  1. D1 is hardly the time for mafia to stick their neck out, I think you two just have different opinions on this vest thing. Though I find it interesting that no one is considering the possibility that the mafia having a vest could be useful. Perhaps there are townie redirectors, or the previously suggested third party killers.
  2. Sheikah's post makes a lot of sense, though of course people could say one thing and vote another. @DuD can we change our nomination if we've already submitted one?
  3. Unless we agree on one person to save in the thread, but all secretly vote for our second candidate. So who should be protect *wink wink* and who should we ACTUALLY protect? Say it quiet so the mafia don't see
  4. DuD lays out the vest mechanics in post #22 for reference Also Cube if the vest is persistent, vig still makes sense. SK is possible too. BTW I am not claiming either of these!
  5. the vest only protects for kills, so that wouldn't work Peeps. Also anyone claiming to have a vest tomorrow should be lynched for reasons that should be obvious.
  6. maybe this game has a vig?
  7. Who wants my nomination? Also for the sake of the game I'm going to let you all know now that my attendance will be spotty for the next week or so while I finish this job and fly home. I've been spending at least one night of every three cooped up at mill NY, surrounded by empty beers and such. I should take a photo, it looks like the hacker's desk from jurassic park.
  8. @DuD can I nominate myself for the vest? Oh yeah someone should tell Dohnut the game has started
  9. sssssiiiick vote Magnus Peterson because I didn't know it was Tim until like yesterday OK so I've read the OP properly now, and it looks like there are vests awarded to the "most and least popular". I'm guessing we submit PMs to DuD in the form of "person X should have the vest". The thing is, what to do with the tiebreaker between the people with no reccommendations? There's very likely going to be tiebreakers for the bottom, and maybe even the top. I'm guessing this vest is a 1 time kill protection?
  10. EXCITEMENT
  11. @Cube that sounds fucking rad!
  12. I think my response was pretty plain, and I don't know you well enough to know when you are being facetious. That said "knickers in a twist" is somewhat sexist
  13. @Ramar maybe, until you think about why it is that way. AFAIK it was the first gender equality movement and its first action was to enable women to be political entities. After that, the name stuck
  14. yupyupyupyup
  15. I haven't read the whole thread, what's being argued here? Is someone telling you you are a feminist?
  16. That's not a bad definition, but I think more accurately, for me at least, it's for equality for all gender expressions. Anywho, wot I think of the video! Full disclosure: I contributed to this kickstarter. I liked it! Particularly what she had to say about ocarina because I was thinking of that example just before she said it, and it's true, Zelda's a badass as long as she isn't wearing a dress It was very professionally made and researched, maybe presented a bit on the formal side for my tastes, but yeah, well worth the $25 or whatever I put in. Funny lesson about the amount of money it generated - if you try and do something on the internet, people will try and stop you. Trolls got really upset about the idea that this woman would dare to make a video series on this subject, and then everyone else on the internet went against the trolls and chipped in to the kickstarter, generating way more than it probably would have if it were treated as something like a game review series. You can open pandora's box, but there's always hope at the bottom.
  17. I'm also an atheist, but my atheism is probably quite different to many others
  18. there is more to it, but it isn't a package. my feminism is different to someone elses
  19. It's the central point
  20. pilotwings64, gold on everything!
  21. You could make the same argument about people making documentaries like "the cove" etc. Why bother to do anything when that money isn't being used to cure cancer. It triggers my yawn reflex Oh I did that thing where I read page 1 then replied and it appears on page 6. Oh dear!
  22. Rummy's strategy is more consistent, endears himself to town more easily, and would be more successful in the long run. Easy lynches are like easy saves for a goalie - they're easy because they put themselves in the right place at the right time for it to happen without much effort. Hard lynches on the other hand make for pages of entertaining mafia.
  23. Thing is, it really is in the best interest of the town. At first it would chafe, but then it would influence future game design. Perhaps I will do it in the next themed game (oh look i've started playing already. meta!) seriously when's the next game
  24. Also worth noting, in some mafia communities there is a policy called Lynch All Liars, where anyone admitting to a lie is lynched. It makes it easier for town to win. Also too most of these games would be won by town with a D1 massclaim, but we generally don't do that. That's something that could be addressed in future theme games. I tried to do this to some extent in wire mafia where I gave the mafia known unoccupied roles to claim, but then the powers are the hard thing to stay honest about.
  25. The thing is though, me voting to lynch someone early as a mafia indicator is going to be a false positive in the next game where I'm town, which will more likely than not be the next one. Being positive of an unknown outcome (due to no concrete, only circumstantial, evidence) and going on to inventing information is ballsy, and yes, arrogant. Still, I appreciate it for the flair. This is one of those games where I would LOVE to have seen the parallel universe where one single decision was made differently. And I think that speaks to the great balancing of the design by Jimbob.
