But the laser spins the opposite way NOT.

yeah just like the gamecube it spins the other way round to a common CD/DVD Writer so therefore it reads the other way round, so unless people find somewhere of writing it to like this just ain't gonna work.

hmm. it may be possible to hack vc games and load them from sd card. who knows.

It was actually possible on firmware 0, that accidentally was still on few US launch wiis. Most launch Wii's did already have fix that closed the hole, and even those that didn't were quickly fixed when user went net for first time.

It could be true, it could be not, we'll see on New Year's day... >_<

It's not. Similar video appeared about three weeks ago, and was quickly proven false. It's just so goddamn easy to gather attention by putting crap like this on the Youtube. Furthermore, video has been edited. You can notice few fades and sections where clip changes. Really shoddy work. Plus if this would be true, it would be extremely easy to block via firmware update.

And this means its fake? It most likely is, but its only a matter of time before someone hacks the Wii; if this guy didnt manage it them maybe the next one will...

How many times do people have to be told that the GC drive doesn't spin discs "the other way"?

Edit: Time to change signature!! Not waiting for Wii anymore! Thanks Amazon!

How the "it spins the other way" legend kept going when you could see just by opening the GC lid that it was bollocks is beyond me. GameCube backups don't have the be written backwards either, for what it's worth.

As for the "exploit", saw it about a fortnight ago and it'd be easy to fake. No way of telling one way or the other from a zoomed in youtube quality video.

So don't update the firmware. Or update it, and crack it again.

anyway if its cracked homebrew could be loaded off sd, since you can get 8 gig sd's you could easily load wii games off them.

Im not 100% sure, but I think that the SD cards/reader would be way too slow to play Wii games off...

That's fake. The guy has another wii connected to the tv. It's impossible to run code from a jpg, and Wii doesn't even read all the JPEG types. You have to put channels on Wii's memory to run them... This excluding technical details like the disc spinning the other way.

If you get to run other roms on the virtual console, then maybe you can do some wicked exploits, but not using photos :|

Maybe this video is fake. But one of the most important exploits for running homebrew code on PSP was through an tiff exploit, in the image viewer...

Today hundreds of PSP's will say hello to the world as they run their first piece of homebrew - the "Hello World" application. This will be made possible by a new exploit found that does not require one to own a copy of Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories, but rather load a simple image off of your memory stick. This remarkable demonstration can be executed on 2.0, 2.01, 2.50, 2.60, 2.70, 2.71, and 2.80 firmwares!

Personally, I won't be surprised if someone figures out a real image exploit along these lines.

I think thats bollox about the Gamecube reading discs in the opposite direction!

If that was the case then it wouldn't be possible to play normal sized DVD discs via mod-chip!

One of the reasons you can't copy Gamecube or Wii games is because of the barcode in the leadin(TOC) area of the disc. Basicly that means when your pc drive tries to read the disc it won't be able to because the barcode makes the laser unable to read the rest of the disc. For those people not in the know the cd/dvd drive as to read the centre of the disc first so that it knows where to read on the disc. That area of the disc is called the Table of Contents area (TOC) also know as the leadin, basicly it tells the dvd/cd drive where the data is on the disc.

Sorry for rambling on. But do you understand?
