Fierce_LiNk Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 Well thats it most people know that playstation and xbox brands mostly cater for the 18-30 male gamer. Totally disagree with that statement, especially with regards to the Playstation brand.
mcj metroid Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 Well, it's one of those things. I saw this before with the 'Cube, people said well it isn't a kiddy console, it's got Resident Evil, Hitman, Eternal Darkness... but it doesn't matter. You can list a load of stuff like that but it makes no difference. 360 gets a game like Lost Planet, and the Wii gets a game like Eledees. That's how many people see it unfortunately. i really think people are changing though.18s games used to be a novelty.OMG lots of blood and they always used to sell well.now it turns out there are actually far nore 18s games than kids games.i mean how many kids games can you name on 360 and can you actually name one on ps3? I have no problem with deweys adventure and eledees(except the name)
ZeldaFreak Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 Excitetruck, Disaster and Project Hammer also. What do we know about project hammer and disaster( wasn't created by nintendo themselves though). And by all accounts excitetruck is an average game. Totally disagree with that statement, especially with regards to the Playstation brand. Well most of my mates don't have any females playing games. Its an observation thats all. And thats how you end of with pure classic gaming moments -God of War/Gears of War those sort of games. Yes Singstar is on the ps2 so women played it. I can't name anyone of my friends sisters that have actually played this game on the ps2 though.
DCK Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 That's how many people see it unfortunately.True, but you were talking about developers and not about the general public. I expect the developers have better insight in the industry. @ ZeldaFreak: Fierce was aiming that your 18-30 year old audience for the PlayStation was inaccurate. In fact, the PS2's main market was teens, I'll show you a link some time - those have the most time to actually play games.
Fierce_LiNk Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 Well every friend of mine don't have their mums/sisters/daughters playing games on those consoles. Its all about the male gamer. And thats how you end of with pure classic gaming moments -God of War/Gears of War those sort of games.[/Quote] I think that's a bit narrow-minded, imo. Sorry to say this, but if we continue with this view, gaming will always be stuck in the dark ages. So you can only have classic gaming moments with other male gamers? You are wrong, and I will not be the only one to say this to you. Start up a thread asking about classic Wii moment, and I can guarantee that it will be full of replies similar to "playing Wii Sports with my Dad." Yes Singstar is on the ps2 so women played it. I can't name anyone of my friends sisters that have actually played this game on the ps2 though. So you're friend's sisters are representing the entire non-male (non)gaming population, then?
ZeldaFreak Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 Well I don't know any non gamers who actually like the wii. They just say gaming is stupid. If you give them a wiimote or a ds they think its stupid.
Fierce_LiNk Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 Well I don't know any non gamers who actually like the wii. They just say gaming is stupid. If you give them a wiimote or a ds they think its stupid. I think Wii Sports really is one of the titles you use to show off the system, what the remote can do, etc. Seriously, place a Wiimote in their hand, get a game of tennis or bowling up, and you're away. I managed to get my uncle to have a game of tennis with me, and I honestly don't know when the last time he played a game was. I've always been a bit skeptical about whether or not the Wii actually would interest non-gamers, but once you finally see it in reality, it's like a huge slap across the face. There's something rather special about it all.
Cookyman Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 Wow ZeldaFreak not only do you spout the most shite on this forum your also a sexist git too! Nice, way to go! I actually think he's now trying to get banned on here! He seems to wind everyone up. Not only are most of his opinions deeply flawed but ZeldaFreak tries to make out he's some authority on everything which he cleary isn't. You've got delusions of grandeur ZeldaFreak give us all a break and go play your 360 and flog your Wii find another forum and start again - I'm sure you can wind most of them up too oh in about 5 minutes! Damn shame your Wii's not online would have loved to kick your arse on smash bros lol
fanman Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 Well I don't know any non gamers who actually like the wii. They just say gaming is stupid. If you give them a wiimote or a ds they think its stupid. ZeldaFreak doesn't like nintendo, so nobody else on earth can. I think nintendo are gonna have to close down.
BlueStar Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 Well I'm 25 and the majority of my mates have started getting into DS and Wii games, including non gamers. My girlfriend's nephew and my little sisters mates are all into Xbox and PSPs. I also have great difficulty in accepting that games like Manhunt, GTA and BMX XXX are 'mature' games. I'd say stuff like Phoenix Wright, Trauma Centre and games like Polarium and Picross are more mature than any of them of them in spite of lacking an 18 rating...
