  1. Told you guys it'd be disappointing. Ah well. Hopefully a new Zelda at tomorrow's conference
  2. Mario U looks fantastic. Beautiful art style
  3. I agree. I find all this hype dangerous, it could quite easily be a big let-down, as these things usually are when there's lots of hype. NSMBM and NSMB2 don't sound like a great start, for one.
  4. Completely agree, thought it looked very much like SMB World, and far better than the usual NSMB style
  5. I'm just pleased we're getting a 2nd analog stick on the controller/pad. Camera control in the next Zelda, sorely missed since Wind Waker :-)
  6. We've had a couple of instances of open-ended progression in the modern Zelda games. OOT let you to do either the Shadow or Spirit dungeon first, and Wind Waker let you do Wind or Earth in either order. The latter especially worked well I thought, especially since it was also a game that opened up the entire world map from the very start.
  7. Ice Climber 2, wow that'd be amazing. I'd love it to be in 2D though, not some 3d game like Kid Icarus that's nothing like the original.
  8. It's flattering when my posts are repeated and improved upon Great article here about the direction Zelda has gone since the early games: http://www.zeldadungeon.net/2012/05/what-the-legend-of-zelda-has-to-learn-from-journey/
  9. You either choose one or the other, there's no going back. It doesn't really matter though, the outcomes are different but it doesn't impact anything. The Thunderhead was beyond lazy I totally agree. What a disappointment. You'd think they would have at the very least changed the background music, but no it's exactly the same as the regular sky. Wind Waker handled atmospheric changes like that ten times better.
  10. I quite liked the cutscene, although fair enough after seeing it a couple of hundred times maybe it did get old. If they're going to remake a Zelda on a home console, it will most likely be Wind Waker. Most of the HD assets are already in place and it will look even more stunning in HD. Porting Majora's Mask to HD will involve far more work, and anyway they've set a precedent with the 3DS, so that's where it will most likely go, assuming it ever gets made.
  11. Skyloft could have looked so much better. The Zelda world is so much 'cuter' than it was back in the NES days.
  12. I just think with last year being so Zelda-centric they might want to let the series lie low for a while and build the buzz for next year. Hopefully not though.
  13. I hope there'll be some Zelda goodness at E3. A 3DS game maybe?
  14. Congrats, that's quite possibly the weakest argument there's ever been on these forums. So the hero wears green and fires arrows, therefore, they're all the same exact same tale. Never mind that one has the twilight realm invading Hyrule, one takes place on the Sea because Hyrule was flooded, one has the moon crashing into the earth, and the other involves trains. Or the fact that the connections between all the later games, were either obviously and/or purposefully put in by Nintendo. That sort of ruins your 'same tale, different telling' theory.
  15. Except they're not the same stories. Are you telling me Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, Majora's Mask and Spirit Tracks all tell the same tale?
  16. I've been playing Zelda since the original on the NES and I figured out and liked the controls instantly. It's nothing to do with how long you've been playing the games, but how open minded you are. They work fine and really don't deserve all this constant attention negative or positive. As for rolling, 99% of the time the only reason to do that in the previous Zeldas was to get places faster, now with the sprint, I didn't feel the need to roll unless I had to to get something out of trees etc. Oh come on, now you're just complaining for the hell of it. As others have said that clearing is supposed to be silent, it adds to the soothing mood of the environment. It worked well IMO You're not going to enjoy this game in the mood you're in, constantly looking for faults. I'd suggest you sit back, get over the fact that it's not what you were expecting and try to enjoy for what it is.
  17. Wind Waker in 16:9 and HD could cost a hundred quid and I'd still buy it. A Director's Cut with extra work put in would also be amazing, if extremely unlikely.
  18. A lot of people seem really let down by the fact you couldn't explore submerged Hyrule. Personally I can't say it bothered me in the slightest at the time, in fact I don't think it even entered my head that there may be another huge world to explore beyond the Great Sea. I did like the subtle/eerie background music that played when you left the castle towards the barrier though
  19. Best soundtrack in a Zelda game IMO
  20. Jonnas, sorry no idea why I wrote Forsaken Fortress twice lol, the second one was supposed to be Forbidden Woods
  21. The dungeons in Wind Waker were stunning, I thought. The Forsaken Fortress and the whole creepy vibe that went with it, the Forsaken Fortress (gorgeous art style and beautiful use of props), the Tower of the Gods was epic in scale, the Wind Temple concept was pretty nifty and I can't really remember the Earth Temple but I'm sure it was good. Using Medli and Makar in the latter two also gave them a nice twist. On the other hand I've already forgotten what half the ones in Skyward Sword were like.
  22. I never really tried the figuring sidequest (and this is coming from an enormous Wind Waker fan), maybe I should next playthrough
  23. I seem to remember liking Minish Cap a lot, and can now see the similarities with Skyward Sword. Saying it has more charm than Wind Waker though is hard to agree on. Nothing has more charm than Wind Waker. I also wish the two Four Swords games never happened but that's another matter.
  24. Wow looks a carbon copy of the DS visuals. Really disappointing, not a fan of NSMB at all. A quick money-maker, what a shame after the fantastic 3D Land.
  25. I could post two dozen clips, but this is one example video sums up the beauty of Wind Waker for me: The sequence from 3:31 onwards really is quite wonderful. The victory fanfare, and animations, the musical sequence, the editing etc. What did we have in Skyward Sword? Nondescript flames shooting out onto your sword. zzzzzzzzzzz 3:45>4:00 Simple but lovely tracking shot on the Triforce symbol and exit warp, that works perfectly with the music. Did we have anything similar in Skyward Sword? Of course not. As for the boss battle itself... some fantastic (IMO) and memorable music (something Skyward Sword can only dream of having), a weird, different, magical concept (unlike Skyward Sword's relatively unimaginative ones), beautiful lighting and so on. It may sound like I'm having a go at Skyward Sword. I loved the game, it was fun, but for the most part it was so unimaginative and lazy compared to this masterpiece. PS: those purple explosion flames make me have a tiny orgasm. PPS: If the next Zelda doesn't bring back the sorely missed magic metre, I'm going to personally bitchslap Aonuma. It's funny how the loss of it coincided exactly when Zelda started to lose its way and how the magic has slowly disappeared from the series.
