EEVILMURRAY Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 EEVIL, you could do it, but that's just you abusing to something to strengthen your dislike on purpose, I never did that, so never had that particular problem with it :P I didn't mean to abuse it! The killing blow just sort of happened, sealing the fate on what a piss poor game it was.
Deathborn Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 Yeah, the spoils were cool and the pictographs were amazing, so very addictive to get all of them. It was really an awesome idea. Like I've said before, a Zelda revolving around a magic pictobox has a huge potential in terms of puzzles, sidequests,... Place it in a world kinda similar to MM to have a colorful palette and some weird locations to take pictures (like rocks in shape of ennemies or characters like in Pokemon Snap). Nintendo can even create a picture contest channel. A new IP can also work for that.

Grazza Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 Good point about the freedom. And nice ideas about flight and animal taming. Thank you. I really wish they would bring back that WW system. Allied with TP's swordfighting skills, and OoT's competent enemies, we could have a very awesome fighting system. Yes, you've highlighted the strong points of each game's combat there. Like I've said before, a Zelda revolving around a magic pictobox has a huge potential in terms of puzzles, sidequests,... Yeah, I loved it in MM and WW. It'd also be nice to bring back an instrument (like the ocarina). The wolf's howling was amusing, but slightly overcomplicated. I have to say, I take back anything I said about Twilight Princess not being adrenaline-pumping. I loaded it up last night and had a run through the Cave of Ordeals, as I heard it was harder the 2nd time. Anyway, I cleared the last floor (four darknuts) with four and a half hearts left. My heart was pounding! Then, like an idiot, I jumped off the last ledge and pressed the A-button, landing in the pool and being transported back. The thing is, I'm sure I saw something on the ledge, which I wanted to investigate. Doh! I must say, I think this is one game it's better to rush through than take your time. I looked at my save files and the first playthrough took me 54 hours, the second 28 and the third 22. I definitely enjoyed it more the 2nd and 3rd times. I'll save my 4th playthrough for when I get it on the Wii!
Hellfire Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 Like I've said before, a Zelda revolving around a magic pictobox has a huge potential in terms of puzzles, sidequests,... As long as it's great, I'm happy :P Grazza you don't have TP for the Wii? The aiming alone, makes it worth it, it makes the game much more dynamic.
Grazza Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 No, I don't actually have a Wii! I'm not having a go at Nintendo, I'm just a cheapskate (that wasn't the reason I wanted TP on GC though)! I'm finding it harder and harder to resist buying one - needless to say, I'll scoop up the big games when I get one.
Rummy Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 Man, I forgot about things from WW like the little item balls and the ability to pick up enemies' weapons and wave/throw them about, and alot of the sidequests and item collecting things! Goodtimes. Why did they not put any of it in TP? Does seem very silly. I guess it's Hellfire's catch 22, too many people want too many different things, and they can't please them all? Maybe Nintendo should try to make a truly ultimate Zelda game one day, poll a massive number of players and do some serious market research into what people want from it, or what they liked from the old games, then build it from there, cos it's apparently clear they're getting out of touch with the gamers. Back to the original post however, does anyone know what happened to Edjamakated and if he's ever gonna post some follow-up? I think this has been an excelllent discussion thread, I want more! I'm finding it harder and harder to resist buying one - needless to say, I'll scoop up the big games when I get one. I know this probably isn't the place for it, but what big games? Personally, I barely touch my Wii except for some multiplayer brawling. I never 100%ed TP after I killed the final boss(I tend to 100% my zelda) and never really played it again from 2 weeks after and on. I also didn't even finish getting all the stars of Galaxy for the first run through. The Wii leaves me surprisingly unmotivated compared to previous Nintendo consoles. I'd probs say if you ain't in it for Brawl, hold out.

As long as it's great, I'm happy :P Same for me. My idea is more a wishful thinking than something I absolutely want. All I want for the next Zelda is Nintendo being creative, doing what they want and delivering a quality game. And I know I won't be disappointed. Every Zelda has been great.
EEVILMURRAY Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 Bollocks to picking up and using enemies weapons. We work our arse off getting the Master Sword and rape dungeons for other gadgets, use the fruits of your labour dammit!
Hellfire Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 All this Zelda talk is making want to pop in TP right now. But I must study! Damn you!
Emasher Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 I think I've really got to go back and play WW and TP now. I just wish I had more time.
Grazza Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 Maybe Nintendo should try to make a truly ultimate Zelda game one day, poll a massive number of players and do some serious market research into what people want from it, or what they liked from the old games, then build it from there, cos it's apparently clear they're getting out of touch with the gamers. That's actually a very good idea. I've read before that developers won't listen to fans' ideas (for legal reasons, at least), but serious research into existing aspects fans would like retained is a good idea. Nintendo must be free to carry out their artistic visions, and I know not every element fits every game. However, I hope Nintendo haven't forgotten Moblins, power bracelets, the mirror shield, the magic bar and fire/ice arrows, amongst other things. It's nice to see them at least once per generation, if not in every game. Back to the original post however, does anyone know what happened to Edjamakated and if he's ever gonna post some follow-up? I think this has been an excelllent discussion thread, I want more! I've enjoyed it too and would like to read Edjamakated's further ideas. It just goes to show what a great series Zelda is that people care about it so much. To me, it's because it has the adventure of an RPG (which it isn't, in my opinion), but the thrills of an action game. It's pretty unique. I know this probably isn't the place for it, but what big games? Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime 3 are the main system sellers for me. Then there are the other appealing games like Wario Land, Twilight Princess (if only for comparison) and the Virtual Console (I've never played Super Metroid, which I must correct!) Thanks for your advice. I agree it's not a good time for me to get one just yet. With hindsight, I should have bought one at launch, but I was bitter about the Zelda delay/dual release. I play my friends' though and I do agree the aiming/pointing is very good.

