Can someone explain to me the FFVII remakes?

I feel like either it's been 5 years since they announced it or they keep doing new versions.

It's essentially a time travel sequel where they take the main story, split it into three games and alter it due to the time travel shenanigans. Remake is part one, and this version is that plus a DLC.

So they have been remaking the game for years then and still not finished? Or is Switch 2 just getting the first part and it's been finished elsewhere?

Part 1 (Remake) and part 2 (Rebirth) are already out. Part 3 is being worked on now.

So the remake of their game is in three parts (and also not quite a remake) and the first part of the three part remake is called remake.

Squenix shouldn't be allowed to name things.

But thanks!

I think it makes more sense when you play the story.

Granted, I haven't played Rebirth yet, but you are right. "Remake" is quite the clever name.

See also, Bravely Default. Looks like nonsense word salad that Square Enix are usually very guilty (What the actual hell does Birth By Sleep even mean!?) of, but it makes so much more sense when you see the central mechanic.
