DiemetriX Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 I'm currently borowing my friends 1666£ PC But thers a problem with it. It Frezzes and/or reboots when playing games. And that is a big problem. Dosen't matter how much Graphics power the game needs. Even Flyff makes it reboot. MMORPG games make it crash quicker than Non online games like FEAR. I have installed the newest Nvidia drivers. And i don't think it's overheating. I think it's Windows XP Media Center fault. Any help? I think these are the specs. Nvidea 6800 pro graphics card 4GB ram MSI KT8 Diamond main board AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ 2.2GHz Socket 939 2MB
The fish Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 It could be a problem with Security software(maybe it attempts to block it loads of times if it attempts to access the interenet, and overloads the ram) Have you got directX 9c? Have you got LOADS of programs open at the same time, both core programs, and stuff like msn, skype, ts, ventrilo, xfire, etc. Cant really help you more than that, I'm better when im hands on.
Jon Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 This could be a number of things, the most ovbious would be that it is overheating, get the cpu temps and report back.
DiemetriX Posted February 16, 2006 Author Posted February 16, 2006 how do i check the temrature while playing?
Raining_again Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 Any blue screens? is the psu faulty or low in wattage? Thats a lot of power you'd need for all the graphics/ram etc! My old 'puter died out all the time...turns out it was only 300w psu....doh! And yeah good idea to check the temperature aswell, as Jonst said.
Jon Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 Yea, do what Raining again says also, poor PSU's are a big cause of unstable systems.
DiemetriX Posted February 16, 2006 Author Posted February 16, 2006 It uses a Cheap PSU with 650w But how do i check the Temptrature while plaing a game? are there any programs that logs the temprature? No blue screens.
Raining_again Posted February 18, 2006 Posted February 18, 2006 It may be overheating just cus its a powerful system! Try leaving the case open and doing what you normally do. If it works you can be pretty sure its overheating sumwhere.
The fish Posted February 18, 2006 Posted February 18, 2006 Try not using your PC in an oven. (jokes ) Buy, or get your freind to buy as it is his PC, another fan(it has got one, hasnt it?) or two, and if it keeps doing it get a heat sink. If it doesnt work after that, buy a freezer and put it in that when u use it :awesome:
Sanchez Posted February 18, 2006 Posted February 18, 2006 Sounds like faulty RAM to me, Download and run memtest 86+.
DiemetriX Posted February 18, 2006 Author Posted February 18, 2006 I think we found the problem. The CPU fan isn't getting the Power it needs.
Charlie Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 I think we found the problem. The CPU fan isn't getting the Power it needs. Yeah, you often get that problem with cheap PSU's. Let us know wha thappens with a new power supply...
