Happenstance Posted April 26, 2010 Share Posted April 26, 2010 I finished reading Man of Steel Vol.1 by John Byrne the other day which for those that dont know is the Superman reboot after the original Crisis. Really enjoyed it, usually I tend to have a bit of trouble going back past the 90s with comics, im not a big fan of the writing or more washed out colours but this I really liked. Possibly because some seemed familiar so I may have read some as a kid. Anyway i'll be carrying on with the trade collection of them, even though the stories arent canon anymore thanks to Infinite and Final crisis its still nice to be able to follow Superman from some kind of a beginning. Paj! Posted April 27, 2010 Share Posted April 27, 2010 Just caught up with Justice League from the Blackest Night tie-ins up to the present, and am actually enjoying the new team. When I saw the pics I was underwhelmed, as it felt too inconcsice, and basically just full of Teen Titans. But it's written enjoyably, and nothing the fact it's so disconnected. I liked how Green Lantern and Black Canary were talking amongst themselves in the meetings. Felt like a nice (correct) touch, as they're the only two old timers there (apart from Atom). Stark may not remember what happened during Civil War anymore but it doesnt change the fact that he pretty much just used Peter during all of that and there was never really a confrontation after that. The art is my favourite thing and I love how the story is genuinely funny, but moving as well. I don't get the (relative) hate, other than the fact it's not the same thing as the first one. Which is hardly something to criticise, it arrived 20 years later and is responding to a different society/politics etc. I actually lol'd at some of the random Tv presenters; the crazy manga one that appears for no reason, and the one near the end called Clyt, wearing one of those full burka things. I know Supes is currently on New Krypton, and Mon-El is effectively the current Supes, but I don't know much more than that. Starting reading Young Justice from the start. I loved this comic when I was younger...and it's still very entertaining. I love it's knowing humour, and how it points out how annoying it is when people spraff on about their powers as if no one knew, just like what happens everytime Chris Claremont writes a comic nowadays. The main series- ie the stand alone issues that make up the central plot- are all collected in a single trade that you can grab for peanuts online. It's pretty cool, too. the wider Civil War conflict is covered in special issues and tie ins that ran alongside the main book in the solo series' and team books over the same period. Obviously, that's alot more stuff. depends on how much you want to read, really. The end fight against Whiplash is way way way way way too short. Apart from that it was awesome. Jesus Christ I need to see the deleted scenes of Black Widow/Natasha. Literally actually too sexy. It's lovely. For some reason Black Canary's costume really annoys my eyes. It's her padded one for when she didn't have her canary cry, so it makes sense she'd focus more on protection and pockets for gadgets and stuff, but the concept of being agile and lithe in that outfit creates a really jarring feeling in my head. ^ That one.
