Nintendo 3DS Direct - 3rd Party Games (11th July)
Ronnie replied to Serebii's topic in Nintendo Gaming
After it's extremely forgettable showing at E3 I was expecting a proper 3DS Direct at some point around now, gutted. -
To keep the sales momentum going beyond June.
-
In the MK Nintendo Direct they showed us a comparison video between karts and bikes, trying to determine which was faster. It the end the point was Karts were marginally (as in 1 or 2 seconds per race) on some surfaces, bikes marginally faster on other surfaces. So neither is faster generally it just depends if you're on a circuit or a beach for example.

Same here, so that's a minority of two at least That Corneria music is amazing.
-
Obviously you didn't grow up playing Starwing on the SNES Plus I did say 'option', it'd be great to have both.
-
I hope Starfox U gives the option of having Lylat gibberish spoken instead of the English voice acting. Way better

Apparently this game is on average about 5 hours long, which is a shame as it seems I've done 4 already. Ah well. There are 'missile doors'... they're the blocks that can only be broken when you get a certain item. There's also plenty of backtracking, that's all you do every time you need to get back to the surface every few minutes. But otherwise I agree the comparison to Metroid is only superficial really.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Wii U / Switch
Ronnie replied to darkjak's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Let me ask you something, why does it matter so much to you that each game is similar to the last one? Why does each one have to have a horse, and each one has to have similar items, and combat mechanics, and be set in the same land? Does that sort of thing honestly excite you? The same game just slightly tweaked with each instalment? Don't you think that seems a bit superficial and generic? That's what GTA and a lot of other AAA games are good for, not one of Nintendo's flagship titles. Does that mean in your ideal world, the 2D wall painting mechanic of ALBW shouldn't have been there? We should have had a game where you travel through Hyrule on trains? Or better yet, trains wouldn't have been in Spirit Tracks, or Linebeck's boat in Phantom Hourglass because in every Zelda game we would be traversing the same land of Hyrule on horseback, with no game-diferentiating mechanics to tell each instalment apart. I suspect it would have lost interest a very long time ago. -
Sorry for the bump, I've just started playing this and can't put it down it's that good! Lovely blend of platforming, exploration and combat, with a fair bit of strategy too. Feels just like Metroid in its progression. Any ideas how long this will take to complete? I've at the green acid dripping blocks in the Old World area. Hope I'm not too near the end.

It was directed at @darkjak's comment about the differences between each GTA, not the games themselves. -
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Wii U / Switch

That's just your opinion. I love the variety in my Zelda games, gives each one a distinct feel. The core mechanics are hardly archaic, they're what makes the series special, and it's clear Nintendo are trying to look into the core gameplay in ALBW and Zelda U. A close-minded minority, thankfully. Not "many". It WAS controversial, but when people saw how beautifully Nintendo executed it, the vast majority fell in love and now that game is actually celebrated for its art style. Again, in your opinion. It was a return to the "go anywhere" mechanic that made the original LOZ such a hit. I adored the overworld in Wind Waker, it made me feel like I was on an adventure. So much so that it wasn't present in the first four games of the series and has only been included in three out of sixteen. *interest and attention in your post dwindling…* If you think that Vice City screenshot looks good, then I can't imagine I will ever convince you of anything. Annoying enemy design in what way? How were they annoying? It's starting to sound like Zelda (or Nintendo games in general) just isn't for you. Lazy, predictable, samey, repetitive sequels might be more your thing. What are you talking about? You honestly would prefer Nintendo to just stick to the exact same art style, in all their games, and not try anything new ever? Nintendo are the masters of art style. Ok Yoshi's New Island apart, their games are stunning. I'm personally not in any particular camp, I trust Nintendo to deliver a gorgeous game, and 99% of the time, they do. Oh to have that kind of foresight, I'd love to be able to look 5 years into the future. Proved my point nicely. GTA's differences can be summed up in the type of weapons each iteration has. Stunning gameplay variety there. How about they just concentrate on building the best Zelda game they can manage? -

