Actually, while I agreed with the people who were saying it was because the Wii and old Apples both used PowerPC 750s, it's actually not, as the Opera browser on Wii doesn't tell web sites what CPU it is running on. Here's what I mean, this is the User-Agent that Firefox 2.0.1 gives to websites on my Intel-Based Macbook: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X; en-US; rv:1.8.1.1) Gecko/20061204 Firefox/2.0.0.1. And here's what the Wii browser's User-Agent is: Opera/9.00(Nintendo Wii; U; 1309-9; en) As you can see, the Wii browser doesn't say anything about it's processor, while on OS X it does. I can't believe I was the only person who thought to post these results, here you can see for yourself: http://www.ccp4.ac.uk/djr/browser.php

Someone should start some sort of campaigne, this is the sort of thing which average joe will have no idea about

So far I'm pretty impressed, although I'd like to see at least some of the following: * Better scrolling. I.e. using the d-pad and/or pressing A and B to drag the page around. * Clipboard. Copy and Paste. * Tabs. * Maybe they could use the nunchuk for something, I.e. instead of having to go to the start page and having to click WWW to type an address, just press Z or C. Does the 2 button remove CSS?

Actually, holding down F12 will efect whatever's in the drive. Also, and I can't confirm this, but I think there's a little hole to the side of most new Mac's disc drives whic, when you insert a pin into it, forces anything in the drive out. Actually, the new Power Mac is one of the fastest computers you can buy. I think that the Core 2 Duo iMacs are pretty powerful compared to the average PC, too. And I just tried Wii Sports in my iMac, and it just ejected it back out when I put it in.

Nope, I checked

I bought one of those today, definitely a good buy in my opinion. Works in 480p and looks amazing, but even when playing Gamecube games in 480i it's a definite improvement in colour and quality. EDIT: And incase anyone was wondering, turns out you do actually plug the audio cables into the Composite audio-in on my TV, seems odd but it works fine, just a shame I can't plug anything Composite in now.

I've noticed an interesting problem with my Wii: I just bought a GAMEware Component cable and it works amazingly well in all my Wii and Gamecube games, but for some reason now my Virtual Console games won't play. I click on DKC for example, and the screen just goes blank and the channel number comes up on my TV, as if there is no signal. Then when I press the Home button the screen comes back and I can see the game in the background, but when I press it again to get out of the menu, the screen goes blank again. Also whenever I try to play a VC game the Wii seems to take itself out of 480p and leave itself into 60Hz 480i, even although it's a PAL Wii which should run at 50Hz I thought. Any Ideas?

Windows Vista is not a rip off of Mac OS X
Jackster replied to Dog-amoto's topic in General Chit Chat
Yeah, and I agree it's a very good cause and I hope it will change the world for the better, but it's not software developers they're giving to is it? I've heard MS have been working with the Firefox guys, but the only thing I've heard to actually come out of it is that MS agreed to use Firefox's RSS logo. As for the kernel, it's a kernel which has been tried and tested for years and already has lots of tools available for it, including some great software development tools and system admin tools. It helps Apple in that they don't have to spend millions on creating a brand new kernel from scratch and instead they get an already excellent kernel, and it helps FreeBSD because it will increase the amount of support for it, especially now that Apple uses x86 CPUs, the Terminal and X11 based software should be pretty compatible between the two. -

It's not 'stolen' and it's not Linux. Apple used FreeBSD cose in their Darwin kernel, but unlike Microsoft who never give anything back, Apple contributes improvements they make to Open Source software that they use (FreeBSD and KHTML spring to mind) back to the original project. For example, Konqueror (the web browser used in KDE, based on KHTML) can now display the ACID 2 W3C Compliancy test fine because of changes Apple made to Safari and contributed back to them. -
I think that while the current Wii titles look like Gamecube games, we do have to remember that developers were actually told by Nintendo to practically make Gamecube games with the Wii Remote instead of Gamecube Controller for the Wii Launch, I'm guessing this is maybe because Nintendo were still playing with the hardware configuration up to the last minute. I think we can all assume that the next wave of games will look much better.

Think back to the previous generation for a few seconds, and ask yourself: a) Which console had the least horsepower b) Which console came first in the console war Maybe that will answer your question

Since the Wii emulates the Gamecube almost exactly when playing Gamecube games, that means there is no: *Home Button *Online Play *LAN Play *Gameboy Player But apart from those, it seems to be perfect from games I've tested, I've even heard that the clock in AC works.

That's the problem I don't have surround so I don't know how to set up DPL2
-
Hey, I was just wondering that since it seems my TV doesn't have any Audio Inputs for Component I'm gonna need a new sound setup, so would DPL2 be an option with the two audio Component cables? I'm not really sure if it would, since I think Component only has L and R audio channels. DPL2 is like 5.1 sound isn't it? How would I go about setting that up from my Wii to the Speakers?
-
Here's some pictures, as you can see there are three Composite inputs (which my Wii is plugged into) and right infront of them are three Component inputs, and there's a little guide on the back casing of the TV which labels these as Y, Pb and Pr. The TV is a JVC LT-26A61SJ
-
I thought the last two would be for audio. So what do I do for sound since I only have the 3 video inputs? I'm guessing maybe the audio would go into the Composite since it's Red and White?
-
Hey, I was just looking at the back of my TV and there are three Component Inputs, Y, Pb and Pr, but I've seen pictures of the component cable and from what I remember there are more than three cables. This make sense to anyone?

I'd love it if the next Zelda showed off the Wii's real power, y'know, like what Resident Evil 4 was for Gamecube. I would especially like to see sharper textures. What's the problem with the music in Twighlight Princess? It sounds really good to me, would orchestrated music really add all that much to the game?

This might have been answered already, so sorry if there's already an answer out there. My parents are getting a new TV for the living room, so I'm getting the one that's already in there. It's a 26" LCD TV by JVC and it doesn't have a gaming mode, and I was just wondering why people seem to not like LCDs for gaming? Will whatever problems there could be be solved by using Component Cables and 480p or will there still be some problems? Thanks

Thread: How much would you pay for DVD Playback? Just wondering if people would actually be willing to buy a whole new Wii with a whole other £179.99 just to get DVD Playback when they already have a DVD Player, and whether they would buy the DVD Playback if it was released as a dongle or through Wii Ware.

For everyone asking about the update, as far as I know the first update activates the SD Card management, and the second one activates Parental COntrol and fixes the Wii Shop internet hack.

I just used my Nintendo VIP email address and password
