jebus Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 I thought just came to my head while i was playing pokemon platinum. Would people love a pokemon game for the wii going by the similar mechanics like the ones on ds and gameboys. How would it work, what changes would be needed and would it work in 3d.
Noku Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 I wouldn't. They'd need to overhaul the pokémon encounter system so that you can actually see pokémon instead of just haplessly stumbling onto one. It'd need to have online in some sort. Doesn't mean per se that it has to be an mmo, just a lobby system or battle island would do (for the first genuine wii incarnation). Lack of sleep leads to disinterest for coherence. What in blimey are you doing here at this undogly (so punish me) hour jebus? Seven hours worth of exams today. Ay Dios mÃo...
Dante Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 Famitsu magazine mentions news on a new Pokemon game is coming in the next week magazine. You could get your wish.
Noku Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 Chances are it'll probably be just another one of those Dungeon or Ranger games, no? Or that WiiWare pokémon battle arena thingy...
Dante Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 Yeah it could be that Pokemon Wiiware game that was shown at e3.
Falcon_BlizZACK Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 Im still interested in a pokemon wiiware game... If it includes battling and raising of pokemon.
Tellyn Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 To be honest I hope the series stays exclusive to handhelds. I think the 2D titles have a great charm that just couldn't be matched in 3D. Portability is one of the key features of the RPGs; taking your Game Boy or DS with you to go battle a friend, discussing what you're doing as you're doing it, giving your opponent a Chinese burn when their Dugtrio's Fissure takes out your beloved Wobuffet...
jebus Posted June 10, 2009 Author Posted June 10, 2009 I myself loved the days of playing pokemon stadium on the n64, seeing the pokemon i use on my handheld become 3d and fighting epic battles. That was the best of pokemon 3d for me. The rest of them like the pokemon wiiware games just feel and look cheap to me. The leading ones for now and for the future are the handheld ones with stadium add ons for whatever ninty console is out at the time
Serebii Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 The developers have clearly stated that the main games will remain handheld. The "new" game in Famitsu is going to be Melee! Pokémon Scramble!. Famitsu haven't mentioned it despite the fact it is out next week in Japan
mcj metroid Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 The developers have clearly stated that the main games will remain handheld. we seem to have this argument every 2 months... hmm it's about due time for another one I think.. I still think it could work but you're the expert.. would you not LIKE to see it happen though? It's an ambitious idea and they may fuck it up a fuck times before they get it right but do you really think it should stick to handhelds? To be honest I hope the series stays exclusive to handhelds. I think the 2D titles have a great charm that just couldn't be matched in 3D. ... well Most definetly pokemon gold and silver will surely be the last of the 2d(its even psuedo 3d like) template.. the next handheld by nintendo will surely be as powerful as the psp.. Unless they went with a beautiful artistic 2d format, I really think it's time they upped the graphics to 3d..

It's something you take around with you on the go, to trade and battle with your friends. A home console version just guts that Also, the developers have said that they really like and will keep the top-down view for the main games
Emasher Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 We seem to have this thread every few months now. I'd rather they do something else with Pokemon on consoles, perhaps something that fits into the same universe (Unlike a lot of the spin off games), but still something different, be it an RPG or something else. Just not a mini game collection. Also. you can have top down with more 3D graphics.
mcj metroid Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 Also. you can have top down with more 3D graphics. They more than likely will stick to the grid system... but seriously surely it needs an innovation.. red/blue- was the first colour- colour graphics, day and night system and plenty more ruby/saphire- ? diamond/pearl- on-line new one-.. Thye need to improve something else.. I have many many many gripes for pokemon besides graphics though..
ReZourceman Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 The thing that I fear might be lost if Pokemon goes 3D (in respect of the graphics, not....going onto home console or whatever) is it will lose the crispness and character....accuracy from the sprites.

Very true. Perhaps they'll wait until they have a handheld that can do GC level graphics if they ever do 3D.
Tellyn Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 Spectrobes is all the evidence you should need to know that a portable Pokémon RPG will not work in 3D. I hope they never take it that far.

Falcon_BlizZACK Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 It doesn't even have to be RPG though, a decent Pokemon Stadium 3 - which can be exactly the same as the prequels just with the added pokemon - is good enough. With rental pokemon too ofcourse.
Fierce_LiNk Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 Actually no. I, like the developers, see how Pokémon truely is. It's something you take around with you on the go, to trade and battle with your friends. A home console version just guts that Also, the developers have said that they really like and will keep the top-down view for the main games Pokemon is very pick up and play, and there's a very strong social aspect there. I remember in school we used to have a Pokemon group where we played and traded at lunchtimes. That just couldn't be replicated on a home console. The closest thing Nintendo could do is just go all out with the online functions of the Wii, and create some kind of insanely huge lobby system where you meet up with others and trade that way. Either that, or some kind of "town". It's much better suited to the handhelds, though. Not just graphically, but for some reason I really couldn't imagine sitting infront of the tv and leveling up Pokemon for hours. It's not the same.
Serebii Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 Yeah, when I level up...I tend to be watching tv or doing work...cant do that with it being on a home console
Fierce_LiNk Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 Yeah, when I level up...I tend to be watching tv or doing work...cant do that with it being on a home console Yeah, it's really something that you do as a day-to-day thing. I'd wake up some days and go sit on the wall outside my house, leveling up in the sunshine...when I was a young one. Maybe if Nintendo were being truely ambitious they could devise a game that linked up a home console version and handheld version. Not talking on the lines of Pokemon stadium here. But, having the ability to start a main-quest on the home console, but having the option to transfer the characters onto the handheld and carry on that quest wherever you go. So, having that one big World Map that is accessible on both the handheld and home console. The downsides: The advantage of creating a game on a system is that you take advantage of that system. You would be limited in doing that with this, since you'd have to create something with the other system in mind, too.
mcj metroid Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 Yeah, when I level up...I tend to be watching tv or doing work...cant do that with it being on a home console in it's current form no it probably wont work.. and let's face it the devs are NOT going to try it at all... but surely imagining it.. there must be another way.. obviously the trading aspect would have to take a back seat..
DazzeL Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 in it's current form no it probably wont work.. and let's face it the devs are NOT going to try it at all... but surely imagining it.. there must be another way.. obviously the trading aspect would have to take a back seat.. Not at all imo. If anything I would expand the trading aspect greatly and really push it as why not trade over wifi? Makes a lot more sense than having to find someone else with Pokemon and a DS.
Emasher Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 I don't see them doing an online trading lobby. Iwata isn't going to allow a game frequently played by children to allow communication with strangers. If anything, the online would be the same as in Diamond and Pearl.
