New Monitor wanted - not a clue what to look for

I need a new monitor for uni. Main reasons are that this current monitor gets screen burn easily, but the main reason is that I want to play my Wii in my room when I'm at uni so I need one of those composite thingys.

However I haven't a clue where to go/what to trust etc. Hence why this section is here for all you pr0 people to help show uneducated dicks like me the light.

I'm thinking of spending about £150-200 or fuck, even less if possible.

any recommendations gringos?

I just went through 5 sites for you.

Currently the best value monitor is a 22" Widescreen, which you can grab for about 200 pounds.

20" widescreen isn't worth it because they're only 30-20 pounds less, might as well go for another 2 inches. 24" would be going into the 300 pound territory apart from this Acer which hits about 250 pounds but lacks DVI input.

If you don't want to go widescreen (huge mistake) then let me know and I can dig up some more ideas.

LG and Samsung make the best monitors, I'm going to go ahead and recommend this one: LG L226WTQ, it's slightly cheaper than the Samsung equivalent and has an awesome contrast ratio.

The best price for this one is 190 from MicroDirect (decent site)

Those 3 all have built in TV tuners too. Not sure how good they are though, not read much about them

This has composite: http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/114797

Theres the Samsung 215TW too, composite, component, s-video, VGA and DVI. It's one of the highest rated monitors around, prices just over £200

So is VGA an input I'm looking for or composite to connect my Wii?

Or are they the same. I don't want it if it won't lemme hook it up.

Could someone just break it down for me in monkey terms, because all the spec shizzle is going right over my head.

EDIT:

http://www.vdigi.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=shop.flypage&product_id=2&category_id=3&manufacturer_id=0&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=1

This would kinda negate the use for a specialised monitor no?

Ah right, sorry didn't read the first post.

This doesn't have composite so you wouldn't be able to hook your Wii up to it, although I think I remember someone posting about the first VGA adaptor for the Wii, which may work. Sadly the forum search seems to be screwed (apparently no-one has ever written "vga" in any post, despite the fact it's used in the one above this) so I can't find it!

VGA would be much better than composite. There's a Wii VGA cable you can order from VDigi.com (all the way from China), but I dunno about the quality. I have one on order but it'll be two to three weeks before I can give you impressions.

That thing I linked above? I've been looking at it, but based on that diagram it looks like I would have to buy another cable to connect it to my speakers.

I've got a Samsung 19" LCD TV/Monitor. The case isn't the best, but I never look at the case when I'm using it, anyway.

1440x900 resolution, and it has Composite, Scart, S-Video, Component, DVI and PC inputs.

I've had a problem with a few problems appearing towards the left of the screen, but a press of the auto button solved that.

Just avoid if you are thinking of getting a PS3 or Blu-Ray player.

What do you mean? The cable seperates two RCA cables for left and right sound, the same way the standard Wii composite cable works. You should be able to connect your speakers just fine. All you need is a converter plug which should cost you three pounds maximum.

Ooo yeh thats good too (Infact i'm using it now)

It has most inputs on it,

Component = Wii in 480p / xbox 360 / ps3

Composite = Wii / dvd players and what not

DVI = PC

VGA = PC / Xbox

Tv input

And Scart = Dvds, freeview box etc.

If it was my money i'd go for one of these 3:

http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/3362511/LG-22LS4R-22-Widescreen-LCD-Monitor-With-TV-Tuner-And-HDMI/Product.html?dpr=4545

http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=622466

or the Samsung 215TW (no good prices on this right now, most are around the £240 mark but i've seen it as low as £200).

If i was going to buy today i'd order the 22" LG from Play.com

A little on the pricey side but it beats the competition hands down it terms of range of features.

If you can get a hold of a Wii VGA cable though then ignore all that and buy a regular monitor. Should save you a fair bit of cash
