  1. The Lost Room

We got drawn into it too. We watched the first episode at a friend's house and got hooked. It's a shame there aren't more of these types of programmes and less dial-a-quiz-show ones.
  2. Charlie Brooker? A Wii Fan?

How DARE he hate Macs? Didn't he see Mitchell and Webb destroying their artistic integrity to tell us how cool Macs are? Doesn't he know that questioning Macs just emboldens the enemy? Brooker has clearly committed thought-crimes, and must be sent to room 101 to make him see the beauty and righteousness of the glorious Mac.
  3. I'm 32 years old. I play computer games. Until this year I had the proud status of Nerd. Of Geek. When people met me by the water cooler at work: I told them about how I played Four Swords with some friends last night. I was special. Then the DS took over. My mother-in-law is now better than I am at Nintendogs agility events. She's managed to get Joey's pic in Animal crossing in her first month of owning the game, and I'm still trying three months after he moved into my town. And then there's the Wii. I was discussing Wii Sports bowling with the landlord of my local pub last night. A guy we know who until last month professed that he'd "rather drink Budweiser than play Playstation" has ordered a Wii because "well, it's cool playing tennis properly". Since when do these people play video games? I used to be special because I liked computer games. Nintendo has spoiled it.
  4. Multiplayer on Wario Ware?

scubahood's post wasn't just suffering from a typo - it really was drunken Wiimote posting.
  5. Multiplayer on Wario Ware?

So as well as not being able to post in an appropriate place, you also can't construct a simple English sentence. Maybe you should stop playing Wii and concentrate on the three Rs...
  6. Ugly Betty

No sir, didn't like it. The wife did. Guess I'll be watching it.
  7. New Wii Media Player

It's such a shame Pandora.com doesn't work on the Wii - it crashes the browser
  8. Power Consumption?

Those numbers meant little to me, but the comparison in the article was interesting. Compared to other appliances it does seem pretty efficient:
  9. Your first game

The first game I bought was Killer Bees on the Phillips G7000. Anyone else ever heard of the G7000?
  10. Very impressed with the Wii remote

Just cut some grass with your Wiimote, some magic is bound to turn up in little green vials.
  11. Wii Hacked?

That would be soooooo cool! If this is true, the Wii will go the same way as the Dreamcast! WOOT!!!!
  12. Is it impossible to review Wii games?

Yeah... but it is because of the radical new motion-sensing technology of the Wii, or... erm... that you can position each hand as you want, without them both being on the same controller? Come on, in the main controls, the "motion-sensing" comes down to "shake the Wiimote, it's like pressing the B button to attack in the GC version". You aim arrows with the analogue stick. Outside of the fishing, it seems to me that the Wii offers little over the GC version. It's a great game alright, but the Wii controls are late-in-the-day add-ons. Of course they are: the game was a GC game they messed with to promote the Wii launch. It's going to be a year or so until we see games that really start to use the Wii controller properly, or the WiiConnect24 for that matter. There will be great games in the meantime, but like all machines it takes time for the real potential to come out. Remember the GC started with Luigi's Mansion, and ended with Resident Evil 4; the Spectrum went from Manic Miner to Head Over Heals. Were that it was true. You aim your bow with the nunchuck's analogue control stick. (He who aims with his wiimote has forgotten the face of his father). The only button freed up is the attack button, as there's only one Wiimote gesture. Once again, I expect great stuff from the Wiimote's gesture control. Just not yet. Christmas 2007 it's all light-sabers, magic wands, cricket bats, conducting orchestras, &c. While we're waiting there may be some great games, but don't try and tell me they're using the Wiimote to its full extent.
  13. Wii Friend Codes Thread

I've still got space in my address book for anyone whose Miis are mingling. Send me a private message when you add me so I can add you too. My Wii number is: 3366 5943 2444 3128
  14. Suggest A Thread

Thread: Are you wearing the wrist strap? Being an experienced gamer I knew I wasn't going to need it. Then I played Wii Sports...
  15. Your Wow Wii Moments Thread

Wow moment: When I turned it on, and it didn't ask me to point the Wiimote at the top left of the screen then press A, then point my Wiimote at the bottom right of the screen and press A, then point my Wiimote at the target in the centre of the screen and press A.
  16. Wii Friend Codes Thread

The Miis of Gilead would like to mingle!
  17. European Wii Preorders

I've had my Wii pre-ordered from GAME in Oxford Street since September. I checked in today just to check things are still a-OK to turn up on the 8th and get my Wii. They are not. Oh they've got a console reserved for me. No problem there, they'll take my £180 and I can have a Wii. But if I want a game to play on it, or a second controller so I can play Wii Sports with my wife, things are much more complicated. The staff at GAME implied they have fewer games than consoles, and even fewer accessories. I was advised by staff that if I wanted a game for my Wii, I should turn up for the midnight release, because they weren't expecting to have any games left by the morning. So either I turn up at midnight and have to find a taxi that goes south of the river after the tube has closed (GAME staff informed me that GAME would not consider helping customers to get home safely. GAME is happy to see its customers mugged once they leave the store, apparently), or I turn up on the 8th and have to hunt around town to find somewhere to get a game to play on the thing. Thanks GAME.
  18. Videogames under attack...again!

It's more like a kid watching an 18 DVD at home. If you run a cinema, or video arcade, you are responsible for ensuing that people who are too young to see/play aren't allowed to. In people's homes the people responsible are the parents or guardians. If the product is labeled 18 then it's up to parents/guardians to asses whether they think their kids should be watching/playing the movie/game. Better still the parents/guardians could actually take a bleeding interest in what their kids get up to, rather than assuming someone else will be there to protect their kids.
  19. Videogames under attack...again!

Remember kids, it's the computer games that are bad. When Jack Bower tortures someone on TV, that's OK. When US and UK troops torture terror suspects in real life, that's OK. But woe betide anyone who reads about it or plays a computer game where it gets mentioned.
  20. Age

I was referring to your use of "apologizing", not your original correction of my post.
  21. Age

I'll question them if they start using American spelling!
  22. books

If we're doing recommendations... can I suggest the The Illuminatus! Trilogy by Robert Shea and Robert Anton Wilson, and V for Vendetta by Alan Moore.
  23. Age

Hmm, you may well be right. Despite my pedantry I'm no grammatical expert, and when I tried to look it up online I found all sorts of very complicated arguments I didn't understand. I'll certainly agree it sounds better with 'are' than 'is'. So I stand corrected.
  24. Wii showcase videos

If he's not much of a gamer I don't think you're going to convince him with videos. Why not point out you're going to get a new console anyway, and it's much cheaper to get a Wii than a PS3, and it even uses less electricity! Plus the Wii's remote makes you active while you play games, rather than just sat still on the couch. Finally, after all, it's your own money and you can do what you want with it!
  25. Age

The "is" is referring to "the majority", which is singular. So while it should be "most of the members are..." it should be "the majority is...".
