That's not selling because of the name then, is it? Let's try break this down into smaller, easily digestible pieces. Buying because of the name - "That bag says Gucci! I must have it!" Buying because of a reputation and existing facts - "The PS4 is a more powerful console than the Xbone, and it has confirmed support from third parties whose games I enjoy. It also has several games already on it that I want. Saying you're buying because of the name is plain stupid. What are people doing, buying it then wearing it? I can tell you this sunshine, everyone I've added here plays their PS4 ridiculous amounts. Every time you say something like this, literally everyone here knows you to be someone with just a Nintendo console without a clue about anything else. It's the fact he's stating it that is the problem. People don't just say things for no reason. Here's how I read it - I genuinely think that Wii Sports has gone to his head. Hence why they went with the Gamepad, thinking that a gimmick (that one thing) would be the pivotal draw for the console. He's saying this either because he's convinced himself of it, or that's genuinely his angle when it comes to selling a console. That being, a game helps shift a console, rather than a console helping shift games.

The PS4 is selling because it's actually a pretty great console with some great games already out for it - but more importantly, an awesome lineup. It gets most games currently being made by non Nintendo companies (through fostering relationships with third parties, and building a console they could get behind). It's also more powerful (and was priced cheaper) than its closest competition. That's why it's selling. It's not selling because of the name. It's not a fashion accessory like a Gucci bag! The fact he would come out and say this suggests that he is a dreamer. The Wii U isn't going to be saved by a piece of software; you know it, I know it. The most telling thing here is that he places faith in such a possibility, rather than suggesting the many ways in which Nintendo can aim to please gamers with their next console.

That's a rather feeble fanboy retort, but what the hey. If you got my drift, you'd know the point I was making. Betting on a single game to turn your fortunes around is the same as spending a fortune on lottery tickets. It's a bit of a fool's errand, and really the opposite of putting graft into making a great console that is well supported. Something that you know can be achieved (listening to what gamers/devs want), as opposed to something you're gambling to try and achieve. It's an incredibly out of touch way of thinking. We're not even talking about great games being made here (as the Wii U has these), but revolutionary ones. You can't bank on those at all.

So tell me, which specific piece of software is accountable for the PS4's massive success?
-
I got it for Christmas, played it a fair few times with my brother and one of my friends. I think it's fair to say that this series has run its course for me. There's only so many times you can play the same repackaged game before it gets stale. It can be great in an even matched fight, but ultimately the new games aren't really bringing anything new to the table that I couldn't already have when playing melee. At least, that's how I feel. The lack of a proper main story game also definitely hurt it.

It really does go to show that he thinks there is a 'silver bullet' to get a system selling. That line of thinking flies in the face of working hard to incorporate features people want in your console, and putting effort into fostering relationships with third parties. It shows he just hasn't got a clue.
-
If that's the case then get making that new software then, as opposed to mostly rehashing the same games out the door. For such a phenomenon to take hold it has to be something new and exciting, and applicable to the modern gamer.

Ah shee. Well, let's hope it really is 2 hour maintenance. We've got 20 minutes leeway there.
-
Gotta work for the Gally though. Reminder: Hard Crota, 8:20 PM tonight @Shorty @MilaGi @Zell @Deathjam @DriftKaiser

Anyone who wants to experience the dips, go to great bay, outside the fisherman's house, don the Zora mask and slash away at the plants. Bet you'll trigger it. Also happened in the Great Bay Temple in the room just before you get the boss key (deku babas and where you must use ice arrows). And Termina field, and a cluster of other places.
-
Ok, I'll take Drift on if that's ok so we can hopefully get the raid done before too late (thinking about people wanting to go to bed and such!)

Sweet Hard Crota, 8:20 PM Tuesday Sheikah Shorty (hunter swordbearer) Milagi Zell [space] [space] @Deathjam are you in? Noticed you thanked me but did not sign up.

I know @Shorty said he was up for it, anyone else? Hard Crota, 8:20 PM Tuesday Sheikah Shorty (hunter swordbearer) [space] [space] [space] [space] @Zell @Deathjam @MilaGi @DriftKaiser @ReZourceman @Eddage (maybe given up) @Agent Gibbs @Map @Daft

I lived and breathed this game when it came out, and for quite a time after. Shame it kind of runs out of things to work for/achieve, which is often what keeps me playing long term.
-
Have to agree with this, the framerate drops pretty heavily on a number of occasions. To anyone else, trying cutting down the grass as a Zora outside the spider hut/fisherman's place in Great Bay. Framerate drops ahoy. I've now done the third dungeon and I'm doing a lot of the sidequests. Still loving this, still my second favourite game of all time. The effort they put into giving life to the NPCs is something they really should do again. Reliving the same 3 days is also one of the best game mechanics ever.
-
Me, @MilaGi and @Deathjam are doing Deathsinger x2 today at 2PM if anyone wants to join. Could do a hard raid if anyone wants, otherwise we're just gunning for potential exotics.
-
I'm up for heroics today (3 in fact). Extra useful to max out heavy ammo packs. Gonna have a meal in half an hour or so, free before and after that though. That ok with you and @MilaGi?
-
I reckon it's worth the upgrade, yeah.
-
Zell is up for it, should have quite a few doing it now @Eddage

General Gaming Sales/Charts Discussion

It's not a retail game, that's not what a retail game is. Stop interpreting everything so damn literally! Next you'll be arguing that cloud based gaming isn't real until servers are located in the sky. A retail game is primarily distributed in disc form (unlike this), through stores. It may also be available on the web store, but that's besides the point. They typically have larger studios, bigger budgets and development time behind them. These lines may be blurring, but sure as hell not for this game. People here are telling you that you're wrong, but you still won't accept it. How can you be so arrogant about it? Have some humility for feck's sake. Just because you can buy the code in a shop it does not mean it's a retail game. Flower and flOw got put on a disc in a compilation package because they were popular PSN titles. It doesn't mean they're retail games.
