  1. Indeed excellent for a fan video. The one thing that doesn't fit in at all, is toon Link though.
  2. For anybody interested, here's the Q&A. Haven't read through it myself yet, but these usually offer some good insight (rarely concrete news though).
  3. From my experience in one of the extremely rare examples where these buttons are used, that's not how they work though. I've got driving backwards mapped to a face button in GT5. It can be dosed, but not unless you've actually pressed the button beyond the initial resistance it offers. The dosing happens by in- or decreasing pressure on the button when it is already down and doesn't move perceivably anymore. Maybe the buttons already register analogue movement when they're not fully down, but in that case it's mostly used to emulate a binary button. Everything beyond the initial resistance registers as pressed, everything before doesn't.
  4. Never knew that. Where they used as often as the DS3's are?
  5. Well, you get analogue buttons for it. Those got to be worth a premium, no? An advice concerning Bioshock: If you can wait, then get Bioshock Infinite when it comes out later this year. It will include the first. That is, unless Irrational or 2k Games decide to pull an EA... Edit: @Retro_Link If you're looking for a jump&run on the PS3, have you considered Rayman Origins? If not, you should at least check out the demo!
  6. You're in the wrong forums then. The news come from Nintendo's investor's briefing. These briefings are scheduled in advance and are basically held quarterly. And as Nintendo's financial aspects aren't exactly rosy at the moment, they felt the pressure to assure shareholders that they're doing something. And about a day after the event, the translated briefings/Q&As can be found here. This one can be found here.
  7. Fair enough. There are more issues with the game. For instance, the Wii has all the ingredients to make this thing control better than this type of game could ever hope to control with a traditional controller. What did they do wrong? They didn't use the pointer. Still, fairly minor criticisms, imo.
  8. If by "not smooth" you mean that edges of the image seem to flicker, than that would be indeed a problem with using scart instead of a component cable. Simply put: get one anyway. And don't ever bother with the official component cable from Nintendo. It's just ridiculously overpriced. Get a cheap one that doesn't cost more than 10€. If by "not smooth" you mean the image has rugged edges all over, that's just due to the low resolution and lack of anti-aliasing of Wii games. Nothing you can do, except for getting a very fast PC and playing the game on dolphin. Last thing I can think of are "image enhancements" on some HDTVs. When a friend played Xenoblade on his Samsung TV, we noticed that the shadows of the characters and generally the areas around all edges in the game seemed to "flow" and where blurred when he moved around. He later found out that this was indeed caused by some kind of processing the TV did on the image before displaying it (no idea what it was). If your TV's settings have something like a game mode, try to use it when playing the game.
  9. Don't get your hopes up for the 3DS, yet. We don't know how far the system is build around the "per console" accounts. In the worst case Nintendo would have to modify the OS quiet a bit.
  10. I read that as: "More people would possibly buy or get excited about our hardware, if we weren't years behind the times - all the time."
  11. This isn't your average E3 hype-trailer, where you'd expect it to show mostly finished game content. This a trailer made by a "community member" (= paying tester), not even a developer: You can become a team member by paying a variable amount of money, which they'll use to fund the development of the game while giving you access to their latest builds. Stuff like particles and the driver in the cockpit perspective are probably not implemented yet or not in their final form. Have a look at their homepage, there is more information: They're eventually targeting free 2 play, although I suspect that might be limited to the PC release.
  12. I kind of doubt that we'll see a PS360 release, or even an official PC release soon, unless they're further along than what they're showing on the homepage. This thing is an oddity, as they have that strange financing model/portal where people can buy themselves various levels of access to early builds of their projects and the rights to participate in forums, make suggestions etc.. Because of that, everyone with a suitable PC can already play the latest builds of the game, but they're pretty much "paying testers" so far. I'm curious to see how this pans out on consoles and really hope the project doesn't fail and sink, so that we're never going to see the finished product at all. There is also an interesting presentation on the WMD-portal page, that details what kind of features they're planning to implement. It also planned as a free2play game, according to the slides. Anyway, I'll shamelessly copy my ideas for how they could use the WiiU's tablet for some of their planned features from the WiiU-thread: Play CO-OP with a friend as Driver/Co-Driver - I'm assuming this refers to driving Rallies, might be nice with two "UPads", where the Co-Driver has a map. Gimmicky and geeky to be sure, but nice. PIT-2-CAR Radio - The "UPad" has a mic. Voice recognition would be nice for this. Another option would be to have additional virtual buttons on the touch screen for this. User generated content - The "UPad" has a large touch screen. Painting liveries and decals seems like a no-brainer.
