Daft Posted December 14, 2010 Author Posted December 14, 2010 Anyone with Plus, the Beta is on the store now. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2010-12-14-ps-plus-exclusive-dc-universe-beta-access It's 15Gb...
Shorty Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 Exclusive Plus access? So anyone who signed up for the beta months ago has no chance, it's just Plus members?
Daft Posted December 14, 2010 Author Posted December 14, 2010 Probably. Although they may do both. I suspect just Plus for the PS3, though.
Happenstance Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 Well if any Plus users do give it a try, make sure you let us know what its like. Need the game to hurry up and come out so we can create the NE Justice-ish League
Daft Posted December 14, 2010 Author Posted December 14, 2010 Downloading now. Should be done...in 5/6 hours. I hope this is good. I'd love to have a N-E Team.
Daft Posted December 14, 2010 Author Posted December 14, 2010 Is DC Universe everything DC? Like Watchmen. Or just the main character's universe? What about the multi-verse and all that Jazz.
Happenstance Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 From what ive seen theyre only using the main DC universe and not the multiverse but I guess who knows what they may want to add.
Daft Posted December 14, 2010 Author Posted December 14, 2010 Slick. I'm downloading at 9.5Mbps. 5 hours left apparently.
flameboy Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 Well I'll set it off to download overnight and switch off when its done but I'm going away till 3rd January tomorrow, any idea when it runs up to? Very excited this has been the mmo I've been holding out for
Daft Posted December 15, 2010 Author Posted December 15, 2010 So I gave this a quick go. Seems no awful. My character rocks, obviously. He takes after Superman. I called him Abaddon. Dumb name. He's got two swords and stuff. Next time I think I'll just make my character punch people. Swords are silly. Unless I can get a cool upgrade. Also, who the Hell wants to walk when you can fly everywhere? There are a couple gripes with it not quite feeling epic enough in terms of how you kick ass and the inability to control flight speed but I I guess that's an MMO issue.
Happenstance Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Can you fly straight away or is it something you have to work towards like City of Heroes?
Daft Posted December 15, 2010 Author Posted December 15, 2010 You can fly from the off. Not sure if you fly better as you level up. Would be awesome if you did.
Happenstance Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Id hope that they do, id like to see progression in the powers and not just getting new ones as you level up. I quite liked the way City of Heroes did it, you only had a basic power set when you first started and while playing the game you chose which way you wanted your character to progress, flight, super speed, jumping etc.
Daft Posted December 15, 2010 Author Posted December 15, 2010 I'll look into it more when I give it another go. It looked like there were massive progression speeds but I'm not sure about real world movement. I think there was.
flameboy Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 I'm downloading now...downloaded off psn yesterday not noting the small file size! So left it doing it says will take 2 hours 50 mins

Happenstance Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Ah right, its been years since I last played it. I might actually read up on it later, id be interested to see what changes there have been since I left.
Daft Posted December 15, 2010 Author Posted December 15, 2010 This is actually a lot of fun. I only played WoW for two weeks but I was bored pretty quickly by that. This seems a lot more fun. There's a story from the off and it's quite cool seeing all the heroes running and flying around the city. Also, the areas are huge. You have access to all of Metropolis and there aren't any areas that need to load. This might be an MMO I want to actually play. Shocking, really. Rez isn't going to like this but it doesn't look like you can be a Lantern. At least at the moment. I wonder how the Villain's missions differ.

Daft Posted December 16, 2010 Author Posted December 16, 2010 (edited) To be fair, you can pretty much make a Lantern with the costume editing. You can't be a Lantern in the same way you can't technically be a Kryptonian. But you can have all their powers and look like one. Not sure how close the powers come to that of the Lantern's. Edit: Apparently the Green Lantern fight set is coming but won't be there at launch. http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/350/feature/4665 There seems to be quite good reasoning behind it. Dan_Dare Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 . Green Lantern is a little more fringe than Batman or Superman, but by no means is he less deserving of attention. It would be easy enough to just give players a few powers that vaguely resemble a ring of power, but instead what SOE Austin is hoping to do is build up the background of the Green Lantern lore for some time before unleashing the power set and probably a whole host of other content to coincide with it. This is the kind of thing that’s tailor-made for an expansion, if you ask me. Fair point. Still kind of blows though.
Happenstance Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 As I think I spoke about in this thread before, I think it'd be awesome if you couldnt just choose to become a Green Lantern but depending on your play style you could be offered a ring later on in the game.