Cookyman Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 ZeldaFreak doesn't like nintendo, so nobody else on earth can. I think nintendo are gonna have to close down. Yeah Nintendo are now in ruins thanks ZeldaFreak thanks a lot! Oh wait a minute ZeldaFreak talks crap - Nintendo are ok! Yay!

Damn shame your Wii's not online would have loved to kick your arse on smash bros lol I don't believe I have said anything sexist! And all I'm posting is what I have observed. The only time when videogames will truely become a mass media is when there is one console. Where all games can be played on it. I have a wired ethernet not wireless.
BlueStar Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 Videogames aren't mass media? In spite of being more profitable than the film industry?
Tellyn Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 Well every friend of mine don't have their mums/sisters/daughters playing games on those consoles. Its all about the male gamer. He might be refering to that. EDIT: In response to ZeldaFreak's 'I'm not sexist' post.
Dante Posted February 12, 2007 Author Posted February 12, 2007 ZeldaFreak should think before he post.
ZeldaFreak Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 Videogames aren't mass media? In spite of being more profitable than the film industry? Look at dvd players for instance - I don't know anyone who doesn't have one. Even my gran has one. However not everyone has a game console.
Fierce_LiNk Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 Look at dvd players for instance - I don't know anyone who doesn't have one. Even my gran has one. However not everyone has a game console. Exactly what Nintendo are trying to set out and change.
ZeldaFreak Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 But I personally don't see why a non-gamer would pick up any games console.
fanman Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 I don't believe I have said anything sexist! And all I'm posting is what I have observed. Having competitors makes them try harder to innovate and improve.
Dante Posted February 12, 2007 Author Posted February 12, 2007 But I personally don't see why a non-gamer would pick up any games console. I mean nothing. How about for fun?
Fierce_LiNk Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 But I personally don't see why a non-gamer would pick up any games console. I mean nothing. It's like movies or books, games are a form of entertainment. If you can find enjoyment from a game, then it's all the more reason to play. Nintendo are just trying to address why non-gamers are not picking up games. Firstly, there's always been a stigma around gaming. It's always seen as geeky, or something that only teenage boys should be associated with. Then, they're looking at the type of games. If I'm honest, I don't see many non-gamers playing a 40 hour long epic, but I do honestly see them playing something like Wario Ware for 5 or 10 minutes a day. Nintendo is addressing the 'types' of games that are available for this crowd. Wii Sports and Brain training are two very good examples. Thirdly, input device. Many people are put off by the amount of buttons there are on a game controller. A good example of this, although not the same, is when your mother tries to type on a keyboard. I really wish that somebody would have shot me. So, they address this by creating an input device that requires minimum use of buttons. Rather than scrolling down with the analogue stick to an option, you just point with the stylus or wiipoint. It's very intuitive. So, we have games, which are content. We have input device, which is ease of use. Now, they just need to change the image of gaming. To do that, advertising.
DCK Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 But I personally don't see why a non-gamer would pick up any games console. I mean nothing. A non-gamer is not someone who doesn't like games per definition. Non-gamers are people who have never given games much thought because they never got in touch with them that much, and therefore they don't play games - hence the name non-gamer. Non-gamers can become interested in for example, a Wii, if you introduce them to games that really are just fun, playful games like Wii Tennis, and not something gorey and scary like Quake IV because the fun in that is very hard to understand for someone not used to those games.
Cookyman Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 I mean nothing. Yeah most of your posts mean nothing - all this attention seeking behaviour but not to worry ZeldaFreak Therapy is coming out on DS you can rid yourself of your inner demons and hopefully bring some constructive input to this forum!
BlueStar Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 In my opinion, to people from the he outside looking in, it's stuff like Gears Of War which is why games appear to be for kids rather than nintendo style stuff.
ZeldaFreak Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 Yeah most of your posts mean nothing - all this attention seeking behaviour but not to worry ZeldaFreak Therapy is coming out on DS you can rid yourself of your inner demons and hopefully bring some constructive input to this forum! Where did you get that quote from -you made it up sheesh! But Honestly there is nothing that interests me on the wii at this point. Apart from Brawl, and thats it. Really should nintendo forget about the people who would likely buy around 10 games per month. And I'm not even worth their custom.
