Xenoblade Chronicles X Has An Auto-Run Feature, But Director Says To Use It Sparingly

Xenoblade Chronicles X has a number of features that make it easier and more convenient to explore its large world. One of these is an auto-run feature, although the developers don’t necessarily want you to lean on it too heavily.

“The Hopper Camera and Navigation Ball seem quite popular,” the game’s director, Koh Kojima, tweeted today. “To tell the truth, there’s also an auto-run feature for moving in a straight line, and there’s the fast travel, too, of course.”

“However,” he continued, “as the developer, we feel conflicted because*we’d like users to refrain from using them too much and take their time traversing and enjoying the landscape and enemy placement.”

“It’s quite the conundrum,” Kojima concluded.

Does the 3DS port add anything, though? There's one omission that smarts a little, with the Japanese voice track that accompanied the Wii version entirely absent. In its place is the fully localised, fully voiced English dialogue, complete with the slightly amateurish, totally charming voice work that Nintendo has lent its RPGs in recent history. It's the sole compromise that seems to have been made with this port.

NOW it's Reyn Time baby! ;)

New Xenoblade Chronicles X trailer

Xenoblade Chronicles X’s Planet Mira might have different creatures and landscapes compared to Earth, but their weather and climate is actually pretty similar to ours. The official website updates us with the latest details on the upcoming Wii U title.

The above video shares a look at all the different times of day and night you’ll see in the lands of Planet Mira, along with some of its atmospheric differences. The weather ranges from fair, cloudy, rainy, thunderstorms, to even auroras and rainbows. Some regions have their own characteristics with heat waves and sandstorms.

On Twitter, director Koh Kojima writes, “The idea of having a different monsters appear in the fields at day and night was already a feature in Xenoblade Chronicles. In Xenoblade Chronicles X, we have also made it so that weather affects the battles.”

“It isn’t just a visual effect,” Kojima clarified, “but is fully featured in battle tactics. Tuning the weather change cycle was fairly hard work, though…”

By visiting a BLADE camp, you’ll get to check a Rest Spot, which is used to change the time of the day by resting.

New characters and screenshots also available here:

Doug:

img_chara1102_r.jpg

Doug is a member of the private military organization BLADE. He excels at all military skills, but is the most effective when it comes to piloting Dolls. Contrary to his stern looks, he’s kind of easy to make fun of, and he often gets teased by Lyn whenever he messes up during Doll tests.

img_chara11-01.jpg

Back on Earth, he served under Elma in the Doll Squad, a government spec-ops vehicular instructor corps. He has been friends with Lao since their days in the United States Army.

Lao:

Lao is one of the team leaders of the private military organization, BLADE. His combat ability and sense of judgment is said to have been well-noticed by Elma.

Contrary to his looks, speech, and overall cool image, he also has a bit of a sensitive side, but he’s a passionate guy deep down to his heart. Lao has been friends with Doug since their days in the United States Army.

Xenoblade Chronicles X - Awakening

New song from the game. Proof that Hiroyuki Sawano can mix things up and we've nothing to worry about. He's composing all the music for the game.

That's a beautiful track and does give me hope that Sawano isn't all plodding chord sequences, unison choral samples and slamming drum loops. His quieter moments are his best by far! More of this please and less of the hideous, genero "EPIC" muzak.

RUMOR - Xenoblade Chronicles X planned to release in June

D9gMuTL.png

According to Amazon Italy, Xenoblade Chronicles X is scheduled to release on June 26th. This is not confirmation by any means, but it should not be too long before we hear an official release date from Nintendo.

I'd be very surprised if the rumour is true but a few sites are reporting it and well you never know.

Are they all reporting it from the same source though?

Not that I'm complaining. Admittedly I'd probably find this better as a later summer release to play over autumn/winter as I'm hoping to spend a lot more of summer socialising/generally being outside, so I wouldn't particularly want to get stuck into something that could be as huge as this, but I also don't think I'll be able to wait either, so who knows!

I feel the exact same, I don't think I could justify closing the blinds during the summer for that many hours of game time! Amazon is surely a pretty reputable source, however?

