  1. Also dont forget that it also limits the intial losses they make on the system. I personally think that tis is why Sony and MS have shortages. Imagine, MS are losing something like $50 - $100 per machine (im guessing here for examples sake) on every machine sold, then they go and sell 3 million of them in a month. And that gets added to the 4 billion they already lost last gen and you now see the real reason for a shortage at launch. I also expect shortages at the PS3 launch as they will be in a similar situation. The marketing spin of "we sold out" is purely a bonus
  2. People say the most illogical things sometimes. The power of the machine is NOT going to hurt it. It just means developers will have to spend some time downgrading AND polishing it for rev. It does not mean that because a game was designed for the graphical power and resolution of PS3 it would be impossible to put it on Rev. Have people learned nothing from RE4
  3. Have you tried showing them the trailer from TGS?? Thats probably the best ad that nintendo have ever made. It just simply puts across/implies the functionality and verstility of the controller. Plenty of people (online anyway) have said that after they saw the trailer they "got it" but they were confused/shocked/disappointed before viewing the trailer
  4. check the date he edited his first post
  5. the cube interface was a whole lot better, and that saeems like a step backwards to me
  6. Ya know we've all forgotten people no longer buy consoles exclusively. Nintendo knows this, in fact i think they are counting on it. Nintendo's being pretty ambitious but we have to remember they are aiming to compete by not competing, that makes it a whole lot easier and cheaper for them to come out on top
  7. Thanks. Yeh, i dont know what more developers really need to develop for Revolution, id have thought cheap development costs would have been enticing enough considering the price of PS3 or 360 are rumoured to be.
  8. Why spend money?? Because there are mulitplatform games where the cube version has outsold its counter parts. This is the real reason why i dont believe in the larger userbase reason. Lets think about that the ps2 user base is 5 times larger they have a 90 million userbase to sell to yet the game outperformed it in a smaller market 19 milllion userbase market. I think its happened to sega game mostly not sure about any others, except RE4 though im not sure if that is still true.
  9. I never declared nintendo the winner of the home console market, i merely said the most profitable was the winner, most likely that was sony, it'd be pretty pathetic if they failed to make more money than GC considering they sold like 5 times more consoles Im sorry but your thinking is painfully flawed. Making money screws a company in the long run?? MS frankly were chatting BS. You dont have to lose money to enter the market, Sony didnt and they came out on top in their first generation, and Nintendo are known for NOT losing money on their machines. Gamecube made money from day 1, PS2 is now profitable on the hardware. What excuse can you give me that microsoft HAD to lose money?? Even at its current price point gamecube is Nintendo's most profitable current machine yet its performance is close to that of Xbox. And at the end of the day they only had an extra 4 million sales more than nintendo. was that worth $4 billion?? There is no excuse for the losses microsoft made with the xbox, other than they messed up, and rushed to market too quickly. Nintendo saw their near monopoly was nearly gone??? They lost their monopoly after NES. They could happilly put out another gamecube and still be fine as a company. GC was not a failure, selling 19 million units of your most profitable product is a failure? Its simply not as good as their past sales that is all. While revolution is a response to their diminishing marketshare, it is not a back to the wall reaction. Whether you believe them or not the reasons Nintendo have outlined for creating their revolution are valid and real within the market, and developers have been saying similar things also. Development costs are too high, hardware too complicated and the market is stagnant and doesnt support innovation in the way that it should. Whether they truly address these issues or use them as a convenient excuse doesnt change the fact that those problems are present. And neither sony or microsft are truly addressing them. Meaning there is a genuine space for nintendo to come in and make money uncontested. But yeh my mainpoint is that its a business, marketshare is nothing without the money to show for your efforts that applies even to MS. Otherwise they wouldnt be talking about trying to make profit. With that said i can declare the true winner of this next gen right now. An the Winner is......IBM
  10. I wrote a legnthy piece then i realized id been sucked into the media trap. Microsoft lost the current generation, and im not sure who exactly won out of sony or nintendo but i have a feeling it may have been nintendo. Heres a hint as to how to tell who won: The company that made the most money (as they are all businesses. In terms of hardware sales Sony sold a lot but their figures are hazy. It would be nice if we could have software sales figures to compare to see who truly "won" in that respect. Next gen is again wide open sony have left themselves vulnerable in terms of raw hardware sales (expensive consoles possibly) AND software sales (expensive games). More and more the PS3 begins to look like sonys modern day version of the N64 if i turns out like that then expect similar performance and pplenty of ports away from the the console I personally expect rev to dominate assuming it hits all the aims that nintendo have already laid out for the machine. But its wide open, anyone who believes sony has it looked needs to go look over the history of the video game market, note the rise and falls, note consumer loyalty, note developer loyalty, look out for trends. If it happened, sony's retention of their current position would be the biggest surprise of the next gen for me.
