oh god GBA games on the eshop would be awesome, wish they would hurry up and release more games, like 5 or 6 a week! i don't want this to turn into another wii shop and take forever to get any decent games out

I'm in a real Zelda mood at the moment (after playing Minish Cap) so would like to see a "3D Classics" version of Link to the Past, a brand new 2D Zelda or even just the "Oracle" games on Virtual Console. Majora's Mask is a gem too.

Other than that, there is so much that could be done with the eShop. Get GBA on there (I want to play Super Mario World)! Get SNES on there and unify our Wii/3DS accounts so I can play Super Metroid. Or just some brand new 2D games.

As ever, though, I had better not get my hopes up.

3D Classics you say? I think Zelda II and Metroid are the ones that need a remake the most. Just like Kid Icarus, frustrating games that could be much more enjoyable with a few little tweaks...Alttp is perfectly playable today, hence it needs no makeover...

Nothing would bring me greater joy than that right now but I really don't see it happening. The fact that Nintendo have NES games for sale on the 3DS VC already suggest they have no intention of unifying them to a point to allow cross platform play with one purchase. They'd probably have to go about refunding/compensating anyone who had bought the same game on both systems. I'm sure it's a minority but they will exist.

It doesn't help that it won't be the same file either. Each VC game comes with its own emulator designed for that game on that piece of hardware. If the software download was just a ROM dump and it used a universal emluator built into the hardware, then it might make more sense as each machine would be downloading the exact same file. But since they go to the trouble of developing the emulator (well, modifying an base version) and testing it, it makes things awkward unless the 3DS actually runs the Wii version of the emulator with some kind of patch but even then, they couldn't guarantee a perfect port.

I agree, but LttP has been suggested because it might work well in stereoscopic 3D, if you're into that (which I'm not particularly, but any reason to bring us LttP is alright by me). There are also two small ways I think it could possibly be optimised for the 3DS:

- Full 60fps without slowdown

I'm unaware of LttP's framerate but Zelda games are usually 30fps... here might be an opportunity to improve it. I'd also be surprised if the SNES original didn't have any slowdown... again, it might be possible to eliminate that. Overall, we could have something that runs much better than the 50hz PAL SNES cartridge.

- High-res widescreen

The SNES game was 4:3, the GBA version was approx 14:9, but low-res. A 3D Classics version could fit the 3DS's 16:9 screen, and be higher-res than the GBA port too.

Neither are massive, but both would welcome, and as I say, I agree with your suggestions of Metroid and Zelda II as well.

Good points. Frankly, I'm surprised they put console games on the 3DS at all. Not that I'm complaining, but I always envisioned the 3DS Virtual Console to specialise in the handhelds, and so it was a surprise for me to see the NES on there before the GBA (or even to see the NES at all).

Please delay Animal Crossing into 2013 for Japan... I really could do without buying another 3DS during my first semester D=

Well the first Metroid game has already had a remake in the form of Zero Mission. I don't think there is need to do a 3D classic version of it now to tighten it up like KI. That said, given ZM includes the original as an unlockable, I doubt it will ever appear as a GBA VC game unless the go back and remove it from the game. Also, does Nintendo have a policy on 3D Classic versions vs Virtual Console renditions? Is it either/or or can it be on both? With Metroid on the VC, (and Zelda 2 ready for a commercial release), will they bother with a 3D version? And what about other games? Nintendo already demoed a bunch of them running in 3D when the 3DS was first shown off at E3 and yet only the bog standard versions have been released so far for the most part.

As for ALTTP... well I don't think your ideas will work too well. For starters, you can't just up a sprite based games fps count. It's not like 3D were you just see more frames of animation as the polygons move between point A and B over time. Every frame has its own animation cell. Simply doubling it would effectively run the game at twice the speed. The only way around that and to actually see the difference would be to redo the sprite sheets for every animated object. And whilst you could extend the length each frame is shown for and to gain the benefit of reading inputs quicker, it could have a knock on effect with your collision detection and other things to the point that's it's likely to create more issues than it would solve and visually, there would be very little difference.

And as for the hi-res screen, the 3DSs 15:9 screen is effectively 400 x 240 and ALTTP runs at 256 * 224. So on the vertical axis at least, there is little real gain and upping the resolution for all the assets would only end up limiting the viewing field like how the GBA port had the screen trimmed to fit it's lower resolution. They could just increase the regular window but the game wouldn't beenfit from it like a normal side scrolling game would and most of the dungeons feature rooms designed to be only as big as the screen so they would be wasted. So yeah, I don't really think it would be worth the effort in either instance. Best case is some pretty border/background like in Kid Icarus and then throw the HUD info over that to clear up the main action.

I think they might also focus a bit on Project X Zone as well.

Had to go out for a meeting at work this morning. I bombed back to the office and have just made it back in time. Let the disappointment commence!

Apparently this link will have subtitles

EDIT: Bah no subtitles. Here's someone who is tweeting the translations.

Bravely Default looks quite the game. That attack in the form of a Train on Fire was awesome.

The music in Project X Zone is amazing, anyone else agree?

WOW I know this is a Japanese conference, but it really is all about Japanese market for the 3DS!

SO many games we'll never get over here.

Hope Bravely Default isn't one of them (and maybe Project X Zone... except I don't really know any of the characters!)

Ooooooo, Level-5's turn.

I like how they've gone with some of these new puzzles. The 3D character models also look nice, but the JP Box art looks a bit bland compared to the rest.
