How much do Nintendo REALLY hate us? (Your help required)

Anyone remember the post GameCube days? Just think how many amazing N64 and SNES games we never saw?

 

I don't even want to think about it, playing Sin and Punishment makes you realise what we were missing. Fair enough, delays suck, but at least Nintendo arn't doing what they did to us 10 years ago.

I just don't think Japanese developers take Europe seriously. And it ain't just a Nintendo thing, look at how Saturn and Dreamcast owners got the shaft whilst their Japanese counterparts were still getting great games.

I say this every single time but sony are just as bad if not worse..

 

ps3 delayed about 6 months.

 

psp delayed an entire year literally..

Thats because the consoles actually sold over in japan.

 

nobody cared about them here. Especially the saturn.

Nintendo are more business minded than fan-friendly because they really need the profit, I mean really.

 

I see the release dates at present are bearable and getting better; I'm happy to recieve Brawl for 2008 since every month of 2007 from now will feature games worthy of its price tag. The only thing I get pi$$ed at is when a game is hugely delayed, then when it is released it seems like it is lacking a few things gameplay-wise. You begin to wonder if this delay was really needed and if it was only delayed for business related reasons only rather than adding or polishing the game up.

 

Twilight Princess is my prime example, this game could have been released in 2005 on the Gamecube but was delayed for a whole year only to turn it into a Wii game with Wii controls that weren't very necessary in terms of better enjoyment of the game. The only plus for that transittion was just the IR bow and arrow control, but I don't think that was worth a one year wait.

I would have preferred one year of adding to the game rather than just merely adding a new control scheme. Does anyone remember the promo trailers? And the feeling of epicness it portrayed? (like the seemingly large Castle Town) IMO that was not evident in the game and it seems so many scenes were cut out (like Amorgohma chasing Link and a rainy scene where Link throws down his shield).

The cannon transportation thing was really an annoying idea and makes me think of Nintendo laziness, they could have done something a little less crude to get to the Gerudo Desert and the Sky city. And I would prefer if they atleast tried to inform us briefly on the history of Hyrule so far rather than making vague to nil frustrating references (like no Gerudos). With taking all this crap, TP ended up being the only Zelda I felt like trading in and not wanting to replay again (unlike OOT, MM and even WW).

 

Ofcourse this is all my opinion. I'm just aware of Nintendo games at present that don't seem to be 'full' or completed in a way that makes me feel like "Ahhhh...Bliss". Then when its coupled with a delay, it kind of gives me a bitter after taste that just turns even more bitter when things don't seem to change (looking at Super Paper Mario).

The second half of that doesn't really have much to do with the current topic. That's something else. And I can't imagine playing TP without Wii controls...WW is hard to play now. Also, small references is what Zelda is all about, and the "no Gerudos" is one of the most obvious things in the game. The only male of a species gets imprisoned - why should they need to explain it any further? (and they hint that some may have bred with Hyrulians. A nice nod to things mentioned in OoT).

With that logic then the OOT Gerudo race would have been extinct since one male is born every one hundred years. They use Hyrulians as mates, but again it wuldn't hurt for Nintendo to delve deeper into this theory rather than us making our own.

 

And if you prefer the Wii controls fine, but there is no reason why they couldn't have released this earlier for the Cube.

On the other hand, Nintendo could have easily just released the game on Wii exclusively, and completely screwed over their GameCube fanbase. At least give them some kudos for that.

Agreed, they still gave the Gamecube it's well deserved swan song, any company that had a total lack of respect for their fans would've made it a Wii exclusive.

 

Kudos to MCJ too for pointing out that SONY does this too, as far as I'm concerned it's just a Japanese thing. They simply don't view Europe as importnat as Japan or the US. Still, at least we're not as irrelevent as Australia! lol

Well, Nintendo is a company, so in the end they are about money and not our appreciation.

 

Anyway, it's true that NoE has a massive back-catalogue of screw-ups. I'd say they hate us moderaltely. I don't think it's all bad intention, though. And truth be told, it's has gotten better. Sometimes they can't do much about it, sometimes they can but can't be bothered. NoE never has been a highlight of respect for gamers or sensible decisions. If somehow we could kick them on their proverbial behinds... without the pointless idea of a boycot, ofcourse.

