LostOverThere Posted December 13, 2008 Posted December 13, 2008 With most predicting that the 3 superpowers of gaming will release their next consoles in 2011. A large amount of speculation has arised over what the respected companies next consoles will be like. http://cheesemedia.net/newsblog/?p=71
Nolan Posted December 13, 2008 Posted December 13, 2008 I mostly skimmed, then I came apon this and quit altogether. Compared to it’s competitors the Wii was very slow to the point where some developers (Capcom (I hate you)) simply refused to be required to optimise their game for the Wii, and even in some rare cases cut support all together.
DiemetriX Posted December 13, 2008 Posted December 13, 2008 IMO there's a lot of things wrong with that article/Blog post.
Deathjam Posted December 13, 2008 Posted December 13, 2008 God not another one of these threads. Can't we just enjoy what we have now before we start speculating? I paid too much of my hard earned money to be dreaming about something that is 2-3 years away (longer if I had my way).
That Guy Posted December 13, 2008 Posted December 13, 2008 When I had just a GC I was looking forward to the next generation but now I could quite happily hang on to these 3 consoles for at least another 3-4 years.

Hardly feels like i have had my PS3 but i have had it since January...
Choze Posted December 13, 2008 Posted December 13, 2008 Yeah i am enjoying this gen far more than last. I dont expect Sony or Nintendo want to move on yet for obvious reasons. But MS might.

I swear every other week on the Wii board there some crap about a Wii HD or something equally uninspiring. I feel really settled in this gen. I think part of it is to do with all the extra functions like BluRay, downloadable games and demos. It always takes a while for a console to get into it's stride so even if a new set of consoles did come out it'd be a while before must have games come out. Although it might be a bit different since I can't imagine the step between this gen and next gen will be as big as this gen to next, but who knows.
dwarf Posted December 14, 2008 Posted December 14, 2008 The PS2 still churns out good enough games so I really don't think there is much point in discussing next gen this early.
Emasher Posted December 14, 2008 Posted December 14, 2008 Didn't we just have this thread in the Wii discussion? Anyway. Here's my speculations about the release timeline and console life-spans:
Choze Posted December 14, 2008 Posted December 14, 2008 Amazing PS2 is still selling. According to Sony they still ship more than 360 and PS3 in many regions. I doubt they will cut the price soon.
Shino Posted December 14, 2008 Posted December 14, 2008 Amazing PS2 is still selling. According to Sony they still ship more than 360 and PS3 in many regions. I doubt they will cut the price soon. Of course they do, only now have they been officially released in places like Brazil and India.
Choze Posted December 14, 2008 Posted December 14, 2008 Of course they do, only now have they been officially released in places like Brazil and India. It £99 here in the UK brand new. Crazy. 360 isnt far off in RRP. The bundles with 360 are much more generous as well. I think MS will announce their next console soon.

Its crazy to think, but what can be added to gaming now that hasn't already been added.

Anyways, my ps2 still runs and thank god for that seeing as I have a ton of games still to complete and my ps3 was originally the 40gb model. Fantastic console.
jammy2211 Posted December 14, 2008 Posted December 14, 2008 Don't think it'll be anywhere near as close as some people are suggesting. Sony and Microsoft both lost huge bucks at launch for their consoles, and technology has slowed down alot more lately - there is no logical next step after HD coming as soon as you all seem to think. I think this generation will last much longer then previous, it doesn't make sense to start pushing for new consoles at the moment. We'll see a handheld from Microsoft and Nintendo's next venture before even coming close to consoles. Same goes for Software companies, won't be ready to develope for new systems while they've still struggled this gen.
Daft Posted December 15, 2008 Posted December 15, 2008 Yeah, I agree. I can't think of a developer that would be happy to start developing for a completely new console so soon.
