As of last year, there were 30. Wii has 26 million-selling games. Smash Bros Brawl: 4.85 million as of March 31 Nintendo has reported its full year financial results, with a strong showing on the back of high sales figures, as expected. The company saw sales jump 73 per cent across the fiscal year, while operating income was up 115.6 per cent and profit up 47.7 per cent. Total sales therefore amounted to JPY 1.67 trillion (USD 16.1 billion), with profit hitting JPY 257 billion (USD 2.48 billion), fuelled by the sales of over 30 million Nintendo DS consoles, and almost 19 million Wii consoles. DS titles Pokemon Diamond and Pearl shifted almost 10 million units between them, while the Brain Training titles hit almost 12 million. Wii Fit and Super Smash Bros Brawl featured highly on the Wii titles list. But despite the strong results, the company has only forecast only a 7.6 per cent increase in sales for the next fiscal year, to JPY 1.8 trillion (USD 17.3 billion), with a 26.3 per cent rise to JPY 325 billion (USD 3.13 billion) in profits. One of the key reasons for the modest forecast is down to overarching economic conditions, with a strengthening Yen expected to hit Nintendo's numbers in the next year, thanks to over 80 per cent of company income coming outside of Japan. www.nintendo.co.jp FY* Sony** Nintendo Microsoft 1998 974,000,000 629,000,000 1999 1,130,000,000 645,000,000 2000 730,000,000 421,000,000 2001 -409,000,000 726,000,000 2002 623,000,000 800,000,000 -750,000,000 2003 939,000,000 560,000,000 -1,191,000,000 2004 650,000,000 316,000,000 -1,215,000,000 2005 404,000,000 777,000,000 -485,000,000 2006 75,000,00 894,000,000 -1,262,000,000 2007 -1,969,000,000 1,489,000,000 -1,892,000,000 2008 -965,000,000 2,480,000,000 532,000,000 Totals 2,182,000,000 9,737,000,000 -6,263,000,000
Goron_3 Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 It's official, games don't sell on Wii. Ah, the fanboys come rolling in to defend their precious console. It would be nice to get a list of the million sellers...I'd imagine some of the games on that list to be crap like carnival nights lol.

tapedeck Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 02. Carnival Games (2K) Carnival Games isn't exactly the worst example of a title on Wii. I think it gets too much slander. Sure it's not EPIC!!!!! But it's a great party title that does a lot of things right. It's just that it does a lot of things wrong too. Believe me, there are far worse titles on wii. It's just that this "crud" or "Carnival Nights" (as it was called a few posts back) has sold rather amazingly...And doesn't that always happen on a console? There is always that one piece of software which sells amazingly well when perhaps it shouldn't of. Same goes for Okami etc...they were expected to do well but never.
Zelda_Rulez Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 Didn't know MySims sold a million, and on DS as well.

system_error Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 With all those sales and piles of money Nintendo should really start subsidize the Wii a lot more. Even casuals notice that a Wii costs 60€ more than a 360 - and they go for the cheaper alternative not the more innovative one. So if Nintendo should like to continue with awsome sales they better lower the price of the Wii to 149€ AND take the bitter pill in losing some money on the console.
Goron_3 Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 Some of those games don't even deserve to sell half a million..hm Capcom sales are pleasing though...shame all we're getting atm is Resi 0 *sigh* (thankgod that's japan only). REAL shame No More Heroes and Zack and Wiki didn't sell a million. It's the fact that the sales of these new IPs which are aimed at the hardcore (to an extent) which are making developers worried about investing in the wii.

The Wii keeps selling non-stop rate because it is the must innovative one and no really going to noticed that 360 is cheaper now.
Deathjam Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 Initially price would have made a difference. But now, word of mouth is carrying the message that wii is a fun new experience that anyone of any age can play. Plus with the strong marketing campaign behind wii fit, the wii is destined to keep on selling. Until the PS3 reaches the price of the wii, I think the machine can stay at the price it is.
Tellyn Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 Ah, the fanboys come rolling in to defend their precious console. Can we have a thread in Wii Discussion that doesn't involve people who now dislike Nintendo chipping away at those who like them?

Ashley Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 It's official, games don't sell on Wii. Mhm its strange, people seem to be fine with just a few. (personally I own 22)
Jamba Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 Micro$oft drop out of the console race already [/hint] Yes cos of course, making an increase in their porfit figures by over $2.5bn is the perfect reason for them to drop out. It's obvious...
system_error Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 I own about 15 Wii games but I am a hardcore gamer - those low numbers are because the casual gamer is happy with Wii Sports for a long time. Playing only a few times a week the game doesn't wear off as fast. In my case I could need a good game every month or even often in holidays or when I have more time. I still believe that not only the initial success was due to a lower price but will be even more important in the next XMAS season. Only selling consoles is not enough to be successfull - games are still more important.

