Just another note it's now become obvious why we've held back, the stores are being allocated stock based one their pre-orders so they have held back as long as they felt they could before launch giving each store the chance to get as many as possible. Thats why the allocations seem uneven in some stores compared to others...
darthbane2k Posted November 24, 2006 Author Posted November 24, 2006 Slightly discouraging news about the Oxford St HMV midnight launch. HMV staff say that the planned official event is now in question, as police have advised against it saying that they are concened about the security of sending hundreds of people into the streets of london after midnight with expensive hardware and no tubes running. HMV have yet to make a final decision on the matter.
Mr_Aonuma Posted November 24, 2006 Posted November 24, 2006 oops im 13th on the list. they have 30 preorders now. today they told me they would prob get 20 Wii units. so i hope that makes my chances greater... dose it?

You have a 700% chance of getting a Wii launch unit from your store under this. For more information consult your local maths teacher. Safety in numbers.
Nintendork Posted November 24, 2006 Posted November 24, 2006 Yup, if they're getting 20 units, and you're 13. It's a 700% chance of you getting a unit. Supposing the first two statements are true.

I wouldnt take a chance getting on the night bus with your wii.
Nintendork Posted November 24, 2006 Posted November 24, 2006 GAME HQ are advising against it. I would happily mug (as in not hurt them but steal their stuff) someone walking off with £700 worth of PS3 hardware. Who would stop me? Honestly.. For an event organised by Cake Media this is starting to sound rather poorly organised.. someone should fire them.
Mr_Aonuma Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 wow how lucky am i!!! my local HMV store was actualy only given 15 units..not 20 i was actualy correct the first time... im 14th on the list, not 13th. I asked about the policey of that whole first come first served thing, the guy said no thats not the case. He said my Wii is mine and they will hold it for me. ( hmm that didnt sound right... haha)
ultrajamie Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 all these 'am i aren't threads' .... YAWN. Nintendo are going to replenish all through the christmas period... and have hardly any of the manufacturing issues of sony or microsoft... regardless of what hmv do or don't do (double yawn) you will be able to walk into any non-specialist and get one... just go to currys, woolworths, argos... where ever. but please, for the love of god, stop moaning.
flameboy Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 Right just a few bits i picked up from work...if you ordered from HMV they will ring you either way, but prepare to be upset at missing out, the store I work in are 3rd best on games sales at the moment and we have taken 56 preorders last time i checked and we were expected to get about 50, but are getting just 25! but we are expected to get plenty in time for xmas, with shipments expected weekly ala USA.
Mr_Aonuma Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 i got alot of info wrong from my local store. they have 40 preorders but they only got 15 units. im just so so lucky that i was 14th... i mean thats just cuttin it so tight right there.
flameboy Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 yeah I think what happened is they thought their allocation was for launch day but I reckon it may be our allocation till xmas.
solitanze Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 Have this thread established any retailers worse than HMV in Britain?
Y.Cashflow Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 Im sick of these fools, absolutely sick of them.We are less than THREE WEEKS from the wiis launch and HMV oxford st (yes that BIG store) are STILL UNABLE to confirm 1) how many wiis they are getting and if those (like myself) who have preordered will get one at launch 2) whether they will have a midnight opening event Every other major retailer has let their pre order customers know where they stand, HMV however were quick to take the £30 deposit and cant be arsed to provide us with any more info since. You should have gone to GAME in oxford street thats where im going even though they are charging £20 deposite im not really angery about that

darthbane2k Posted November 28, 2006 Author Posted November 28, 2006 By the way, if any of you guys are headed to ANY central London midnight launch, but are concerned about taking the nightbus home, check here: http://www.westminster.gov.uk/transportandstreets/parking/masterpark/xmaspromo.cfm
Nintendork Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 Also there's a transport for london website which details the tube, buses and main lines out of London. Assuming me and my friend can be at the front of the line and out of the Oxford Street store at 00:10 we can catch a bus to Liverpool St. and be out of London with our Wiis. But that's under the assumption we can get in and out in 10 minutes.

Anyhow the last central line tube from oxford station is at 12.35am Night buses run right through - should not really be a problem on a Thursday. But depends really how long the event drags on for and how many people there are in line in front of you.