Please let that late June release date be true, that would be literally perfect for me as I have time off work meaning plenty of time to play hopefully. : peace:

Also it leaves plenty of time between then and now to clear some of my RPG backlog. :heh:

Don't forget the Battle presentation is starting in about 20 minutes time. Director Koh Kojima gave a brief update via Twitter yesterday about how it will be presented.

"Looking forward to tomorrow’s Battle Presentation! We’re actually animating Elma, Lyn, and Tatsu – who will be the presenters – specially and specifically for the video. We thought about this a lot, without meaning to; changing their positions around and so on."

http://xenobladex.jp/news/specialmovie/index.html

Hype levels increasing. The best bit so far in the video is the armour. Some of the creature designs are brilliant too. Will need a translation as I haven't a clue what's going on. That ending was awesome.

Taken from Nintendoeverything's blog.

– Last time, we introduced Planet Mira. This time, we’ll explain the battle system. Tatsu can’t battle, so has to stay at home.

– You’d be in trouble without Tatsu. Need info? Ask him. You won’t get any info without him. He’ll keep things going smoothly.

– Now introducing beasts near NLA (New Los Angeles). Switch between sword and gun for simple attacks, activated by auto attack.

– More advanced techniques are called arts. They’re categorized into fighting, shooting, support, and weakening arts.

– Be careful when using arts: you have to wait a certain amount of time before you’re allowed to recast the same art.

– It’s important to balance usage of auto attack and arts. Soul Voice lets you communicate with your party to use specified arts.

– Soul Voice settings let you plan out strategies in advance of battle. The characters will use the ones you select

– Combos increase damage. Learn arts to generate combos. Doing a combo will let you deal 1.5x damage. Hit from behind.

– Shooting from above or below will increase your accuracy. You can target parts of an enemy to break defenses piece by piece.

– Double recast, waiting for the recast meter to refill a second time after becoming available again, will boost arts strength.

– You can bring your fallen party members back by resuscitating them. You can use auto attack while waiting for double recast.

– Overclock Gear reduces recast waiting times. Using the same arts consecutively ups damage. Triple recast is stronger still.

– Enemy Icons display their level, other info. An eye indicates visual search. A bolt means seismic sensitivity (tread lightly).

– Enemies with a circle around the eye icon hunt in packs, and will call others when they see you.

– Equipment. Weapons come in melee and shooting varieties. Armor: helmets, body armor, left arm, right arm, and leg armor.

– As you use weapons and armor, the supplying company will develop new equipment products for you.

– Equipment slots allow you to customize your weapons and armor with stat-modifying items.

– Leveling up. Gain experience not just from battle, but by finding treasure, etc. Unlocked the arts in your class to open more.

– Choose which class and set of arts to unlock and change to.

– You can form teams of 4 characters. Here’s Ilina. Guin has youthful strength. Doug uses heavy equipment, and is kind.

– This is Lao. Many characters will surprise you with what they bring to battles.

– How are you supposed to fight this big robot? Use your battle skills to win. There’s another weapon at your disposal: dolls.

– Next presentation will be about Dolls

No release date for here yet. 29th April for Japan. There was a listing on Amazon Italy for June but that's just fanciful fiction. They've had a few bonker release dates like that. I think they also had Zelda Wii U down for June as well.

Translated Tweets from director Koh Kojima today.

Soul Voice, as thoroughly introduced during the Battle Presentation, will allow for lively battles, expanding on Xenoblade. It was hard work coming up with character-specific dialogue for the 20 avatar voices + the the set sub-characters, in addition to the audio recording of all of it which was also an effort. …Yes, the Soul Voice dialogue will vary depending on the personality of your avatar.

Xenoblade Chronicles X director talks a bit about the female alien shown during the Battle Presentation

xenoblade-chronicles-x-enemy.jpg

Towards the end of last week’s Xenoblade Chronicles X Battle Presentation, a new female alien was shown. Here’s what director Koh Kojima shared on Twitter about her today:

“You must be wondering who that squid-headed female alien at the end of the battle video was, huh? You can tell she’s an evil creature. She’s very popular with the development staff. We think she turned into a really cool character. The design was made by Yoko Tsukamoto by the way.”

We’ve talked about Tsukamoto on here previously. In Japan, Tsukamoto is a well-known fantasy illustrator.
