spirited away Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 i really getting into manga based films like spirited away, princess mononoke and im sure alot of other people are so if anyone can recommend any films that would be great
Supergrunch Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 If you mean anime, then my holy trinity is cowboy bebop, mai hime and samurai champloo (yes I know that two of them are Watanabe). Actually, they're TV series' rather than films (although there is a cowboy bebop film). Go for anything by Miyazaki (which I can see you've already investigated) or Ghost in the Shell. Also, are you into manga?
spirited away Posted January 11, 2006 Author Posted January 11, 2006 i have drawn some manga ill upload one of my pictures later im trying to find somewhere to import howl's moving castle, if u know anywhere that would be great thanks for the help btw ill look into them
KKOB Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 definatly Ghost in the shell, ghost in the shell 2, GITS:SAC, and anything by Studio Ghibli (howls moving castle, Nausicaa, the cat returns, kiki's delivery service etc)
spirited away Posted January 11, 2006 Author Posted January 11, 2006 ok cheers ghost in the shell intriques me
Guest Jordan Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 GiTS 2 is really really bad compared to the first. Seriously, don't go near it.
Colin Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 GiTS 2 is really really bad compared to the first. Seriously, don't go near it. Yeah I agree, it's terrible. But if you want to be wowed by CGI then it's definitely worth watching.
KKOB Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 nah! GITS2 is a stunning film to look at-seamless intergration of CG and traditional animation a great follow up story if you can follow it and the stunning realisation about the 'dolls' made me cry!!! its a film thats more abstract than the first but is still solid if a lil mind bending! anywho DEFINATLY BUY Ghost In The Shell then decided wether or not tosee GITS 2 based on your liking of the first
spirited away Posted January 11, 2006 Author Posted January 11, 2006 ok ill check HMV last time I was there they had a whole section dedicated to manga films, they probably have it.
dabookerman Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 hellsing is an awesome anime, and versus if you want some excellent japanese action. ichi the killer if your into that stuff
spirited away Posted January 11, 2006 Author Posted January 11, 2006 just searched it on amazon , noticed alot of hellsing books as well... princess mononoke 42 pounds! y is it so much on amazon! im willing to spend £40-£50 on some manga/anime films i like the look of nausicaa, its not too expensive can anyone tell me more about it before i order it?
Ashley Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 I got Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex for christmas and quite like it. Although word of warning; do not watch it early in the morning or late at night as its quite complex and involved.
spirited away Posted January 11, 2006 Author Posted January 11, 2006 ok ill keep that in mind thanks - is princess mononoke £42 because its hard to get , spirited away is only £8.00 , seems a great leap...
Shino Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 Listen to Supergrunch and dabookerman, Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo and Hellsing are some of the best you'll ever see. I can add Berserk and Golden Boy, but above all those is Naruto, you should really watch it.
dabookerman Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 indeed, ill say it before guy does. but evangelion is one to definatly watch. ive seen many clips, and the animation is really cool. Akira is perhaps the snow white for disney. as it was incredibly expensive to make at the time, and it was completely hand animated. (right?) hellsing is 13 episodes, and the whole series can be bought on dvd pretty cheap. they are making a new series that is more true to the manga this year, one to watch.
Supergrunch Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 By the way, don't bother importing Howl's moving castle- I think it's out in the UK next month.
Dan_Dare Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 i think you're right about akira. its all hand drawn. it also happens to be one of the best movies I've ever seen in my life. watch it. You Gotta see Princess Mononoke too. more watchable than Spirited Away IMO. great cast of voice talent too. really helps.
Supergrunch Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 You know Sony were going to make a live action Akira a while back, but backed out when they realised it would cost around $300 million to do it well. In my opinion, the Akira manga easily outstrips the anime.
Domo Kun Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 Did anyone see the Japanese film that was on BBC4 last night? It was called Kikujiro. I really liked it. I know nothing about Japanese films, but what I've seen I liked.
Destiny Blade Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 comedy/action -shaman king, naruto, one piece, bleach serious-hellsing, cowboy bebop, wolfs rain, neon genesis evagelion manga-bleach, one piece, .hack, saiyuki

KKOB Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 Nausicaa- its about a princess from the valley of the winds who has to save her people from being used in an attempt to weild 'the warrior' against an overgowing poisenous forest thats is slowly killing all the humans on earth-very environmental and anti-war and a classic!!! studio Ghiblis first and its based on Hayao Miyazaki's own best selling mange-or so it tells me on the back of the box hehe i got it with The Cat Returns of HMV. com for £20 ish i think! good luck!
Dark Wolf Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 Yeah, Nausicaa is amazing. I love the manga too.
