Charlie
I'm moving into a flat in a few weeks time which does have a BT line in it but it isn't actually connected. It's also in a cable area so that is an option. I'm wondering what's the best way to get the internet? Best meaning cheapest:fastest ratio. Bearing in mind a BT line costs an extra £10.50 a month before you even get the internet whereas if I go the cable route I wouldn't have to pay for the BT Line Rental. 02 Broadband seems to be very good as I'm already an 02 customer I get a discount and I've heard its the best broadband around at the moment? Or are there any other routes I can take?

Ashley
Wish I lived in a cable area. Having to pay an extra £11 is a right pain. But yeah O2 is probably your best bet (as long as you're aware its a 12 month min contract - as are most but I think you're going into uni yes?) Shorty
If you don't want to pay a lot you can consider talk talk. I used to be with them, you get the line rental with them and then the broadband for about £6, making your bill about £16.50 (if you do paperless billing and direct debit). Also I think they do the first few months at a lower price etc. If you do decide to go with o2, go through quidco, I think you can get about £25 cashback. Going into uni and the flat has a 12 month lease so a 12 month contract isn't a problem unless the connection is dire and I want to get out early. Has anyone got any experience with TalkTalk broadband? And thanks for the quidco heads-up, Shorty, always forget about it! Edit - Hmm, TalkTalk has a minimum length contract of 18 months, can't do that. Looks like BT line + O2 it is then.
Ashley
Im having my own broadband issues. Being in a non-cabled area means I need a BT line and because we're moving we need to take out new 12 month contracts. This wouldn't be an issue if that jerkwad next door didn't force us to move. Oh and umm no, no experience with TalkTalk personally.
Cube
From my experience, avoid cable if you can.
RoadKill
Virgin Media cable is on a par with my current provider (be) Virgin is fantastic if you can get it - the downstream speeds are easily faster than any DSL2 (be promises 24Mbit, virgin promises 20.. virgin is faster, real world.. the upload speeds seem to be better with be, though). However be seems to have much more awesome customer support - but you still need a BT phone line, so the costs between be and virgin are pretty comparable. http://www.bethere.co.uk http://www.virginmedia.com For the record, the O2 broadband offering IS just Be - Be was bought out by O2 in 2006 and O2 uses their infrastructure, but given the choice, I'd go with Be.