 

Come to think of it, NoE and ONM do have a lot in common. :heh:

The year was spent on much more than the controls. If they hadn't put it on the Wii it would have been terribly rushed.

No offence, but somehow I doubt that because after the year the game STILL feels a bit rushed.

 

The begining felt decent enough, begining with a pretty big area and a big dungeon. But (for me) after the fourth dungeon it all steadily came crashing downwards, in terms of things to do. Then the last two 'dungeons' - possibly the most important places in the game - end up being 10 minute run-ins.

Cheers for the response, guys. Okay, I've had a chat with a QA bloke at Atlus. He reliably informs me that Trauma Center was delayed because of typical localisation things, translating, etc... Is TC a text-heavy game? And regardless, it didn't take the same amount of time to release other Wii games, so I'm not buying that. And Australia STILL hasn't go it? Must be all that time to translate into Aborigine. But whatever, he was a nice bloke, so I'll see what NoE have to say about it.

 

Re: Stars catalogue, I'm told that that's basically sod all to do with NoE. They give away from Nintendo let them give away. They're not holding back the Stars > Points thing for any reason, it's just Nintendo (Japan) not giving them the go ahead. Why? Well, I don't speak much Japanese, so...

They took all that time translating the game and they still made a big spelling error on the map screen, idiots.

Haha. So, is it especially text-heavy? I don't remember much from the brief time I've played on the Wii/DS versions. btw, I was surprised at the lack of vitriol towards the VC. I think it's a bloody shambles myself, especially from Sega.

The VC doesnt bother me much. I dont really care if the games are running at 50Hz and have borders, its just a great thing to be able to download and play games from my childhood so I will take what I can get.

How long exactly did it take you to go through the Palace of Twilight? The innards of Hyrule Castle was also a quick one, with obvious puzzles. Basically, I see they could have added a bit more to these parts. How about the Twili you rescued with the light Master Sword, how about have them say something relevent about the story? Or how about giving a reason as to why that green orc kidnapped the children? That was a major plotline in the game and is the actual reason Link sets off on adventure in the game...But no, I'm asking too much to fill up these plotholes. :indeed:

 

Its not really that Nintendo hates us, its that they know their fans are willing to accept any odd crap without uttering a word about any inconsistences. Most Nintendo fans are ready to right off a Sony or Microsoft or any other non-Nintendo released game even if they haven't played it (ex: Halo 3, MGS4), but faults in Nintendo's games and services are always accompanied by excuses from fans (ex: "The plotholes in Zelda is what make this game great" etc). Nintendo assumes we're happy because Nintendo fans rarely speak out about Nintendo shortcomings so they still retain elements of sloppiness in their services and software. But now Nintendo has sold a lot of units, they can't give two f***s about what we think; thats why their promises are always broken and with no word of an apology (ie "New channel for September")...But you still praise them. :shakehead

Hmm, I can't remember how long exactly but I'm certain it was more than ten minutes for each. I didn't rush it but nor did I take my time. I agree that it coulda been longer and more complex but that isn't to say that as it stands, its a simple walk in and walk out task.

 

If making games that are "bad" means Nintendo hate us, then that means there are a whole lotta devs out there that really detest us!

Okay I use '10 minutes' as a figure of speech for being short, the only things that lengthen the time in the Palace of Twilight are those levitating platforms and the tedium that is fighting Zant's hologram...(gee where have I done that before?).

Well, yeah, if it was 50hz, bordered games or nothing, I'd go for the former. But it's 2007, and considering we pay the most money for VC games, we shouldn't get treated the worst. At the very least we should be treated like adults and be allowed to choose between 50/60Hz. My TV hasn't exploded playing TG-16 games, and Lost Levels (another issue entirely) didn't ruin my TV with its CRAZY 60Hzness.

I have the Green Hill Zone tune stuck in my brain. I remembered it even after 10 years of not hearing it. I don't want to be confused by having the VC version play it faster.

Others may want the opposite, as Miniluv said, we should have a choice and not be forced to only be able to accept one option.
