Ninty 182 Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 if you have an '.avi' file (movie) how can you get it to play on windows media player or Quicktime movie player. All that happens for me is that I get the sound and no picture. Is there something I can change or download to allow me to watch these files?
Charlie Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 Download VLC player and that'll play all video formats
Mr_Odwin Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 To play it in wmp you'll need the video codec. Find out which one you need then google it. Mediainfo can tell you which codec it is.
Ninty 182 Posted May 16, 2006 Author Posted May 16, 2006 Thanks for your help. I wasn't sure how to find out which codec I needed so I downloaded the VLC player and it works fine so thanks.
AshMat Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 Get VLC, it plays anything, plays encrypted files or whatever they are..#] EDIT: just noticed you've already done this
Guest Stefkov Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 i was gonna reccomend K-lite codec pack. it was recomended by a frind to play FF:AC, and it worked. but youve got VLC.
mario_jr Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 I use Matroska Pack codec, basicly the only codec I've ever had to DL.
Shorty Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 My favourite program for finding out which codec you need is Gspot. My favourite program for playing a file 90% completely regardless of its filetype is VLC. I use Matroska Pack codec, basicly the only codec I've ever had to DL. I don't think Matroska Pack has a codec, it's just a set of files for playing mkv containers. The pack just contains the ffdshow decoder filter and so enables most regular methods of playback.
