liger05
It's all a little pointless until they start including digital sales, that's pretty important for a handheld device. 80% of my Vita games are bought off the store. Thats anecdotal isnt it. The 3DS has digital downloads as well but the retail numbers are not like the Vita or Wii U.
Daft
I'm not saying it's going to make a massive difference but probably the majority of Vita games (you only have to look at the focus on indie support) are only released digitally so the comparison with the 3DS is a little moot. Having said that, I wouldn't buy digital on a Nintendo system until at least a very basic account system is set up.
Sheikah
Plus a lot of Vita games on the store have timed sales that are really good value, unlike the WiiU. Like Disgaea 3 for something like £13.
Rummy
It's a positive. Without the numbers it's hard to determine how many units were shifted but I suppose you could look at 685 percent increase of 1k (which would be generous). Exactly this, can't help be very dubious when big percentages are mentioned with no base figures - almost meaningless.
Wii
As said 685% increase? Of what? I'd say they got that figure from Nintendo as well but wouldn't be told the actual total. It sounds so much better than say for example that it sold 6,850 units. Couple this with the fact sales were falling to 0 level leading up to last week in anticipation of the price drop and the new bundle. Long gone are the almost weekly press release statements bragging of Wii and DS sales.

And I believe that last months UK sales were about 4000 copies or so, so my giess is that the last weeks sales should be 6'850 units.
Clownferret
What we need to accept is that the Wii U is going to be a niche console. Once we accept that, then we'll stop worrying about it outselling other things. It'll level out to acceptable sales, make Nintendo a profit and have fantastic games I couldn't care less if Wii U sells more than PS4 or XB1, but I am deeply concerned that if sales don't pick up fast, 3rd party support will cease completely. With regard to all the talk about Nintendo's finances, you all seem to be to forgetting about 3DS and to a lesser extent Wii. Yes Wii U sales are poor but overall Nintendo are shifting more hardware than Sony or Microsoft.

Wind Waker HD holds on at No 10 in the Combined Formats and 12 in the Individual Formats chart. Not bad Also Nintendo Land returns! Software sales for the 3DS here should be a lot better than they are. Well Mario Kart 7 is back in the charts, so it has already had an effect on that game. Mind you though, you probably wont see the real effects of that new influx of owners from Pokemon for a while as they'll all be ploughing through X&Y (and those games are pretty lengthy!) Wii
Zelda Wind Waker HD Looks To Have Sold 152K In North America, Boosts Wii U Sales 31% Although these sales figures are not yet confirmed, VGChartz are reporting that The Wind Waker HD has sold over 152,000 copies in North America in its first week, and that the game has boosted Wii U sales in the region to over 35,000, a jump of 31%. These figures are in stark contrast to those in Japan, where reports still had Wii U selling only 5,000 consoles after the release of Wind Waker HD. Interestingly, these large figures coming out of North America do not include eShop sales of the game, where Wind Waker HD is reportedly doing extremely well. The title’s success in North America can no doubt be attributed in large part to a huge marketing push by Nintendo that saw them release a Wii U Deluxe bundle that included the game, as well as a GameStop exclusive version that came packaged with a Ganondorf figurine. Nintendo is hoping that The Wind Waker HD will continue to drive console sales, because with the delay of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze until 2014, the struggling Wii U can expect to see very little first-party software support for the holidays. http://mynintendonews.com/2013/10/14/zelda-wind-waker-hd-looks-to-have-sold-152k-in-north-america-boosts-wii-u-sales-31/

