Daft Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 http://www.rockstargames.com/agent/ The teaser site is up so hopefully this means we'll get some info soon. Eurogamer: How does Agent compare to the GTA series? Ben Feder: It's a completely different storyline, there is completely different character development. It's a game about espionage, set in the 1970s. GTA is obviously more about an urban experience, a typically rags to riches experience. Very, very different storylines, very different character development. It's going to be very fresh for gamers. Officially, Take-Two says that "Agent takes players on a paranoid journey into the world of counter-intelligence, espionage and political assassinations during the height of the Cold War at the end of the 1970s." It sounds promising. I'm hoping for a game maybe similar to the film Spy Games. Any ideas on how Rockstar could impress you with this game? I'm thinking it is a sandbox game but spread across more than one city. It would be great if there were three locations, for example, and what you do in each location effects what happens in the other two, and again in the overall story. Although I hated the socialising aspect of GTAIV, I'd love it if you had to find informants and get them to talk through blackmail (no just threatening to kill them but maybe offering to smuggle their family from East to West Berlin, or something). Then when you meet with them you'd have to do it without being discovered. Maybe another possible idea, with the three locations, is that you set up a single player game linked with two other players, each in their respective city. Then you have to deal with the fallout of their actions. It wouldn't necessarily be co-op, but each player would be part of the story. What's everyone else's thoughts?
dwarf Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 Yeah I read that on IGN but it just sounds like it's going to be GTA but set a bit further back. Unless they aren't allowed to say anything about the game style it seems as if it will run in a similar vein to the shooting and driving in their other games but the originality is in the story-line this time. Espionage? Hmmm.
MATtheHAT Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 An MMO style espionage action in a similar vien to The Agency would certainly grab my interest.
dwarf Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 I don't know what to think of The Agency, it seems like they've put loads of attention on the community and points based stuff so the gameplay side may suffer. Looks similar to TF2 style-wise.
Dan_Dare Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 Jesus Fuck Rockstar to take on Le Carré? Lord above, something celestial conspires to force my hand at buying a ps3. I have simply no choice in the matter.
Daft Posted September 5, 2009 Author Posted September 5, 2009 We appreciate the enthusiasm of PlayStation 3 owners and believe us, we understand where you're coming from. That's why we are working hard on a lineup of PlayStation 3 releases for 2010 that we know you will be very excited to play - including Red Dead Redemption, Max Payne 3, and the PlayStation 3 exclusive AGENT, which is a brand-new title from Rockstar North, the creators of the Grand Theft Auto series. Plus there's more yet to be announced... Thanks again for your patience and please stay with us! http://www.rockstargames.com/news/2009/09/04/511/your_questions_answered_episodes_from_liberty_city_vs._the_ballad_of_gay_tony 2010 release? I wonder when we'll hear more.
LegoMan1031 Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 Sounds promising. Would be nice to get something different than the standard GTA type formula. Heres hoping!!!
Aimless Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 It might be worth remembering that both Max Payne 3 and Red Dead Redemption were originally scheduled for an '09 release. Obviously I've no idea how far along Agent is as no one's seen anything about it, bar the logo, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it 'slip' into 2011.
Daft Posted September 6, 2009 Author Posted September 6, 2009 I didn't know that about Max Payne and RDD. I think we've known about Agent for longer so fingers crossed this comes as next years big Xmas release.
S.C.G Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 Jesus FuckRockstar to take on Le Carré? Lord above, something celestial conspires to force my hand at buying a ps3. I have simply no choice in the matter. It'll most likely come to 360 as well though? GTA did so people will be expecting this to as well I'd imagine.
drahkon Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 Hm, Cold War? Me likey. Espionage? Me likey. Sounds good. Although I hated the socialising aspect of GTAIV, I'd love it if you had to find informants and get them to talk through blackmail (no just threatening to kill them but maybe offering to smuggle their family from East to West Berlin, or something). Then when you meet with them you'd have to do it without being discovered. That is a great idea. I thought of it, too. Especially with Cold War being implemented in the story that kind of gameplay aspect would be great. Maybe they add some kind of "power play" into gameplay. I don't know exactly how it could work...you could be able to build up a reputation with gunselling, assassinations etc.
