Is it just HD video playback (MKV?) that you want? No fancy post-processing, no TV tuners, no gaming or high-quality sound card? And how do you want to load content to it? Straight from a hard drive or over the network from a server/NAS? Oh, and last question, low-maintenance or long-term tweaking project? Makes a big difference on the software choice.

Memo to self: kidnap ReZ the day before Iron Man 3/The Avengers (whichever comes first) is released, then film the next day's insanity and make a killing selling the footage and back-story to You've Been Framed.

Anyone on here having problems with the antenna? I know Caris won't be, but anyone else? Sounds like it could be a big issue... Sync your touch with iTunes (and just to make sure, right click on your iPod Touch in iTunes and select 'Transfer Purchases') then just sync your iPhone, it should sync everything that your Touch had on it.

Spoke to Vodafone today, no deals. They want me to sign up for two years, double my line rental up from £15/month to £30/month and give them £169 in order to get the handset. Two out of the three and I'd probably agree, but that's too much, better off going SIM-Free or PAYG (or not bothering, I'll only wind up selling it in a few months for the next handset that catches my eye instead...).

Am I the only N-Eer that's not lost a 360 yet? Three and a half years without issue (Bar one scare last summer, but everything was overheating then. I had to spend £80 on extra cooling for my brand new PC )

Rotation lock is native. Double tap the home button, swipe left to right in the task switcher. Brings up iPod controls and the rotation lock button Cheers for the heads up on SBSettings, seems they fixed it today!
-
It chugs a bit on the 3G with custom backgrounds and multitasking. Still worth it though imo. 4.0 is a good upgrade, sorted quite a few niggles with the OS. Oh and... Rotation Lock! Finally!

My ePenis feels soul-destroyingly small now. Must resist urge to spend monies on computer gear. Or a dodgy op.

Nice! No need to ask who has the most powerful rig on this site then...

Redsn0w beta. iPhone 3G and 2nd Gen iPod Touch only at the moment and it's only really good for getting background wallpapers/multitasking because the majority of JB apps haven't been ported to iOS4 yet. SBSettings doesn't work Windows: http://sites.google.com/a/iphone-dev.com/files/home/redsn0w_win_0.9.5b5-3.zip?attredirects=0 Mac: http://sites.google.com/a/iphone-dev.com/files/home/redsn0w_mac_0.9.5b5-3.zip

Oooh, shiny. Installed. Jailbreaking now

Cool. One other question, are you certain you can get 3G on UK networks? I've not seen any reports confirming or denying that it works, but IFixIt's breakdown mentioned it only runs on 850, 1900 and 2100MHz bands, UK networks run on 900 and 1800MHz (the same as T-Mobile USA). If IFixIt are right then it'll only do Edge.

Figured it'd be something like that. One of my mates is off to Florida in July so I'll get him to pick one up for me I think, can't turn down a £100 saving (16GB 3G).
-
Chuck, out of curiosity how are you avoiding import tax and duty? I'm guessing you know someone who's going stateside? After using one for a while today I'm considering putting an order in myself and that price would seal the deal for me.

It's been out for developers for a while. Devs can add iPhone's to their development account (think it's up to 99 per account or something?) so some have been selling spare slots. Once your iPhone is registered as belonging to a developer you can install iOS 4.

O2 or Carphone Warehouse employee? I guess that does tip the scales. Still can't get why anyone else would want to go with them now though (aside from good local coverage) given they've scrapped true unlimited data. Wasn't that their ace in the hole?
-
Word. O2 are more expensive, have the worst 3G coverage of all networks and have the slowest speeds. Makes no sense to buy the iPhone from them.
-
So... it's more powerful than the iPad. I guess in theory we could have iPhone 4 apps that can't run on iPad now then. 256MB always was a stupid decision, they should have made it 512MB+ because it's literally the weakest link in the hardware.

Ah right. Giz lied then. Bastards.

Not quite. They have one with buttons and this thing; It lets you hook up your own MIDI instruments to your console for use in Rock Band 3. Guitar, Bass, Keyboard and Drums all work I'm wondering how much it'll cost, I'd rather buy a cheap real guitar than the RB3 Pro guitar if they cost about the same (with adaptor). http://gizmodo.com/5565453/hands-on-with-rock-band-3s-pro-guitar-and-keyboard-keytar

So... thought? New instruments look dope.
-
They've never failed me. Only used Reserve and Collect a few times though.

AT&T use the 850MHz and 1900MHz frequency bands for 3G, all UK operators use 900MHz and 1800MHz. Can't say for certain, but you might not get any 3G coverage with a US iPhone, all depends if they can roam 3G data (not all phones can). It probably does work, but worth the risk? You'd also lose all warranty. Plus, the Yanks aren't getting theirs until July 14th now thanks to the order system falling flat on it's face. AT&T and Apple have made a right mess over there!
-
Not sure I can quite justify £120 for a less noisy console. Will probably wait for a special dealio at work instead.

I'm not hugely surprised by the dull conference, can anyone honestly say they're stuck for games? Microsoft have basically gone "OK, the hardcore gaming market is catered for, lets concentrate on something else.". It's irritating because E3 is kinda like "our" event, but not particularly alarming. Next E3 could well be much the same with Google moving in to the TV space and Apple bringing iOS to people's TVs. I expect there'll be a lot more focus on services, Kinect, XBLA and cross platform compatibility with Windows Phone with less focus on big game releases. The next Halo/Gears/PGR/Forza etc. are going to become a lot less important over the next 5 years.