Wii
And they're in. NPD: Wedbush Says Wii U Sold Around 55,000 Units In September Wedbush, the privately held financial services and investment firm, has said that Wii U sold around 55,000 units on the back of a price cut on the Deluxe set and the release of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD in the United States during September. The company also stated that Wii U sales are up 79 percent month-over-month, but things are still not great for Nintendo’s console. Sales of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 during September were expected to be 145,000 units and 175,000 units respectively. http://mynintendonews.com/2013/10/16/npd-wedbush-says-wii-u-sold-around-55000-units-in-september/ Edit: The NPD Group will release September sales numbers on Thursday, October 17. liger05
Vita did a lot better than I had expected! Honestly surprised at its performance! Here's hoping that it can at least hang onto a semi-decent baseline of at least 20k now... Yeah it did. Historically it seems all the PSP remodels got a nice bump even the PSP GO so the real test is where the sales are in the next 3-4 weeks. I don’t see where the Wii U goes from here. The new bundles will see a bump but not expecting anything major. The console just is not appealing to anyone and it has no 3rd party support in Japan at all. I know Mario is coming but it’s not enough. A baseline of 10k a week seems like the best you could hope for right now which is just crazy. They will ride it out but as each week passes the console really looks like a bad experiment.
Dcubed
The bundles will no doubt have an impact (not only are they crazy good value, they also come with two brand newly released games) and no doubt that anyone with half a brain cell would be waiting a couple more weeks until they come out before buying them right now... Then there's SM3DW and Taiko Wii U next month, plus the Xmas bump, so there SHOULD be a noticeable uptick in sales...

Dcubed
Nintendo's NPD PR is out... http://press.nintendo.com/articles.jsp?id=40757 And it's good news! Wii U increased by "over 200%" over August's sales. August saw the Wii U pull in 31k, so September's Wii U sales are around 93k-100k! That's a huge improvement! NINTENDO 3DS REPEATS AT NO. 1, WII U RESPONDS FOLLOWING PRICE CUT Oct. 17, 2013 Nintendo enters the critical holiday selling season with strong momentum, as Nintendo 3DS finished as the best-selling video game system in the U.S. for the fifth consecutive month and Wii U enjoyed new momentum following a price cut. On Oct. 15, Nintendo revealed that Pokémon X and Pokémon Y, which launched globally on Oct. 12, combined to sell more than 4 million units worldwide during its first two days on the market. A full breakdown of U.S. sales for the games, as well as the new Nintendo 2DS handheld, which launched on the same day, will be included in next month's NPD report. In addition to the latest Pokémon adventure, Nintendo 3DS fans have two exciting games on the horizon, both launching on Nov. 22: The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds and Mario Party: Island Tour. On Sept. 20, Nintendo reduced the price of the Wii U Deluxe Set by $50 to a suggested retail price of $299.99 and introduced a limited-edition bundle that features a download code for a digital copy of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD. Sales of Wii U hardware in September increased by more than 200 percent over sales in August, and that is with only 15 days of data being reported at the new price. Over the next few weeks and months, Wii U fans can look forward to playing Wii Party U (Oct. 25), Wii Fit U (Nintendo eShop, Nov. 1) Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games (Nov. 15) and Super Mario 3D World (Nov. 22). Granted, they're not great sales in of itself and it remains to be seen if they can keep the momentum going now, but guys! IT LIVES!!! GTA5 isn't going to push console sales at this point (why would it? Who does GTA 5 attact that GTA 4 and other similar games didn't?) The whole 4 week/5 week thing also doesn't really matter since they only tracked 15 days worth of sales following the price drop (and considering that the bundle/price drop was announced back in late August/early September, it's safe to say that console sales would've been virtually non-existent for the first half of September). The Wii U's sales still aren't great, but when you look at where they just came from, you can't deny that it's a victory and a significant one at that. If they can keep the momentum going now, then it may just have another chance at relevancy. They've got a good lineup for October, with some solid sellers, so I reckon that it's possible that we'll see another increase in sales; then they move into the Xmas season with some potentially big hitters including SM3DW, Wii Fit U and Wii Sports Club. Combined with the end of year multiplats and the weakening of the Xbone & PS4 lineups thanks to the delay of Watchdogs and Driveclub, they may just have a chance at relevancy after all
Sheikah
I very much doubt the sort of people disheartened by Watch Dogs/Drive Club delays would even care to glimpse in the Wii U's direction. I think the Wii U is still pretty toxic at the moment. Most people with sense don't want to develop for it.

PS4 outsold the 360 for the first time in 32 months and that was down to the GTA V PS3 bundle. The 3DS has no major releases in september but they did release that Pokemon 3DS. Looks like the 360 did 170k so the wii u is still a long way behind the 2nd biggest selling console. Edited October 17, 2013 by liger05
