nintendofan16 Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 What do you prefer? Tombraider or Uncharted? And why? I am so curious about it!
Cube Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 One is a brilliant Metroidvania game with set-pieces and pointless multiplayer, the other is an amazingly fun, crazy action game filled with humour and impressive set-pieces with a brilliant multiplayer. I like both for very different reasons.
Happenstance Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 If Uncharted 3 had never happened then this would be a much harder question for me but that damn game just left such a bad taste for me that it sullied the entire franchise for me so while I really did love the new Tomb Raider its still kind of winning due to Uncharted's downfall.
Daft Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 The Tomb Raider reboot would have been anywhere near as good if it wasn't for Uncharted and Uncharted 2 is still a masterpiece...which TR isn't. I loved TR, but Uncharted no question. U3 wasn't great but what it lacked in single player it made up for in multiplayer.
Cookyman Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 it sullied the entire franchise for me That didn't Sully it - this Victor Goddamn Sullivan's it!

Why don't you like Uncharted 3 may I ask :P ? But I agree with you I prefer Tomb Raider
Happenstance Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Why don't you like Uncharted 3 may I ask :P ? But I agree with you I prefer Tomb Raider I had issues with its difficulty spikes mainly. I know there were a lot of other reasons but I dont remember them off hand, I'd have to go back through the Uncharted 3 thread to find them and I cant be bothered. Too tired from failing to fix my PS3 today.
flameboy Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 I have to go with Tomb Raider. Sure Uncharted played a huge part in it's inspiration but you can't hold that against it, much like Uncharted was ultimately inspired by the likes of Tomb Raider (and others) and that's not held against it. Tomb Raider gets points for drawing in a nice sense of horror and some splendid set pieces that weren't all about the action and how loud/how big the explosions could be. (I'm thinking specifically the climb up the radio tower.

I agree with you, I had a great feeling when I climbed up the radio tower.. the feeling to survive and the hope to escape from the Island, the game has a great setting and feeling. Uncharted is more like a hollywood movie just action, explosions etc.
Daft Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 I felt Drake actually had character and grew as the games progressed (Not to mention, Lara's supporting cast are absolutely forgettable). Lara shits herself when she has to kill for the first time and then settles into a stone-cold groove akin to Patrick Bateman for the rest of her adventure. I also felt that with the number of times, and sheer ferocity, that Lara gets injured and smacked about in Tomb Raider, it just became a bit slapstick (hell, it was verging on torture porn). Like I said, I loved Tomb Raider, but I'm pretty sure the fact that it was a reboot of a much loved franchise made people much more forgiving/less critical. If Uncharted is like a great Indiana Jones film, then Tomb Raider is pretty much an 'I Spit On Your Grave' genre mash-up. And then there are a whole myriad of little touches that truly make Uncharted great. Hell, the narrative structure of Uncharted 2 already makes it a vastly more interesting game than Tomb Raider. Yeah, the drive in Tomb Raider was to survive but it's a videogame - I'm going to complete it. Uncharted embraces that, you're going to save the day and get the girl (kind of, not really), but howthefuckdidIendupinatraincrashinthemiddleofablizzard?! Yeah, Uncharted, unquestionably.
Tales Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 Having played Uncharted 2 and 3 and Tomb Raider in the past four weeks, I'd say Tomb Raider is the best. That's really it, I'm not writing a review :p Tomb Raider entertained me more than Uncharted 2 and vastly more than U3.
