car seems to work best for me. In terms of technique: Use less throttle than you think you'd need. The higher the cars acceleration stat, the less throttle you need to drift it. That's why I keep my drift cars acceleration stat low. I keep it on about half throttle until I want to drift, then give it 3 quarters to full depending on the corner. I rarely use the brakes or handbrake, just floor it to get it sideways, which slows me down enough. I think I can actually do a whole clean lap of Tokyo without braking/handbraking. Starting slow helps too. Do slow drifts, then build the speed up as you get better.
Jimbob Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 Tokyo is a great place to get good drifts. Best car i've used to drift is a BMW 35 (the ruby red one). It's a Tier 1 car, gives excellent Drift without tuning. 6 laps on the Tokyo track nets me about 15,000 minimum Profile Points. 15 x 3= 45,000 per Drift Challenge. I tend to use more power into the corners, a bit like Goafer. I've got to Level 50, went from 35 to 50 within 2 hours.