  11. And capcom and konami should make them pay as well. All that talk about PS2 had the the largest user base was pure rubbish, if you truly are trying to release to the largest userbase then you release on all 3 consoles. More insulting was the fact that even with such pathetic excuses xbox was getting verions of these games as well. Not to mention the ever refered to lack of online online?? So hold on!! We've gone from targetting 90 million users and decided to specifically create a game whose design means that at most we will get 2 million sales?? An oversimplification i know but im sure you see the point im making, that is most official excuses for ingoring gamecube were pathetic and made no sense Ingnoring revolution is even worse if it truly is cheap to create games on there.
  12. Dang i guess they had to cave eventually, that said they did take a loss on DS too so i guess they are getting more competitive
  13. Who gives out specs for highly classified consoles over the phone, never mind NDA etc and you not being guaranteed that the person your speaking to is who they say they are. Remeber the eMagin phone call??
  14. Thanks for the info BigTac, i wanted to ask you some questions but it seems like you got a lot to deal with already so ill refrain. revolution games are looking better than current 360 games, thats great to hear to a point, assuming its near the better end of the scale of that comparison, then nintendo will be good for the next gen...
  15. Thats exactly what i was thinking
  16. people do realize those visors are already available now so what do you mean by maybe in 10 years??
  17. Technically, yes but PD failed to evoke the same feelings and fun that goldeneye managed to. Sin and punishment, cant wait to play that game. Its intersting that blast corps and killer instincts are on the list. Id be so happy if nintendo owned those IPs. I t would have been so funny (and so damn sensible) if nintendo had bought/kept Rares IPs before send them to MS
  18. Because that was when Gyrations took their motion sensing technology to nintendo, and nintendo proceeded to invest in the company. Further more nintendo didnt create the controller the morning before TGS
  19. Please, if you want to talk about revolutions controller being remarkably similar to something then make sure the product was revealed before 2001!!!!
  20. wow some of your comments in this thread are just embarassing
  21. Do you actually know how much a mass produced visor would cost?
  22. Yeh the post e3 hype doesnt matter so much. Simply because a majority of the core audience already know and are already intrigued by revolution, and the hype for them, as has already been said, can be generated pre-E3. This supposed post E3 hype isnt important but its the most important. I say this because whenever its launched the core fans/gamers will purchase revolution, but the post advertising is important to make those who dont know about it aware. So whether its out or not wont matter for the post E3. In fact it could be better if it is out, then (assuming its as cheap as projected) they will probably be able to capture impulse buyers as well, leaving them with little time to change their mind. Then they just have to convince the unbelievers. The most important (and deciding) factor is whether they can keep a steady stream of games comin out. If this news is true then this will become th edeciding factor of when it launches. Personally am hoping for a may/june launch tho. No reason why they cant take advantage of the summer drought that everyone talks about, and save a couple big games for the holiday season.
  23. i mean developers arent going to make a game if they have nobody to publish it. Publishers are the ones in control because developers dont have the money to fund and publish their own work. We've heard from developers but we havent heard much from publishers
  24. In all honesty the simple truth is because its a nintendo console, and nintendo havent disappointed ME yet. But what makes revolution more appealing and interesting is the decisions and ambitions that nintendo have for the console. The controller The Virtual console The direction they are trying to take the market These things make the console more intersting than the standard road that sony and microsoft are treading. But even if they had just tryed to make a standard more powerful console id probably still be interested in it.
  25. im not too worried about developers after all the positive comments, but will publishers follow through?