Hellfire Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 And Wiiware games, and Fire Emblem, and other gems. People usually think the Wii is only worth 3 games. In my opinion a lot of people want to think that, they can't accept otherwise and resign themselves to that "fact". They ignore new IPs from 3rd parties, old IPs, you name it. Everyone's happy to say there are no games coming out, even with a wealth of good and even great games launching, they simply ignore them and keep saying the same. That's not the case of anyone participating in this discussion I think, but it's what I can conclude from what I see throught the interwebs. Irrelevant to this discussion though.
Emasher Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 I think the problem with people (and I would partially include myself in this to an extent) just ignore good games and only buy the big names. Something thats not a big name != a bad game.
... Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 Not so for me. It's not about the name, but about the game itself. Games like Blob or Boom Blox simply do not appeal to me and everyone raves about them in Nintendo related forums. Racing games, sports games, also not my cup of tea. Except Tiger Woods, I want to buy one of those. I like adventure games, stuff like Metroid, Zelda and Mario (duh), not because of their names, but because of what they are. If Mario was called Alfred, it would still be a kickass game. Okami, Tomb Raider, Godfather, etc. I want stuff like Kizuna, Fatal Frame IV, Rygar, The Conduit, Cursed Mountain, etc. Those are the games that get my interest, not Wiiware, Wii Fit, or Boom Blox. I also fail to understand everyone's over-excitement at a Punch Out game over something like Kid Icarus... it's just a boxing game. But like I said, sports games are not really my thing. I guess ever since when I was a kid and I wanted to buy a new NES game and I wanted Castlevania but my older brother chose World Cup instead (cause you know, it's football, ooooohhhhhh! ), I kind of grew a certain hate for sports games. I'll take adventure and a good story/mood any day.
Hellfire Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 Lots of games were not my thing either, until I tried them on th Wii, the motion controls even when flawed, add a lot to games for me. Sorry to bring this up, it'a a zelda discussion!
Hero-of-Time Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 I guess ever since when I was a kid and I wanted to buy a new NES game and I wanted Castlevania but my older brother chose World Cup instead (cause you know, it's football, ooooohhhhhh! ), I kind of grew a certain hate for sports games. I'll take adventure and a good story/mood any day. LOL. I loved that game to bits! It was great when you tackled a player and he looked liked he had died on the pitch. Ah, good times were had on that game.

I play my friends' though and I do agree the aiming/pointing is very good. To be fair, others in the thread have raised very good points, and I thought after posting, I'd told you to hold out, but then...hold out for what? The way things are going, I don't think the Wii'll see a price drop anytime soon, and you have games you want it for, so it's worth doing when you have the monies(that'd be the only thing I'd say to hold out for). It's all going off topic though. That's actually a very good idea. I've read before that developers won't listen to fans' ideas (for legal reasons, at least), but serious research into existing aspects fans would like retained is a good idea. It's nice to see them at least once per generation, if not in every game. Yeah, I think the legal problems come with claims to rights of ideas and intellectual property and whatnot, but if it was just about all the old previous zeldas and their aspects, and then they developed things from there on, I don't see why it'd cause any problems! It's nice you mention some of the old aspects from the old games. When someone mentioned the bug sidequest and the bug catching net earlier, my face lit up with nostalgia! What a brilliant idea, a tiny touch for the old school fans, strange they didn't consider to implement it. It's is one other flaw of TP, it seemed to move too much into new and left behind some old in way of items and enemies. I would love something with a lot of bits of nostalgia and nods to previous titles and items, I just think it'd help recapture and recreate the magic of the Zelda games. I KNOW there's something missing lately, I think we all do, the problem is that I can't for the life of me place it, and I think it might be because it isn't one big thing, it's just all the little things that add up in the end.
EEVILMURRAY Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 Someone clarify what IP means in this discussion please, I'm getting a trifle confused.
... Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 I do believe it's Intellectual Property. It basically means a franchise of games. Mario is an IP, Zelda is an IP. When people talk about new IPs, they want new franchises.
Rummy Posted October 3, 2008 Posted October 3, 2008 Intellectual Property I believe. Basically, Zelda is an IP, Metroid is an IP, Mario is an IP, Sonic is an IP, DK is an IP, Pikmin is an IP, Timesplitters is an IP. Basically, any new sort of 'series' is an intellectual property. Nintendo need new, good IPs to get back that unique that they offer(and to stop rinsing the old IPs), back in the day it was Mario and he was flagship, he WAS Nintendo. What do people think of when they think of Nintendo now? Probably just Wii and DS, no actual games, and it shouldn't be like that. We want good, new, IPs from Nintendo so they offer something no one else does, but they have to implement it well obviously. EDIT:Woops, didn't see ...'s post there, wrote this last night then posted this morning. Now I feel silly.
EEVILMURRAY Posted October 3, 2008 Posted October 3, 2008 Right. So basically the word series' condensed into two capital letters. All is clear.
Guest Maase Posted October 3, 2008 Posted October 3, 2008 I don't really think we need new IP's, i mean, look at IP's around the world, different name, same concept. I think we should only get a new IP if we have a completely different concept.
Blue_Ninja0 Posted October 5, 2008 Posted October 5, 2008 LOL. I loved that game to bits! It was great when you tackled a player and he looked liked he had died on the pitch. Ah, good times were had on that game. lol I even had a picture taken from that sprite a few years back because I loved it so much. Someone use it as an avatar now.
