Zelda delayed to Autumn and Rev confirmed for 2006
Innovance replied to penic99's topic in Nintendo Gaming
A couple of people have touched on it but i think the point is to have Zekda:TP as a quasi-launch title for rev. Lol yeh i know im stating the obvious but, isnt TP meant to be nintendos most expensive game ever or something to that effect?? Saying its still a GC game gives them an excuse to get away without having true next gen visuals (spending more money), because if they take the time to upgrade the graphics and everything properly (to both rev and zelda quality) it probably wont come out till late 2007 It also means cube owners unsure of rev can still play it on their current GC while they decide whether or not to get a Rev. But whatever happens TP is more than likely going to be a must have game for both GC and Rev, which is only a good thing for nintendo I just hope it doesnt feel like playing OOT again, that was my problem with WW id felt that "magic" before, the great thing about Majora's mask was it felt like a different game, and im hoping TP manages to feel like its own game too -
New interview with Mark Rein of Epic games.
Innovance replied to DiemetriX's topic in Nintendo Gaming
If you look at his quote then he really hasn't changed his position, those are still the important things to him. I wonder if his views are truly representive of epic though -
i had hoped they do an rpg for the single player. i dunno how it would have worked, but a decent nintendo themed rpg, with a decent story and they keep the rest of the currently available modes of play witg added wi-fi functionality and your looking at one pretty good package

yes it is being over hyped. A lot of the people saying that PS3 and x360 arent next gen because they lack a new way to play are some of the worst offenders, to both themselves and others in my opinion The freehand controller is far from a solution to the problems that nintendo and others within the industry have identified. At best it merely restarts the cycle. But to claim the rev the only next generation console for the new controller is putting far too high an expectation on the controller. Moreso when you consider that even if nintendo makes the controller perfect the main limiting factor of current controllers still remains, that being the developer. Remeber there are plenty of developers who still havent perfected using 8 buttons and 2 analogue stick

I dont think nintendo had to innovate to continue to be a part of the market, the 'innovation' came as need/want to expand their market potential beyond its current limits I have to disagree, the home console arena is exactly where they are trying to stay, and in theory they have the market all to themselves. They are positioning it the same way they positioned GC as a (almost) pure game machine. The difference is their targeted userbase. They are trying to look beyond current gamers, seeking to create their own userbase (market) of new and old gamers, while co-existing within their competitors userbases of current gamers (secondary console) and still catering to their core fans as well. Pretty ambitious.

Im not saying your wrong but your opinion is from the viewpoint of a current gamer. But to non gamers and gamers that have perhaps got tired of their once favourite passtime you have to realize that the prospect of a game that takes 20 - 40 hours to complete is intimidating But a game that is easy to get into, and doesnt threaten to eat a good chunk of your life and is most importantly, fun to play will be far more appealing to them - well thats the idea. But those games arent really aimed at you, amd third parties will likely (hopefully) bring traditional content to rev so there should content to satisfy all users - in theory for now anyway
-
No i think your wrong there, and and i think the big A button on the gc pad is one of the earliest indications of the path that nintendo are heading down now. It started with GC, they realized their mistakes with N64 and tryed to change "It will be cheaper and more developer friendly" did we not hear that with GC?? Are we not still hearing it with rev? Again the GC pad was designed to be more intutive the main game function mapped to the 'A' with the lesser functions elsewhere. We heard about the desire for shorter more pick and play titles before the announcement of revolution and we saw it in games like warioware and donkey kong jungle beat. Their focus on the controller is really their focus on the user experience and their attempt at differentiation from their competitors, as opposed to getting drawn into a graphic or spec battle that apparently would lose But the philosophy/thinking/aims of revolution started on GC and the controller is merely an extension of that philosophy not (entirely) the cause of it Revolution is interesting (to me) because it is both an evolution and an attempt at restarting from the beginning. That is something people miss revolution doesnt solve any of the problems with current / next gen staleness it is merely attempting to restart the cycle in different ways
-
Some good points here, i also agree rev is just GC2 anyway, they have carried over that same thinking they started with GC and have refined it. People seem to forget nintendo played the power game before with the N64, and they lost (figuratively speaking of course) As far as revs power goes, ive now come to the conclusion that they are simply making it powerful enough. We never know we may get more realistic looking games on Rev. It has to be said sony and microsoft made life easier for rev as well at least initially had their machines power gone into making games at 480p rev may have been in a different battle graphically, as it is now developers are going to truly take advantage of 480p + extra power so rev has a smaller bridge to cross

If anything the freehand controller should be used for movement of the character, but personally i want classic controls when i come to play smash brothers. That said i do also want a 2d platformer using just the freehand controller, but thats for a different thread i guess I want to be able to use oni link And no more clone characters of the ganondorf variety, he really should have had his own unique move set

