Luigi's Mansion

Recommended Posts

I love this town game! As far as classic haunted house adventure games go, it doesn't get much better than this.

Putting a shivering, quaking Luigi in the starring role was a stroke of genius - it just wouldn't have been the same controlling Mario.

There were so many memorable moments:

- Luigi's 'Yikes' moment when a ghost appears.

- Luigi's breath in the cold air.

- Hearing Luigi humming along to the theme tune. Brilliant!

- Seeing Mario trapped in the painting, while Luigi can only look on from the mouth of a statue.

- The winding walk into the night sky to retrieve Mario's star.

- The elusive golden mice and the treasure rooms.

- 'Bursting' the big Boo on the horn of a unicorn statue.

- When the power goes out and you have to navigate the whole house with tons of ghosts returned to all the previously-cleared rooms.

- A key popping out of a toilet!

I must have played it through about 6 times; I was incentivised to play again to get more and more treasure / money.

hahaha love the reference in bold! Also yes to all your points agreed totallly...I especially love Luigi humming the tune. I've probably played through it about the same amount of times which is not something I do.

I got Luigi's Mansion about a year into having my Gamecube and I was blown away by the graphics and the atmosphere! Last summer I ended up getting it from eBay and I can't believe how well the graphics have aged, it easily looks as good as most Wii games.

I'd love a sequel, just to hear that awesome music again!

This game was absolutely amazing.

It's one of those few titles on Gamecube which I felt was breeming with "Nintendo magic", like it felt like an awesome, innovative piece of software you would only get from Nintendo (or to sound more like Reggie, you can only find this on Nintendo, you can only FEEL this on Nintendo).

The atmosphere of the game is one of a kind and absolutely perfect. The music, lighting, sound, etc, it was all spot on for me. I remember being absolutely amazed with all the little details around the mansion, the blowing of shower curtains, the flickering of candles, stuff like that. To be honest it impressed me far more than when I saw a "next gen" game on an HDTV a few years later.

I love how this was one of the few games on the system to really make use of the analogue shoulder buttons too, controlling the power of the vacuum.

I can understand how at the time, when the N64 has launched with Mario 64 and this was its direct successor, people expected a bit more from a flagship Nintendo launch game, but looking from that perspective is the only way I ever understand people's complaints with the game.

I've always wanted a sequel, though honestly perhaps one on the Wii would have cheapened the gameplay as I can't image the motion really helping much. Perhaps Cafe can deliver something though.

I started playing this again in the early hours of the morning (as you do playing ghost related games) and I really do love this game. The GameBoy Horror, E.Gadd, the weird Mario tune in his house, the torch light creating the shadows, interacting with everything scrounging for money and ofcourse Luigi whistling the tune and his expressions seeing a ghost.

Really happy there's finally a sequel.

I bought it off a friend a years ago for £10; he's borrowed it since :heh:

I never managed to do the Mirror Mansion; you take way too much damage.

After the Luigi's Mansion 2 comes out I'll possibly get a 3DS.

I, like many others were kind of hoping that Luigi's Mansion 2 would be on the Wii (or WiiU). But i guess the 3DS will do. And, thinking about it more it works. Depth 3D in each room, that would look excellent.

Yeah apparently that tight closed environment makes the 3D effect and the depth it brings look amazing.

This game does look great. Just means gonna have to buy a 3DS now...

  • 1 year later...

My good friend @LukeLee and I went on the national tour of CeX to try and find this a couple of weeks ago. We saw that Sheffield had it, but apparently it wasn't...even though they had it listed on their website. The Leeds store which had it the day before had gone out of stock...we travelled to around 10 CeX stores that week just randomly looking for games that we wanted to get, and we just couldn't find it. Then surprise! @LukeLee went and found a copy! Was really pleased! :D

Anyway i've been playing it recently and i'm kinda stuck. I just got the Water Element and I am kinda stuck as to where to go next. I've beaten the dog ghost and the fat ghost in the dining area...but I have no idea where to go next! The game has been out for 11 years, surely there must be someone who knows where to go next! :P

Update: I figured it out, no worries! :D
