If anyone wants to try the co-op crackdown over the weekend, give me a shout. Maybe it'll change my mind about it.

Am I the only one not that thrilled with Crackdown? Admittedly I've only played it for about 15 minutes but all i seemed to do is go to the flashing area, lock on and shoot a load of easy guys, then shoot the "leader" for about a minute until his energy fell to zero. Then i went for a wander and ended up under a bridge and facing a long run to somewhere populated to pick up a car. Maybe I should try it again but it didn't really amaze me that much.

Just download the demos of all the arcade games you like the look of, play them and if you want to play them again, buy them. However, my pick of the bunch are Geometry Wars, Cloning Clyde, Uno and Pac Man. Opinions on the arcade differ wildly.

Well now I feel a bit Geeky... I just passed 20k gamerscore this morning. I don't think I played that much!

Just jumping into this one from a programmers perspective: Not exactly, the vast majority of the game code, including most of the game engine, AI code and event handling could be kept the only major changes would be in the I/O side, namely the conversion of the graphic rendering to direct x (relatively simple these days), tuning of the shaders against the different graphics hardware, sound output and controller input and tuning. This might sound a lot but Konami know what they're doing so will probably have pre written libraries for this stuff already. The main point here is that possibly 95% of the code in MSG4 (or any other game) is engine and game logic which is almost entirely Console independant making ports much simpler. Konami own the rights to the software and so could assign anyone to perform a straight no-frills port without anyones approval. Given the current sales figures it would be a wise business decision to release MGS4 on 360 if possible as it could perform just as well as GoW and sell millions in a short space of time. And finally, on the 6 disc thing, I hope that most of the cut scenes are in-engine and therefore the game should easily fit on a single disk.

The Vast Majority of Demos are released globally. If there's any sort of violence it's usually not available in germany and sometimes if it's a non ea american sport game it only comes out in North America. I think it's pretty certain it's be out in the UK on that date.

Super mario bros3 or super mario world
theguyfromspark replied to THE ganondorflol's topic in General Gaming Discussion
There is no save game slot within the game, just the save state thing that happens to all VC games. I bought SMB the other day so i could be reminded of the good old days. I will however not be buying smb2 or 3, just hoping that they release all stars as i'd want to have the save slots for those games so i can replay some of the cool levels. Also this will probably be the only way we can play the real SMB2 anyway. -
I got lucky with the final boss, he ended up getting stuck against a crate and couldn't move, so all i had to do was blast away at him at my leisure!
-
Nope. But get one anyway!

My thoughts exactly, for me JRPGs are all about the story

Some (maybe most) would say Excite Truck but I'm not too impressed by the sound of it. Not too keen on Driving games at the best of times but this one looks a little empty with not many features. Also (and I might get flamed for this) I reckon driving games are pretty much the only genre where raw horse-power of the console really does matter most. My optinion is that the graphics, physics and AI are the main selling point of driving games and in this regard any I decide to get will most likely be on the Xbox360. There's not even the controller issue either if you decide to fork out for the driving wheel thing. Anyway, next big games for me are Eledees and Trauma Center (if there's ever a confirmed release date)

New Wii Firmware version available: V2.1E
theguyfromspark replied to Myke Greywolf's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Maybe I should just let this one go, and ask you to look up Firmware in Wikipedia. Bottom line, Firmware is a method of storing programs, machine readable code, operating instructions, whatever you want to call the 0s and 1s that computers read. Therefore firmware can technicaly hold any sort of program. In Windows PCs it's the BIOS, on the Xbox360 it's the Dashboard + Drivers. On the Wii, it's the OS (whatever it is officially called) and the drivers. -
My GF wants to play that Dancing Boss over and over again, i thought there was a mini-game based on it that got progressively longer and harder, how do i unlock it? if it exists that is.

New Wii Firmware version available: V2.1E
theguyfromspark replied to Myke Greywolf's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Not exactly. Firmware is software written in a flash device in the hardware. The software could be anything but is typically some sort of low level device management software (e.g. BIOS). In the Wii's case, the OS is stored in firmware along with other device drivers for the peripherals and media storage. Updates to the firmware of a Wii could change the OS, the device drivers or both. -
Looks like they renamed it because if you translate "Et les bites" (which is pronounced Eh leh beets) from French to English you get..... (wait for it....) ..... "And The Cocks" (as in "Penis"). So, Nintendo Europe had to market a game in France called "And the Cocks" for the Wii.... So they renamed it!

Speaking of which, I'll be online tonight (Friday) up to 10pm if anyone would like to do some multiplayer anything.

Mario, Metroid, Zelda DS Delayed..?
theguyfromspark replied to raven_blade2006's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Outside of Wario Ware, there's bugger all released for me Q1 then... a little dissapointing but I can't remember a contole launch that had many decent releases post launch in the first half year anyway. I guess I'm playing the waiting game, and hoping that the quality games will ramp up as time goes by. -

I got my shield burnt away in Dungeon 2 and want a new one! Anyone know where i can get a new one, i've just finished D3 and on my way to see Zelda. -
I think the analogy here is that if you crashed your car due to negligence and your seat belt broke so you flew through the window and severley injured yourself, you would have a case against the car manufacturers as they supplied you with faulty (or inadequate) safety equipment. Nintendo are just covering their asses by improving the strap so that they can not be liable for any damage if some muppet decides to launch their remote into orbit.

Anyone tried Assault Heroes yet? I downloaded it this morning before work and had a quick play. I finished the first level and unlocked half the achievements! Admittedly, the other half may take some work but I really enjoyed playing it. If anyone picks it up I'll do a bit of co-op with them anytime.

I'd rather have elebits and trauma center released before Feb than Wario or Excite Truck... looks like they're padding out the releases over here cos there's nothing much else coming out

The Legend of Zelda:Twilight Princess

So Hero-of-Time, any plans to change your name to Hero-of-Light or whatever the Link in this game becomes at the end? ;D -
The PC version of Star Trek is getting generally poo reviews, 58% average over at gamerankings. Is the X260 version any different? I'm definately not getting it but some people on this forum seem to be excited about it so I'm hoping it'll be better for their sakes!

I thought you only get stars for Nintendo published games and a select few others. I didn't get any for Rayman or Red Steel as they are Ubisoft games.
