rokhed00 Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Looks like it's got a better D-pad than the official Wiimote.
D_prOdigy Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Every single bit of it looks to have been made worse than the official one. That D-Pad is awful. I still think Nintendo patenting the proper D-Pad design was one of the craftiest things they've ever done
rokhed00 Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Pity they always make their D-pads too small, The ones on the GC and Wii can be way too inaccurate because of their size.
david.dakota Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 i also love the fact that the hexagonal layout around the analogue stick is patented. Thats why Nintendo controllers will always be the best- Accuracy.
darksnowman Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Looks a bit stinking, aye, but don't Nyko have a good track record and reputation? I remember reading about Nintendo looking to sue Nyko over patent infringement, so maybe they've had to jump through some hoops in order to make this remote passible.
jammy2211 Posted January 8, 2009 Author Posted January 8, 2009 i also love the fact that the hexagonal layout around the analogue stick is patented. Thats why Nintendo controllers will always be the best- Accuracy. It's Octagonal :P. And oddly, my third party N64 Controllers have it :/. And er, I've never really liked it, only a minor thing but I prefer a full circle. I'd say that's more accurate 0_o.

And er, I've never really liked it, only a minor thing but I prefer a full circle. I'd say that's more accurate 0_o. Poor geometry aside, i can't see how the full circle can provide better accuracy- you're reliant on your fingers being absolutely precise to attain the 8 directions easily and quickly. The octagnal rests provided on Nintendo formats accurate guidance - the precision of a D-pad with the scope of analogue. Admittedly, now you've mentioned it, i've seen it on third party hardware, but i'm still of the belief its a Nintendo patent.
MoogleViper Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 I don't think it's that ugly. It's hard to tell from the picture. Which is why a circylar design would be more accurate. Octagonal just makes it easier.
mcj metroid Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 yes but they were the first to have the wireless nunchuck.. and a far better wii zapper.. first party isn't ALWAYS the best.. The buttons look big and handy for one. It looks bad enough colour wise.
jammy2211 Posted January 8, 2009 Author Posted January 8, 2009 http://www.gametrailers.com/player/44120.html The gun looks cool.
dazzybee Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 I don't think it's that Which is why a circylar design would be more accurate. Octagonal just makes it easier. That makes no sense whatsoever!! How does it make it more accurate? It's only 8 ways of movement either way!!
Emasher Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 The Octagonal thing makes it easier and more accurate to aim in those directions, but that doesn't mean you can't move it in the other directions. But that remote is the worst looking game controller I remember seeing ever.
Ten10 Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 We've changed it just enough to not get sued. D-pad thing sucks. Off button its on the other side of the wii remote but I already have 4 official one so meh. But its good to see some third party controllers appearing.
Zechs Merquise Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 EPIC FAIL! That thing is an abomination!
darksnowman Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 There are some brief impressions up on Destructoid... and you know what? Its kinda positive! Guess what? It's pretty slick. We didn't conduct a full-blown test, but we did get to check it out and play a bit of Wii Sports. We instantly noticed an improved hand feel over the standard Wii Remote when we got our hands on it. The underside "B" button is rubberized for an improved grip and feel. And the buttons, although square, are easier to hit and feel responsive. http://www.destructoid.com/ces-2009-nyko-s-wand-wii-controller-hands-on-117680.phtml
D_prOdigy Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 Nobody cares about so-called 'function'! It's all about how it looks, and it looks awful!* *Isn't this the ethos we've been pitching for lately?

It's all about how it looks, and it looks awful!* *Isn't this the ethos we've been pitching for lately? It does look bad, but I have just read the opinions and it sounds like it might be good after all. However I never buy third party gear, simple.

However I never buy third party gear, simple. never judge things on look. and a lot of third party stuff on the wiimote tends to be better to be honest.. nintendo wii zapper is terrible for example and they stil havrn't released a wireless nunchuck:)

I've never even had mine out of the box.