you obviously misunderstand my comparison. Pixar like nintendo create products that while outwordly "appear" to be aimed at kids can be easily enjoyed by every member of the family if given a chance. I remember walking into Monsters Inc thinking i cant believe i have to watch this kids film, then came out having thoroughly enjoyed the film and also realizing it was a film that could be enjoyed by people far older than I, and that was one of the intentions of the film to be accessible to a wide audience of vastly ranging ages. Frankly i dont subscribe to the belief that nintendo has lost touch with gamers, gamers just got bored/tired of them (among other things), and nintendo just needs to find way to spark interest again, which is what they are trying to do with rev and isnt 'cars' pixars last film with disney?
-
At this moment in time, when they are working so hard to keep so much of the console secret, its understandable that they wouldn't be so revealing with independant developers. Heck if i had the time and resources i'd try to claim i was making an independant game and required further knowledge of the intracacies of revolution I also wonder does "industrial espionage" (i think thats the right term) really occur and to what legnths would companies go to find out what their competitors were up to?
-
Nintendo are like Pixar. A lot of people just dont get it, and sony and microsoft wont allow them them to either (that is to say do the best to promote the kids only image)
-
I think i just witnessed a crime, the poor english language lmao the 'catch' sorry i dont usually talk about peoples spelling grammar or punctuation, but i think in this case people will be able to see where im coming from
-
thats what you get if you take everything at face value. Even just reading it you can tell there are things that reggie doesnt actually know about and things that he does and can't talk about but gives clear hints too. You also have to remember that for the most part the answers he gives will have been thought as opposed to just thrown off the top of his dome Its funny sometimes peole read too deeply into what nintendo and their reps are saying and other times people just dont think deep enough about it

Nintendo News | Microsoft Manager Knocks Revolution Online
Innovance replied to Nintendo Fan's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Frankly hes far too cocky. All the competition has to do is offer a competent free service and live is already undermined. Not to mention the fact that the competition cant ignore live so that will be their target whther they admit it or not, how are microsoft going to survive? How are they going to justify paying for Live. In all likeliness those comments will comeback to haunt him -
Sega acuatlly hasnt done as well as you would expect after having gone multiformat,
-
Just out of interest can you name one successful company that has survived purely on marketshare, while selling all their products and services at a loss?? The reason microsoft and sony tout their marketshare is purely because to the average person it implies they are earning a while lot more money than nintendo. Its the same as saying we've shipped 90 million the average person assumes it to mean they have sold 90 million. Sadly its not just the average person as publishers fall for that rubbish too, but i wont go into that
-
Profit doesnt equal success??? Even microsoft wont agree with you there as they have spoken plenty of times about becoming profitable this generation. In a way your right GC wasnt as successful as nintendo had nintendo had intended it to be, so they and only they can call it a failure, yet even that is impressive, how many companies can sell 19 million units of their most profitable product and still have grounds to call it a failure?? This is a serious question id really like to know the answer to. But in the grand scheme of things do you think microsoft would hesitate to swap positions with nintendo, in terms of sales vs profit?? Do you think they believe the extra 4 million worldwide truly justified a $4 billion loss?? Sure they have the market perception but if that was all they were after, and was the true measure of success, they wouldnt be working so hard to try and become profitable But i have to ask if profit doesnt equal success what does???
-
Considering rev a failure if it doesnt outsell GC, does not neccesarily make either machine a failure. This whole thread is based on the misperception that marketshare is equal to profits. Its not! there were 2 failures this gen, the dreamcast and the xbox, nintendo's comments merely show they are not satisfied with GCs performance not that it was a failure. That comes mostly from they would have stood to make a more money had the GC performed better, as it was/is their most profitable machine

I hope you dont misunderstand me, im not trying to say your wrong or anything, because your probably not (im assuming you are talking 2 different versions of kill bill) But there are other contributing factors as well, such as screen size (which is the whole reason behind HD) distance from the screen, wires, resolution the movie was shot in, resolution it was edited in etc etc Again am not saying your wrong, but im just saying there are other factors that can enhance and detract from the gains. So in a slightly different situation, the difference may not have ended up being as jaw dropping, or it could have ended up being more impressive. I just wanted to make you aware that there was more than just HD that went into making the higher res version look impressive
-
Ill say it again that is an incorrect comparison. If you want to compare properly you need 2 copies of the same game, one created specifically for 720p and one created specifically for 480p. The reason is because a game will look best at the resolution it was designed for. That means if you took a 480p game and increased the resolution to 720p (the reverse of the comparison of 360 on sd and hd tvs) the game will still look best at 480p. Not to mention all the little differences caused by tv size and your viewing distance from the TV as well. My point is we dont really know how good or bad the graphics on rev will look. And we CAN NOT use the x360 on sdtv as our indicator because it is far from accurate. Furthermore i dont have the link but if you go look at what julian eggrebecht said about HD vs SD. There are some very real advantages that SD has over HD that will probably allow nintendo to remain competitive Last point if developers failed to utilize the power of gamecube which was "easy to develop" for and had one of the most grapahically impressive titles of this generation at launch, then what is going to happen next gen??? I will agree with you that people should stop nagging BigTac
-
You should actually be happy it s a multiplatform game. But i understand where you coming from
-
i really dont get what you mean by this. have you seen the revs graohics? are you saying its impossible for us to get a 480p equivalent of gears of war? Bearing in mind that nintendos statement of it will be no notable difference between the competition and rev on an SDTV is a very vague statement and could go either way.
-
I thought they said they had no interest in competing in that space, because they already ha the mobile (phone) os space?? itll be interesting to see how they approach the market. But the way the PSP is doing i can see this taking a lot of money from them again if they really want it to be a viable gaming platform
-
Nope they initially sold it at a $10 loss, it was in an article dont remember which one but reggies was saying they did it for the the customers.
