Haden Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 I brought a freeview box wanting to watch Marx Brothers and Dot Cotten but all I get is some sick. WE CANT FIND ANY SIGNALS horrific crap. Is it ebcause im using a mobile ariel? It is a pile of ubbish it barely tracks a signal do I need a new ariel or to plug it into the main ariel tv? The latter isnt really an option :/
Shorty Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 Did you check to see if you can get Freeview in your area first? Not everywhere can recieve it. You may even need an aerial upgrade.
Platty Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 Did you go to the freeview website and put your postcode in to make sure you area can get freeview ? If you did and the answer is yes you can get freeview in your area... then yeah you might need a stonger aerial depending on if your house is like down in a dip of hill or lots of tree's around etc. I have freeview in one room which no one watches but it runs fine on a cheap £15 aerial from argos.
laura_inthesky Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 in order to get our freeview box working upstairs, we had to connect the tv to the main ariel which involved some handyman drilling some holes through walls, etc
Haden Posted August 3, 2006 Author Posted August 3, 2006 I can get it in my area. But the ariel I use is ltierally a pile of shit although I can get tv at uni but not here. I will go to an ariel shop I know and ask the nice man to help me. For the mo thanks to that legendthat is Fierce Link I ahve got it working in the main room. The thing is my mum wont thank me she will look at these new channels as some invasion from outsiders onto our pure 5 channel tv. I mean our tv is so old I couldnt plug the scart socket into the tv it doesnt have a socket its older than me!
Mr_Odwin Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 It'll be much better when hooked up to the house aerial but even then it may not be much cop and you may have to upgrade your house aerial. It all depends on the signal strength in your area. (I had to climb on my roof and point the aerial in a new direction.) If you get an aerial that is okay but not great, you can do what I did and buy a cheap signal booster from Argos - it made a world of difference.
mariosmentor Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 it also depends on the box, i've ran through about 6 freeview boxes since they came out as itv digital or something. And its not necessarily te cheapest, just some of them are poor at recieving signals, some won't display channels unless they get a certain amount of signal strength which may be your case using a mobile ariel which is fine really because if it did get the signals it would probably be too poor to watch so i would suggest getting a booster or somesuch.
Ramar Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 You can buy portable booster aerials for freeview. But my experience with one was it was naff, and using the main aerial worked a charm.
Guest Stefkov Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 i can only get a select few channels when i search for channels on my tv, i think my ariel is crap, but unless i can find a cheap alternative, the nill have to stick with the 8 or so tv channels and the 10 radio stations.
Haden Posted August 3, 2006 Author Posted August 3, 2006 Yeh I think that was the problem. Also smelt preeety bad to.
Haver Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 We're in an area with weak coverage so we can't use the PVR on Sky Three or any of the BBCs. We have to use video cassettes
Charlie Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 I can't get Freeview until.... 2010! A village 15 mins away from me can get it though. It's so unfair!
david.dakota Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 despite many, many indoor mobile aeriels stating they're Freeview compatible, they're not - you might be lucky and find a signal if your sitting right underneath the transmitter... Try it on your main aerial. It should pick up the main multiplexes at the very least
