General Gaming Sales/Charts Discussion
Serebii replied to Hero-of-Time's topic in General Gaming Discussion
Think of the glass as half full once in a while, my friend :p It was #1 on the Wii U charts. The Individual Formats chart is where it lists all versions of a game separately, so rather than clumping every multiformat game together in one, it has each SKU separately. For example, in this chart, with The Lego Movie The Video Game: Xbox 360: #1 Playstation 3: #3 3DS: #14 Playstation 4: #23 Wii U: #26 Xbox One: #33 Vita: Not on chart. -

Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze came in at #4 in the Individual Format charts in the UK this week. Not bad. -

Even moreso. Metroid games don't sell. Yes No Yes Yes Sort of Just because specific games do not appeal to you does not mean they are of poor quality. Wii Party U is a very well made, and very fun game. Just because it doesn't have a narrative, isn't an adventure game and doesn't have realistic graphics does not mean it's not a decent enjoyable game. -

That's really the sentiment I've been feeling about Nintendo as a whole, of late. Their output has been phenomenal, yet the games just aren't selling. -

Perhaps, but when the supply constrained console is the top one, there's an issue. I'm not sure what it could be, the polar vortex probably dented sales a bit, but as I said, it was a bad month. This is unlikely to be a standard for the 3DS, but we won't know until next month. 3DS has low software sales because there are very few third parties developing for it in the west. As such, the vast majority of 3DS game sales come from Nintendo titles, which often break 2 million units a piece. Most third party games in Japan sell alright to decent amounts. However, as you yourself have put forth, the west is the bigger market. As such, software sales aren't necessarily based upon pricing, but rather more based upon the lack of software coming for it away from first party content. You can't sell what doesn't exist. Pricing is not necessarily an issue, when Pokémon X & Y sold 11.67 million in two and a half months. Only four Xbox 360 games have sold more than this (Kinect Adventures, Grand Theft Auto V, Halo 3 & Call of Duty: Black Ops), and one Playstation 3 game (Grand Theft Auto V). Other Nintendo titles sell decent amounts too. Lowering price would help, sure, but it's not the massive issue. -

PS3 and 360 are not long dead. New games are still coming out for them. Microsoft and Sony are both still supporting them. What I'm saying is that the January sales of games in North America were dire across the board. Unless the PS4 and Xbox One figures are suddenly good. They're good compared to the rest, but they're not exactly what they should have been considering the previous months, marketing etc. -

"One of the only"? All devices bar PS4 and Xbox One were beneath the 100k mark, and 3DS was only just under it. http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?p=101073593&highlight=#post101073593 It was a horrible month across the board. -

Retro_Link said the first weeks, not the lifetime. First week has it behind aside from portable counterparts. I fail to see how giving factual statements makes things read as being snide. Your statement was worse in that you made a lie of ommission to try and further your point, as opposed to my allegedly being snide. I also "joined in", because I know that if I did complain, nothing would be done because I'm the "evil" person who disrupts things and clearly I'm the one who should be removed from a specific forum just because I speak positively about a company that we're all here to actually discuss. This is quite possibly the first time I may be acting the way you claim, also. For that, I apologise, but I dislike being singled out, and I strongly dislike people putting words in my mouth to skew my meaning in an attempt to demean me. -

How was I snidely criticising? I was stating a fact. Also, you're missing the support that developers state Nintendo has provided, as well. So now who is "oversimplifying" This is a big problem of you lot against me. You read things into what I say with intent that isn't there, and then claim I'm the one being disruptive when we have passive aggressive statements such as what Daft said, and crap like the Wii U General Discussion a few days ago, yet that just all slides and you take shots at me. If you have a problem with me, then just say it. -

That possibly has an effect, but I highly doubt that's the whole reason. Nintendo gives Unity to free to all developers that sign onto the Wii U unlike Sony & MS, and yet 4%. -

As is the 3DS, which is rather telling considering the disparity in sales between the two. It's like developers don't want money, seeing as games like Gunman Clive, Mutant Mudds, Birds Mania 3D etc. have sold better on the 3DS than on all other platforms combined, including iOS. Seriously, the 3DS is doing well worldwide (albeit not amazingly in the west, but still well), the eShop has really leniant self publishing details, and yet many developers are skipping it. It furthers the point I've been making the last year that even if Nintendo put out the best console ever that ticked all the boxes, developers would just pass still. There's also a potential skew. They asked individual developers, not companies. As such, if there was a big batch of say EA developers, then it could be skewed somewhat. If anything, 4% is too high :p Seriously though, it's not that far behind 360/PS3 and they're still showing strong support. It's not that much of a bad situation in all. It could and should be better, but alas. -

Were there not reports from E3 of Sony not actually setting price etc. until after Microsoft's conference? I seem to recall that somewhere, but I may be wrong. I'm not saying that Sony didn't do well, I'm saying that the circumstances severely boosted them. -

Problem is that Nintendo obviously planned things assuming that they'd have third party support. As such, for the first year and a half, perhaps two years of the Wii U, everything would have been plotted out with that assumption. As much as it pains us, they can't just crap out games to fill in the gap. Considering they were widely applauded for announcing standard features and that they're not going to screw the consumer, much of what they actually did was thanks to Microsoft's intent to screw people. If Microsoft hadn't gone that route early last year, I highly doubt the PS4 would have done as well. However, yeah you are right. I mean hell, PS4 has a Wii U style drought and the complaints are far less vocal. Sony is going to win this gen, no contest. -

Perhaps the Wii U is doing badly, but saying that the PS4 is the only place they can play games is just not true. -

That's a bit of an oversimplification of the scenario. In December the Wii U was doing fairly well. This month & last month, everything is doing badly as it usually does. Until the Wii U is doing 360 numbers, it's not gone and should not be counted out. -
You're absolutely right. The latency would cause it to be unbearable. :p