I like that Nintendo tries something different with Zelda, given that the gameplay has to remain pretty similar for each game they can't always have the same mechanics from game to game. What does it matter if at the time it freaked fans out? Wind Waker's art style is critically acclaimed now, everyone loves it and it looks stunning. The graphics were ahead of their time and they still stand up today and will do for a long time. So you want a horse on the open sea with 3 day time travel thrown in? All because it needs to keep certain arbitrary mechanics from past games to maintain a hazy semblance of "evolution"? Looks pretty bad nowadays though doesn't it. As for multiplayer, of course it does, that fits in with GTA's gameplay, unlike Zelda. But horses belong on the open sea, re: your earlier point about a missing riding mechanic in Wind Waker? Do you have any idea how flimsy this argument sounds? You praise GTA for 'improved physics' and 'airplanes are back', yet ignore the ground-breaking motion controls for combat in Skyward Sword or the fact that 'the horse is back'. So what? Did wolves belong in Skyward Sword? And fyi, there was a boat mechanic in Skyward Sword and the combat was most certainly an evolution from TP. You can question a lot of Nintendo's decisions, but their art styles? Really? So let me make sure I'm clear on this, to you Zelda U needs to include a two time periods, a musical instrument that lets you control time, masks that allow you to transform, a boat that lets you sail the open seas, a companion that lets you transform into a wolf, motion controls, a bird and a horse for transport. And putting all of that into Zelda U will show that they're "evolving" Zelda? Gotcha. Every GTA game feels the same, conversely every Zelda game feels and plays differently, that's a good thing. It sounds to me like you'd prefer Nintendo to release Ocarina of Time 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. That's not what they're trying to do, unlike what GTA is trying to be. Each Zelda game is supposed to be a standalone adventure with different mechanics. -
Well done them. Just what modern gaming needs, another shooter. And yet Nintendo were torn to pieces for the lack of games in its first year. I was only replying to the original daft statement by @Sheikah. I'm not saying things are all rosey on the Wii U, far from it obviously, but I just thought I'd have the nerve to stick up for Ninty in what's been pages and pages of complaining and bitching about every little thing they've done wrong. Again, not saying the complaining isn't warranted or justified, I just wanted to give a different view.

Apart from any games worth buying, small hiccup that.
-
2TB seems a bit excessive doesn't it? Are people really planning on installing over 200 retail games on their console?
-
Not really, I've got all the other games that I'm interested in and Wii Party U is the only one left. It also fits nicely as a digital download, always being on the console.
-
What I expect them to give us: all-range mode, Gamepad only controls, lots and lots of vehicles with only a handful Arwing stages. As an aside, I quite liked the walking around levels in Starfox Assault. Particularly the final one.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Wii U / Switch

Whenever I think of the combat in Skyword Sword, I think of... And that's a good thing -
I think IGN have really improved their Nintendo coverage these past few years. I actually think they're excellent nowadays, I listen to Game Scoop and NVC pretty much every week without fail. Game Scoop is best when it's Daemon, Justin, Brian and Colin IMO. People say IGN is anti-Nintendo but I don't think that's true at all, far from it in fact. Jose annoys me a little, but otherwise I think the cast is great. Brian is very funny and clearly loves Nintendo, Peer talks a fair bit of sense and Colin is probably the one I respect the most because I agree with a lot of his views and he knows his stuff. I wouldn't call him negative I actually think his tougher stance is needed, he makes some great points.

You should stop getting so wound up by posts on GAF. Gamers can be incredibly immature, more often than not sadly.
-
Europe and Australia really got screwed here. A release date would be nice guys.

I'm finding the 150cc GP pretty much unplayable now. Just too frustrating. Weapons off 150cc VS mode against hard cpu is where the real action is.
-
Didn't some people want a precision platformer like Mario 3D World online?
-
Personally, I just don't want to play battle mode against the cpu. I want to play against only my mates, in a nice (not too big!) self-contained arena. Is that really so much to ask?
-
We lasted about 30 seconds on the battle mode before switching it off never to play again. And I thought it couldn't get any worse after MKWii!