Ah the trolls come imediatly to attack others and call them fanboys the cycle is complete. They could even be shit spread on a disc (literally), it just proves that people who say that games don't sell on Wii are wrong
Goron_3 Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 Can we have a thread in Wii Discussion that doesn't involve people who now dislike Nintendo chipping away at those who like them? I love nintendo. But sometimes people say the funniest things. I wonder if Ninjabread Man or whatever is close to a million sales...
Hellfire Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 I love nintendo. But sometimes people say the funniest things. I wonder if Ninjabread Man or whatever is close to a million sales... I would have to agree.
DazzeL Posted April 25, 2008 Posted April 25, 2008 Actually, what shocks me in that list is the amount of good to very good titles in there. Given the doom and glow we're constantly fed about low Wii attach-rates I'm pretty glad. Sure a few casual games, and a few poor casual games, are in there but that's to be expected - check out ps2 last gen.
McPhee Posted April 25, 2008 Posted April 25, 2008 It's official, games don't sell on Wii. Well looking at the figures they don't. Nintendo expect to sell another 25 Million Wii's this year, bringing the number up to almost 50 Million. They expect to sell 177 Million games. They expect each Wii owner to buy a mere 3 games in the next 12 months, they obviously aren't that confident about software sales themselves (unless that 177 Million is just Nintendo's own games? Im not sure) It also shows why developers are so apprehensive about making Wii games aimed at the "hardcore" audience. The only game to shift over a million that isn't liscenced or mini-games is Red Steel. A single game out of 26. It's an expensive proposition, especially when you consider that No More Heroes, Zak and Wiki, NiGHTS and similar games cost a lot more to make than most of the games on the Million Seller list...
Hellfire Posted April 25, 2008 Posted April 25, 2008 It also shows why developers are so apprehensive about making Wii games aimed at the hardcore audience. The only game to shift over a million that isn't liscenced or mini-games is Red Steel. A single game out of 26. So if it's not a new IP or if it's a party game, it doesn't count? Now you're just grasping at straws. EDIT: We know that with this many Wiis, lots of owners are "casual" gamers and with so few good 3rd party games or new IPs, it's normal this happens. It's a low attach rate yes, and it's a shame that there aren't some more original million sellers in there, but 26 million sellers in 1 year and a half in a console that's so different from before is great no matter how you look at it. I do agree that developers are still aprehensive about the core audience and I'm hoping we'll see more change. EDIT2: Z&W cost very little to do and was a success according to Capcom's folks in the forums. It deserved to sell gazillions yes, but it still had good sales. NMH is too recent and tbh, we all knew it wouldn't sell much, despite being Suda's best selling game yet.
McPhee Posted April 25, 2008 Posted April 25, 2008 So if it's not a new IP or if it's a party game, it doesn't count? Now you're just grasping at straws. Sounds like your the one that's grasping. You've completely dodged all my points and tried to point the finger of fanboyism. Again. I said those titles don't sell, not that they "don't count". Im not even 100% certain by what you mean when you say they "don't count"
Hellfire Posted April 25, 2008 Posted April 25, 2008 I didn't dodge them, I answered them in the edit lol Also, stop with fanboyism stuff, it's getting anoying, if I didn't back my posts up, OK, but I do. You want to prove your point about devs being aprehensive to make "hardcore" games. This point is true. However, to prove so you just take every non-lincensed game out of the list and make it seem like no "hardcore" games sell, because I see 16 or so (hard to say what's casual or not these days lol) in that list. That's what I meant, don't know how you interpreted that way, but there, I expanded on the logic. That's 16 core games and 10 casual games. See the difference from this point of view? The main problem here is that Wii is obviously marketed at Nintendo fans and gets the additional sales due to the innovation and "casual" factor, meaning that without good marketing, new core IPs cant sell. And marketing is a big part of sales. Sonic and RE already have their fans, no marketing needed, Z&W had very very poor marketing, but fortunately it sold enough for Capcom to be minimally pleased. No More Heroes as usual from Suda, zero marketing. Kinda hard to sell if they don't try hard, then it's easy to say "We can't compete against Nintendo games." I wonder how Okami will do considering their very low budget for marketing, low fan base and the fact that there's already a ps2 version. Although that with a team of 8 people at its peak I doubt they'll need a lot of sales to make profit lol. Edit: USA Tie-In ratios: Xbox 360:7.5 Wii:5.3 PS3:4.6 Higher than I thought.
