The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Wii U / Switch

Just realised we've not seen Link in his usual green clothes and hat yet, I assume it'll be in the game though -

That's exactly how I'm going to play it as well. Can't wait. These 5-6 weeks are going to feel like months. -

Then in your very particular case, where you won't play any other game on the Switch ever, fair enough, Zelda isn't worth £320. For most people who plan on gaming more than one game on the thing, the better version is obviously the way to go. -

There was no misunderstanding, it was just a silly thing to say. I'm buying a Switch to have a Switch. Zelda is the first of many games that I will enjoy on the thing. Or, if we follow your train of thought, the Switch version of Zelda certainly is worth that much, because not only is it prettier, it also comes with a very impressive portable gaming system. Bargain! -
Really pleased to see Shine Thief back! I loved that mode in Double Dash

It's a good thing Breath of the Wild on Switch isn't £340 then isn't it. -

That's just the angle the screenshots are taken at, one is higher up looking down and shows a snow covered part that's simply obscured in the other one. We're literally talking seconds apart in terms of the time of day. Except that there's a huge difference between those two screenshots. It's clear as day, the Wii U version looks muddy and indistinct, the Switch one is anything but. These are brand new screenshots, made to illustrate the two versions at their best for Amazon and the like to use to sell the game. -

The above doesn't really tell you much though. We knew the amount of shrines in the game, and the rest is meh. Trust me I'm going to avoid as many spoilers as I can before release, I just didn't really consider this very spoilery, that's all. -

Mild spoilers about the quantity of sidequests in the game... -

Yeah Aonuma mentioned a second ending if you complete certain tasks. Maybe do all 100+ shrines dotted around the map or something like that. What does it matter if one is a few seconds ahead of the other. They're more or less the same and the difference in draw distance is clear regardless of the time of day. Fine we'll wait for retail copies to see but I think it's pretty obvious the Switch version will be an improvement. -

How do you know the Wii U one is at a different stage of development? These were just released from Nintendo and the game is out in 6 weeks. They wouldn't send out shots from an old build when they can show it off at its best. Setting up similar shots of both versions was obviously done for people to see the difference. -
Thanks for the heads up. Tempted but I think I'll wait for a cheap 256

Who knows. There'll obviously be a difference and these are brand new screenshots Nintendo just released. Aonuma said the versions at the Switch events were pretty much the final retail build. -

Wii U: Switch: Draw distance seems far better on Switch -
Why not ask that question whenever there's negative chat on the Nintendo board? You know, every second post on there. Negative chat is ok if the Wii U has a dry spell, but not if PSVR has one? I thought it was an interesting article, at a time when PSVR and VR in general isn't exactly firing on all cylinders. That certainly seems to be the case. It may have a second wind say of Playstation drops the price or if there's a big unexpected game that gets people talking. I'm sure VR will be huge, but I'm getting less and less convinced gaming will be a big mainstream part of it.

Great post, fingers crossed.

Has anyone played this and Fast? Any impressions on which one is more enjoyable?

So I'd always assumed the red icon was 'Games' or home screen but it turns out it's actually more like a Notifications section. I wonder how you get to the home screen if you're inside that, or settings etc I guess it could just be via the home button.
-
They've now changed it for the Switch because the icons are surrounded by a circular border, so of course they're going to be the same size. Free floating buttons on the other hand don't have to be. It's why when companies line various logos up they take surface area into account instead of making everything line up perfectly. I haven't checked but I suspect the spacing between them is probably consistent, but because of the differing dimensions, makes it look off. If you made each icon a square box, the spacing would probably be consistent. As for the overly populated colour palette, welcome to Nintendo I guess.

I'm not sure why you're using guides to align the buttons at the bottom of the Wii U menu, they're clearly not meant to be the exact same width/height as each other. The ones that are supposed to be the same height (friends list, tv, notifications), are.
-
And imagine that, being able to re-arrange icons on a home screen!
-
There was so much pointless clutter and convoluted design in that horrible PS4 interface you'd have a tough time margin-ing anything. Horrendous. Nice to see the Switch one is clean and hopefully user friendly.
-
Yeah the PS4 OS is trash, such a confusing, cluttered mess. Hopefully the Switch OS will allow us to zoom out like on 3DS or re-arrange icons (what a concept!) like on Wii U.

Yet another likely GOTY contender on Wii U -
I'm disappointed the OS doesn't seem to have any nice features like Miiverse and Streetpass, but I really like the UI. Nice and clean.
