i just loaded up resident evil for the GNC on my wii, and it looks crap i mean mega crap, the colors look all saturated and blurry and jaggies every where btw i am using my the wii component cable to connect the wii to my 32inch HDTV and it works flawlessly with wii games and super mario 64,

so my question is does resident evil look crap for every body else?

why does every thing looked so jaggie, did Nintendo skimp on the AA features on the wii?

Did the GC support component cables? That might be why. Also HD wasn't even invented I think when the GC was out and Resi was made.

i think your right, i'll try resi 4 which has progressive scan support so that should make it look better

Is this thread host to some sort of humour, sarcasm or anything of the sorts? Resi REmake for the NGC looks like a PS1 game? I mean, this has to be some advanced form of sarcasm or irony that my brain is failing to comprehend. I have that game and it looks pretty much photorealistic.

... on a regular standard tv. On a high definition tv with a crap cable, it looks like a load of arse.

Odd. I played Resident Evil Remake on my Wii with a HD LCD TV only a couple of days ago using RGB, and it looks fine to me. Didn't notice any differences when played on GC. Still looks mighty impressive to me, even when spoiled by the visual delights of Ghost Recon: AW, Gears of War, and the like.

Resident Evil 4 looks stunning, as ever. ;)

That's odd, well REmake doesn't support 480p so that may be a contributor to the jagginess.

I assume that you've already turned the sharpness down on your HDTV (since your other Wii games look fine), I know I did!

But then again, REmake never had any Anti Aliasing and always suffered from horrible pixilation anyway. It's just that playing it on a HDTV amplifies the issue even more.

The situation here is that even if you have component cables, PAL Cube games don't normally* support progressive mode at all. Wii doesn't force GC PAL games into prog mode, so basically CompSci's television runs it in interlaced mode.

I'm assuming that most of guys are wondering why why interlaced games actually look so bad on most HD-TVs? I'm not by any means expert in these issues, but most HD-TVs have native resolution of 720p, and can't go lower than that. If something outputs 480i or 576i signal, it is simply upscaled into 720p. How good is the quality of the conversion depends on your television, but most just do it just pretty badly resulting in rather ugly picture (this is even true with more expensive models). More recent HD-TVs (like Sony's Bravia line) often have far better upscaling chips, that results in picture quality that is hardly indistinguishable from 480i signal.

* QooB modchip could force your Cube output progressive on PAL-games.

I played Resi on my HDTV downstairs on GC a few months ago and it looks like a PSone game.

Overexaggeration is always pretty stupid thing to do. You should really try to play some PSOne games with your HD-television and then say how bad RE4 really looks. :p

LOL I meant the remake, and I suppose it make it look more Dreamcast like.

Hmm, thats strange. Apparently (according to 3rdChildren) some games look great and actually force 480p out of PAL games, such as Wind Waker and Metroid Prime.

Maybe REmake never had progressive support in any territory?

On most "HD" tv's, everything below 720p looks crap. Lcd's just plain suck. Always those annoying swimming pixels. I'd never buy anything less than a plasma, and even then I'd totally rather wait for laser tv's or SED to come out.

Contrast ration of 100.000 - 1

Beat that lcd!

Of course HD was invented, to say that is a bit silly ;) It certainly wasn't cheap enough for public consumption.

Ultra high definition already has been invented but the chances are we will not see it in our living rooms for another 25 years, because of problems being able to broadcast the huge amount of data, and obviously the price of UHD TV's will be enormous!

Yeah, I mean REmake had CRAP graphics, what an ugly game...

Stupid comments like this make me so mad, it's one of the best looking games I've ever played, and I don;t care how crap you are at configuring your TV, it doesn't look like a PSoNE game.

strange my resident evil 4 game looks awful on hd too with componenet and all(though to be fair it looks a bit better with it)

RE4 is one of those rare cases where blurriness of interlaced mode does clearly hide graphical faults such as jaggy edges. :)
