  1. RE4 dumbed itself down if you died a few too many times. For example, in the Castle Water Room, when you lower the stairs there come 3 scythe monks down them. If you die like 4 or 5 times and hit retry, at some point no one will come down those stairs. If the game thinks you're having a hard time clearing a section, it will automatically lower the number of enemies on screen, making it easier. The way to go around this feature and always maintain the same difficulty is not to hit retry, but to load your last save file, that way you will always have max difficulty.
  2. Yeah, that's why I never bought 0. Well there's something you couldn't do on RE4. If you finished on Normal, you could only replay with the previously gathered inventory on Normal . For Professional, you had to start from scratch.
  3. People playing alone, what difficulty are you playing on and how difficult is that difficulty?
  4. REmake plays very well on the Gamecube with Type C controls, since R makes you walk ("click" it to run) and you steer with the control stick. I recomend this game to anyone, even today, it's great and the graphics, since they are pre-rendered, still look up to date, even in this day and age.
  5. That BAFTA thing is a bit ridiculous because, and already mentioned, SMG is from 2007. What release dates do the BAFTA consider...?
  6. I also bought this in November and still haven't played. I'm busy right now with Gears of War 2's campaign (which is FUCKING AWESOME, by the way ) and next will probably be Orange Box. I still have to finish Okami on Wii before starting Disaster, though. But I will play it, I didn't buy it for nothing. It's just on hold.
  7. Not confirmed officially, but it's a pretty reliable educated guess, I think.
  8. As for the unlockable content, hello?? Remember a little something called Mercenaries? Now in Co-Op, of course. Much like the Horde mode from Gears of War 2 (which itself is clearly inspired by RE4's Mercenaries).
  9. The cover system, though existing before, was improved on a lot, I believe. The active reload (awesome feature!) I'm pretty sure is an invention of theirs. Also the idea of a "meatflag" (and meatshields too, was that ever done before?) Anyway, it's not about anything new, both Gears games are masterpieces of videogames, IMFO. They nail great bellic story, great charismatic characters with great voices (clichéd yes, but awesome, it's on purpose, tongue in cheek), great fucking enemies, awesome battle situations, great guns, great settings, perfect online, perfect controls. It's very much inspired by films such as Predator, Aliens and Starship Troopers. Like FoliorumViridum said, no need to re-invent the wheel, just make a kickass fucking game, and that's what Gears of War is (are). Truth is, Gears of War is not just hype, it's really top quality gaming and I fully tip my hat to those guys. And btw, this started because of Shorty's comment of comparing yourself to Star Wars... So, if Gears did nothing new, what did Star Wars do new? Lucas copied everything from obscure sci-fi pulp novels of the 20's and 30's (including the lightsabre and the death star and a villain with a mask to aid breathing and the Force, etc). Even the Star Wars soundtrack, he asked John Williams to compose something like The Planets Suite. Which Williams did, listen to the suite. So, what's the merit of Star Wars, I ask? PS - I am a Star Wars fan. Just pointing out the fact that it has zero originality and that that's not a valid way to diss Gears of War.
  10. The creators of Gears of War can compare themselves to whatever the fuck they want, as far as I'm concerned, they created one of the best series of the decade, if not the best.
  11. First up, use all the explosive barrels around wisely. No rush. Then, headshots with the sniper rifle. He dies, you get a key to advance.
  12. And all I'm saying is it shouldn't and doesn't matter. Let me put it this way: If one of the previous games had a black character that you controlled, would there be a problem? I'm not talking about you personally, you already said to you it's indifferent. But do you think there would be this fuss if you controlled a black cop against the zombies in RE1? There wouldn't, would there? So, what does that tell you? It tells me that it's ok to have black people as heroes, but not as villains. And that, my friend, is what's racist. Or "culturally insensitive", another "great" modern euphemism, like "administrative assistant" (aka "secretary"). All I can do is hope the game doesn't get banned due to these stupid bigotted opinions. Maybe I should buy it 1st day just in case... was planning on getting it a bit cheaper down the line.
  13. Nope, it just means I'm not racist and bigotted. My mind is clear enough to see that a black man can just as easily be infected with the T-virus (or whatever virus is it this time) as a white man and that there isn't any difference. If you see a difference, then it's in your own eyes. All Resident Evil games deal with human beings being infected with that virus. RE5 is no different.
  14. Nuff said.
  15. You guys don't back off an inch, do you? i think the game is great and will control great and I'd like for the 360 FPS's to control like this, but come on, don't look at the game through rose tinted glasses. The explosions look bad, fact. And RE4 had plenty of fire in some sections and could have fire anywhere just as long as you had an incendiary grenade on you to throw at the ganados. And it had plenty going on in many sections, like many sieges. And remember the helicopter assisted attack on the Island Fortress? Plenty going on in there.
  16. I've had my eye on this game ever since the first gameplay vids appeared at IGN and I was absolutely marvelled at the atmospheric soundtrack. I will pick this one up when it's at budget price or some promo on the net. Metroid feel, Se7en-like soundtrack, exploration, and visceral creepy insect combat, it's awesome
  17. I'm just not happy with the explosions and fire effects. RE4 had VERY realistic fire and explosions, and this should have at least equivalent effects, not worse. Game's great though, I've always been a supporter.
  18. Problem is none of the game pics posted shows water. Which is even sadder because you made the same mistake I did, and mistook this... ...for a pic of the game. But if you read Haden's post in full you find out that this is an N64 screenshot! But when I looked at it, I also thought it was a screenshot from the Wii game, because frankly, it looks just like the other pics.
  19. Alone, isolated, better, yes, there we can agree. But I think horror is a very specific word, you can't apply it just as tension, which has a broader sense. You are alone and isolated in Metroid games and they're not horror either. Tense (in some parts) and atmospheric, yes.
  20. We're going a bit in circles here...
  21. Which is exactly what I've been saying this whole time, thank you.
  22. It depends on what you're scared about, though. If you're scared to lose your job, does it count as horror? If you're scared of getting caught in Metal Gear Solid or Splinter Cell, does that make them horror games? It's not about opinion, I'm making a clear case here.
  23. No, it doesn't. You're talking about tension, thrills, not horror. The scene in RE4 where you control Ashley is scary as shit. It is tense because you're suddenly controlling a little girl after hours of controlling a heavily armed cop. But it's horror because you're being chased relentlessly by ghost knights in the dark! You're running in a tight corridor hearing those approacing heavy footsteps, coming at you faster and faster, louder and louder. That's horror! And it would be just the same if you were controlling Leon in stead of Ashley, because it's a horror setting. Of course. Horror doesn't exist without tension. But tension exists without horror. That's my whole point. They're not the same, because one can exist without the other. Tension is a part of horror, but horror is not necessarily a part of tension. So, decreasing Sheva's offensive capabilities would indeed up the tension, but not the horror.
  24. Yes, but do not mistake tension with horror, they're not the same. Any stealth game is filled with tense moments where you're about to be discovered. It's not horror. Original RE games you had no one to protect. They were horror.