  13. Are you playing on a HD flat screen? If so, have you turned down image "enhancement" effects like sharpness? I know, it doesn't make the jagged edges go away, but it also doesn't pronounce them further.
  14. Wii Sports/Fit/Music, Metroid Other M If "taking a chance" includes supporting titles outside of their usual repertoire, even without having EAD develop them, you can count Xenoblade as a first party project and The Last Story as an outside project.
  15. Was it already named "Nintendo Network" back then? I can only remember Iwata vaguely stating in an investor's Q&A that they're going to expand their online services. The only specific point I can remember is that he said they'd eventually introduce a way to purchase download software from the browser. Which leads me to believe that Nintendo might introduce user accounts after all. Though I wouldn't be surprised if they made you type in your 3DS' friend code when purchasing stuff through a browser instead of introducing console-independent accounts.
  16. Seems Nintendo is rebranding their "network service", at least for 3DS games. This Theatrythm Final Fantasy... thing is supposed to have paid DLC and someone discovered a new logo on the box, saying "Nintendo network". The name sounds good as it is. Now Nintendo only has to build a network that deserves that name instead of different networks for each console, every one various kinds of useless. Stuff like actual persistent user accounts to tie purchases to would be a start. It's Nintendo though, might be just a new label to signal an online mode or DLC etc..
  17. Is it really just the voice acting? I'd say it's first and foremost the cheesiness of the dialogue thanks to the writing. With the exception of that black haired guy. He sounds like the voice actor is trying to talk with an unnaturally deep voice, but fails badly. Xenoblade has outstanding English voice acting, so I don't see how finally having voice acting would damage Zelda. I can only see actual voice acting mending the damage that watching elaborate cutscenes with animated lip movements for the characters, while listening to them stupidly grunting, does:
  18. That seems to be a terrific lecture if you're a computer scientist or want to become one, but it might be quiet out of the scope if you just want to learn some basic object-orientated programming. I just skipped through some pages and it seems to focus very much on theoretical problems and aspects of programming. And it's Lisp, which isn't inherently a bad thing, but also very "alien" in concept compared to the most common modern object orientated languages. It's sound advice to say he should generally learn programming, not Java, but I wouldn't recommend to start from there.
  19. @Ashley: The first place to start would be the Oracle website with Java tutorials. Under "Trails Covering the Basics" the "Getting Started" section and the "Learning the Java Language" sections should provide a good introduction. I don't know a thing about Android development except that Java can be used. For that you'd have to look for specific tutorials/books etc.. Edit: In the "getting started" section they're showing the usual Hello-World using the NetBeans IDE. For lack of experience with it, I can't say if it's a good choice, but listen to @Ike and use Eclipse instead.
  20. ? That's as good as Nintendo's PR claiming they'll have a good launch lineup for the 3DS or a solid release schedule for the Wii in 2011. I guess time will show what there is to this rumor.
  21. I would so laugh, if they did grab Vigil. :p Can't see it happening though. They seem extremely reluctant to just "buy up" studios / IPs, especially in the West. Don't think the Darksiders IP would benefit from being a Nintendo exclusive either. I hope everyone affected by this will land on their feet. I do wonder if it's going to be the end of Games Workshop (40k)-licensed games... Back around 2004, I was enthusiastic about the original Dawn of War. Over time though, I started to dislike aspects of it and how Relic handled them pretty strongly.
  22. Talking about form factor it's the "gen before last" actually, if we're taking the WiiU as next gen. And by kind of pointless random dig, do you mean just like calling unspecified people retards from across the other half of the board, instead of getting over there and telling them?
  23. Not half as impressive as a prerendered trailer, I give you that. On the other hand, some of these games are actually supposed to be released for it (Darksiders 2, Arkham Asylum, Metro and Aliens, I believe). Being PS360 games, they'll even roughly look like what was shown. :p
