Sounds really interesting. Ad supported free music service. So you can view streaming music for free.

VidZone, Sony's free music video streaming service, will launch on PS3 this summer as an integrated feature of the console's XMB menu, and here are some screenshots of it in action.

The service will allow you to view thousands of music videos, streamed via the internet straight to the PS3, without asking you for single penny.

The new software, which Sony says is "backed by several Major record labels as well as thousands of Independent labels", will pop up under the music icon on your PS3 XMB.

We've been using it this morning and it's pretty fast, the picture and sound quality is good and it all works pretty well, aside from a few clunky menus. We'll show you more soon.

Heard this was coming a while back sounds interesting...hope the adverts aren't too often...spotify gets it spot on (pun not intended) as they aren't too intrusive...

When does it launch?

according to Wikipedia;

VidZone will be released June 4th 2009

This was announced at last years bloody E3.

I reckon it'll go live at E3. I was think about how amazing it would be to team up Spotify and the PS3. I'd kill to have my playlists stored in the cloud and maybe stream as a custom soundtrack on some games.

lots of Battlefield 1943 ads. I am actually excited about it :)

Sony are being abit crazy revealing so much so soon? I mean e3 is just a week away.

Lawl... only just seen the 'dicking around' in the PS3 thread, btw that's not a pic of me for the record, it was just one I found in google image search, but damn lol the negative effect really does makes that sofa arm look decidedly wrong now that you mention it... :/

What the hell? Upgrade app? I don't have a PS3 so I don't get how this works. Is the Playstation 3's GUI/system a frankenstein type beast with bits of tech just added randomly anywhere?

Hmmm. Guess you could say it is. I love the way it just keeps changing over time.

The changing part confuses me. It's an optional, bolt-on, add-on... thing? It sounds like a complicated non-standardised mutant that grows due to lack of coherent system management.

I worry for my future PS3 buying plans, I have heard terrible things about the PS3 system navigation (and Sony products that use this same thing in general).

The XMB?

It's brilliant. Utterly simple and sleek.

The whole PS3 is pretty seamless.

Agreed except when you go all the way to the left and have the bewildering options. Think that would confuse a casual user...

Settings are like that in everything for casual users. Its still leagues ahead of Wii and 360 even in that respect. Not to mention automatic detection in most cases is spot on.
